I do all my weight workouts at home and I don't have a squat rack. I had been getting my husband to help me out, but sometimes he isn't home. Does anyone know what I can do or buy in order to do squats at home now that I'm using more weight? I don't have a lot of room either.
I use kettlebells, you don't need much room to use them which is great!
I work out at home, and I don't have a squat rack or a spotter.
Therefore, I stick to front squats or goblet squats. It is easy to "dump" the wieght if you find yourself in trouble.
From what I have read, they can be just as beneficial as back squats, are more functional, and have less risk of injury because it is hard to do them without good form.
Not too sure what you mean, but at home I use two 10lb dumbbells and just do more repetitions = 2 or 3 sets of 40 squats. At the gym where they have heavy weights I use 2, 20-25lb dumb bells to do squats with and just do 2 sets of 12.

Thanks karozel. I guess I'll just stick to front squats then. I had started with body weight, but now that I'm up to 65-70 lbs I really can't do back squats alone.
We don't have a squat rack, but our bench has two vertical bars (no idea what they are called - probably just designed for bench press?). Although they probably aren't designed for it, we can put the hooks that the bar rests on in backwards, so that it doubles as a make-shift squat rack. If we didn't have it, my fiance could help me out with my squats, but there's no way I'd be able to help him get set up for his.
Hack Squats are another option if you don't have a rack.
awesome. thanks sully.
I wouldn't say front squats have less risk of injury than back squats. Strict form is equally important on back squats.
Thanks sully I'll have to give those a try next time.
If you find you can't get down low enough to grip the bar in that position, a couple 5lb plates under your heals works pretty well.
