Already I have been stuck behind a pack of spandex clad traffic interlopers and it's just finally breaking out of the 40s in the Chicago area.

why would we use the bike path off the street about 10 feet over there ---------> when we can completely demolish any hope of avoiding rush hour traffic?

Red light? Is that for ME?????

I'm sorry but I can't possibly ride on the street without my bff riding right next to me!

All blondes are dumb.

All blacks can play basketball.

All asians are good at math...and bad a driving.

All cyclists are jerks.

All politicians are ego maniacal self absorbed idiots (wait, this one is probably true)

I've been riding for over 20 years.  Some cyclists are idiots who think that they own the road.  And some drivers couldn't give a damn if they hit a cyclist (believe me, I was hit last week by a pickup truck going when I was riding at 25 mph and he didn't stop.  Luckily he knocked me into some grass and bushes and I was just sore the next day).

If there's a bike lane, use it.  If there's not, never ride more than two across and as close to the side of the road as possible.  If you want to be respected as a vehicle on the road, follow the rules of the road.

698 bicyclist deaths in 2007 accounted for two percent of all traffic fatalities with an additional 44,000 injured in traffic crashes.  The sad thing about the deaths is that most got a slap on the wrist at worst.

It's no fun being hit by a 4000 pound vehicle.

cyclists on the street make driving around/near/by them a giant pain in the @ss

Also, when they ride two across it's impossible to get around them which is LOADS of fun when you're on a two lane road with oncoming traffic. Nothing more I love than driving at cyclist speed so you can ride along side your buddy

Which is frowned upon in IL by the way so I hate them even more.

From IL guidelines

this is cool

think of all the people they can piss off...freakin awesome!

People expect motorists to follow the rules?

 LMAO! LOVESIT!!

What's so funny about that?

That she was asking about rules for motorists! Of course, there are NO rules! I live in L.A. ....I can prove it!   :)

I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina which apparently is the training locale of choice for various professional cyclists and cycling teams.  On regular width roads I can deal with them easily, but they seem to congregate on the roads that are too narrow, by law, for large trucks and to me bicycles should also be outlawed on very narrow mountain roads.  Cars simply can not avoid hitting the cyclists or going over a cliff when coming around a hairpin turn and finding two cyclists in their lane and a car in the opposite lane.

Update: Only one cyclist today. He was a good one.

I live in Seattle where 95% of the cyclists are a-holes. We are fortunate enough to have long, scenic walk and bike paths and apparently the cyclists think they have full reign over all of them.

They seem to be all entitled, Lance Armstrong wannabes and feel that they are superior than you whether you are in a car -OR- walking.

My man and I have almost been run over by cyclists who fail to call out they are behind you. Or if they DO call out it is a last second rage-filled "MOVE!" As if we have eyes in the back of our heads and are giving them like 10 ft of space on the trail.

Ok I am done. I hate those buggars and will now continue to enjoy reading this thread.

I saw a kid almost get hit by a police car the other day. I almost threw up on the spot. The kid was racing down a hill, riding no hands, I guess figuring he would have enough room to cut the corner but he didn't see the police car coming the other way. The kid skidded out of the way and the car slammed on its breaks. I was really surprised the officer didn't get out and give the kid a bit of a lecture. It was scary!

How about everyone rides bikes?! :O

In my experience (I had no idea riding on the sidewalk is illegal, I see it all the time here in RI) I prefer to ride on a bike path... but there are a lot of people on it (walking/running). It's called a BIKE path. The sidewalk should be for running/walking and the bike path for bikes/rollarblades.

I've not encountered an A-hole cyclist, all the ones I've seen on main roads, use hand signals to turn and stay near the sidewalk. They make me nervous though. :s

I dislike when people bring their dogs on bike paths and don't pick up their POOP and leave it on the road. D: More to dodge.

I haven't rode a bike since I was 19-20, but I'm sure it hasn't changed.
