Spring-Summer Slimdown Challenge:

I’ve fallen off the healthy lifestyle and weight loss bandwagon so to speak, and it’s high time I got back on. I thought I’d try my hand at organizing a challenge to help myself and hopefully others out.

Each week, everyone will post a weight loss goal, and if the goal is met then that person gets a point. Each week there will also be a challenge of some sort related to healthy lifestyle and eating.  Weekly challenge ideas include meeting daily deficit goal, exercise certain amount each week, drinking water, eating fruits & veggies, limiting sodium, including weights in exercise routine, keeping within cholesterol goals, meeting calcium requirements, etc.  Please let me know if you have other ideas.

The challenge will last 8 weeks (May 4 to  June 29). Each person will track their own points for the week and the post points earned and weights on the main thread and I will tally and post results.  If there are enough people, I’ll divide into teams as well.

Challenge will start May 4. Weigh ins should be posted by the end of the day Monday (so that means you can’t blow it on the weekend!). If you’re interested, just post here with your  goal weight.

Sure, I'm in. I'm 5 foot 2.5' and I weigh 63 kgs (138 lbs).

Given my ideal weight would be somewhere around 52-54 kgs and a healthy weight loss goal would be to lose 0.5 kgs in a week (slowly on a 1400 calorie/day plan), that means that if I start on May 4, I should lose about 4 kgs by June 29. I would like to lose more, but I'm not sure if it's healthy so I'll just go slowly from there.

But who knows where this might go?

What else?

Maybe a fruit & veggies in season challenge would be fun, or trying different varieties of fish... or taking up a new kind of workout for a week.

I like this idea.  I  just completed my weightlost challenge at work losing 10 lbs during that time. In the last 1.5 years I have dropped 50 lbs and have about 20 more.

This may be a good thing to do.....I will watch this thread and see how it plays out.  I need all the help I can get for this last 20!!

JB

I'm in! I am 5'4'' and currently 129 lbs, down from 137 lbs when I started on March 12th. I would like to be 117 lbs by June 30th.

I enjoy walking and jogging - I have set a goal of being able to run 5 km by June 30th. Yesterday, I did 4.4 km!

I hope some of the challenges proposed will consist of sharing tasty low-cal recipes!

Sarah

YESSSS, I need this! I've fallen off the wagon myself, and I need to lose about 15-20 pounds by June 23 -- I'm going overseas to Lebanon to see all of my family and friends... I want to look good!

Current weight: 162
Goal weight by 6/23: 145-ish

I really really hope I lose this weight! I've been procrastinating for so long, I've led myself to believe that I'll be stuck this way forever :(

I'm not going to wait until May 4th to start, I'm starting today because I have no more time to waste.

Hope we can all motivate each other and I'm determined to stay on the right path!!!

Glad to have you all. Glad everyone is motivated and has similar goals. Thanks for ideas of the challenges. I forgot to say that I'm 5'4" and 155 right now with goal weight of 143 by end of challenge. that's where I was when I got pregnant with my 3rd kiddo 2 1/2 years ago. Great job running sarah -- I'm going to a 5k next weekend and hoping to do a half marathon in June.

Hey, I'm in too!

Well... I need to lose 42 pounds , but for this eight weeks I'm looking to lose some 15 pounds...Make it safe!

See you in a week!

ok! me too! 5'8", 151 lbs (but i started at 163 at the beginning of march--so far, so good!). my goal is to be at 140 by the end of june. so, i'm looking at a little more than a pound a week.

apart from that pound, my goal for this week is to get to the gym (with weight training) 4 days, plus a good long walk/swim on the other days.

springtime is so motivating! lots of veggies starting to look more delicious, nice days to enjoy outside. good luck to all of us! : ) :)

Great challenge Smile I've joined a few others but this is great for starting in May. Plus I want to lose weight by June 29th because I'm visiting my Husband the next day in Canada.

I started at 208 at the beginning of this month. I am down to 193 now. I know it's drastic but I've only had about a 5000-6500 deficit each week. I'm eating very frequent small meals, exercising 1-2 hours a day 5-6 times a week, and trying to do everything this challenge names Laughing

So with a healthy weight loss of a little less than 2 lbs a week, I would like to be at 175-178 by the time the challenge is over (hope I calculated that right!)

I will join. this is just the motivation i need.

i am 144 and 5'6"
my goal for the end of this is like 135-136.
great idea for this challenge! =]

I know I posted my 'in' at the Weight Loss forum, but here's my stats

CW: 134 (down from HW of 165!!!)

GW: 125

Goals for this Challenge? Not sure yet. These last 10 are death :)

I would love to join, I know I can always use some motivation.  I'm not sure what I will weigh as of May 4th but my goal weight would be ten pounds less.  So maybe 212

First off, welcome to all new members! I think this is going to be fun and motivating!

I have a question for you all: do you think it is better to do 30 min of intense exercise every day or 1 hour 3-4 times a week?  These would not include warm-up or slower-paced activities such as walking.

I love this idea. I've already been counting calories for about a week and a half and have lost 2 or 3 pounds, so I'm already partly in gear. =)

I am just over 5 feet tall and I weigh about 136-138.  I would like to eventually get down to between 110-115, but by the end of this challenge I would like to hit 123.  I love challenges and mini goals in other areas of my life, so hopefully this will help me in this area!

Count me in.  CW: 172  GW: 135. I would love to lose 2.5 lbs a week, so that would put me at 150 by the end of the challenge.  Let the games begin!!

Hmm. I kinda don't like either option lol. I believe at LEAST 30 min, but not 7 days a week...maybe 5-6. I do about 45 min- an hr and a half 6 days a week, and when that day of rest comes around, I'm grateful for it! :D

I'm in!  I've been doing alright losing weight but need to work on a more balanced diet some days and have a bit more motivation so this sounds wonderful.

Some stats:

5'4"

19

Female

SW: 181

CW: 170

GW: 130 eventually

By the end of this challenge though I think i'd like to be around 155 - 160.

This sounds fabulous! I just started today so I'm super excited! I'm currently 170 and trying to get down to 128 eventually but that's a while away. I'll say 155 by the end of the challenge hopefully!

and to darcyskywolfe: we're starting at the same weight and have jsut about the same goal! I'm 21 so it appears we have a lot in common!

goodluck everyone!!

Awesome!

I'm 5'6", 160 lbs. I want to weigh 135 by September/October but for this challenge, I want to weigh 150.

cdanda, thanks for the idea. What a great incentive for all of us!

I'm so excited, we've got a good bunch of people. I think we'll have enough to divide everyone into teams so then there will be an extra competitive edge for all you who like the competition factor to motivate you as well.
