Well, exactly one week ago I signed up on this site (and loving it by the way!). This morning when I weighed myself I was 357.4 - when I started last Tuesday I was 362 - so Im down 4.6 lbs!! (And crossing my fingers that my scale isnt playing some sort of cruel joke on me!)
I know the safe amount is 1-2 lbs a week - but trust me, Ive been eating 1800-2000 cals a day (usually closer to the 2000 mark). There was even a day I went over that. However, with that being said, I think a big part of it was the increased water (to be honest I rarely drank water before last week, it was all about the Mountain Dew) and the fact that I have so much lose. Ive heard that when youre heavier like I am you tend to lose more at first (not sure if this is true or not).
I already feel better though...I dont feel so sluggish after eating anymore. And Im learning to let myself make mistakes without beating myself up for it or just giving up after a bad day throws me off kilter. That was always my downfall before - "Well, I had a bad day of eating, so I might as well eat what I want and start again next week" Which of course turned into much longer.
Anyway...just wanted to share this with everyone because Im quite proud =)

woohoo!
Now, mind you, most of that probably is water. Don't worry about it. But still.. a great start! :D

You are right that 1-2 pounds per week is ideal, but starting off you can definitely lose 3 - 4 pounds per week in a healthy manner. Keep up the good work and welcome to the C-C community!
Well Done Kerry! Keep up the good work! The first few weeks you do tend to lose a couple more pounds and then it slows to a more gradual 1-2lbs a week, in my case normally 0.5-1lbs.
I agree that if you make a mistake it should be forgotten and start afresh the next day! :)

That's wonderful! Keep up the good work. I just (re)started last week myself, and I have also noticed a change in how I feel. I definitely feel like I have more energy, and I just feel "cleaner," if that makes any sense. It's great to get results so quickly - definitely on the scale, but more importantly in the way we feel.
You should definitely be proud of yourself!

Thanks all for the nice words!
Yes, I agree, a lot of it is prob water, but its still encouraging to see those numbers move on down. I know it was always be a big weight loss like this, but Im learning to be ok with .5 - 2 lbs a week. ANother one of my past downfalls - expecting to lose it fast and giving up when I didnt. But now Im trying to view it as long as its a loss, I dont care if its a 1/2 lb or 2 lbs, as long as the scale is moving inthe right direction =)

Kerry, you should be soooo proud of yourself! I sure am!! I've tried losing weight in the past and never stayed the course. But this last time I've gone about it a very different way.
You know the one thing I can tell that is different for me is that I quit thinking about being on a diet...I am changing my lifestyle and part of that is much more healthy eating choices. I'm researching how to eat, live, move in a healthy manner. I'm finding and trying much healthier recipes.
And I've lost 40lbs so far...just by doing these things. Then in March I found CC and it has helped me in so many ways. 9 of the pounds I've lost have happened since I found this sight. Now I've added more exersize and I can see the changes in my clothing. All these changes have allowed me to stay the course. If you ever need a friend to keep you encouraged, let me know. I will keep you in my prayers. God bless!

Given your size it's not unusual at all to lose that much weight early on. I've only been on this diet for this month and I've lost 3 pounds each of these 3 weeks. And I started out at 220.
So over time it'll slow down but for right now you're doing things right... counting the calories... drinking water... you should continue to see some nice changes like that over the coming weeks.
It's nice though to keep in mind this will indeed slow down... but enjoy it while it's happening fast.
Oh and get a tape measure and take some before pics so you can really shock yourself over the time of this diet.
If you mange 2 pounds a week on average (which at your size you could pull this off)... you could be 104 pounds lighter this time next year! Even at 1.5 pounds that's 78 pounds lighter by this time next year.
It's a long trail... but one with much reward for those that make the lifestyle change :)

YAY! Congratulations! That is great and you are going to do super! It is my second day.... so here we go...
Congrats on the loss! Every once in a while I'll surprise myself with a 3 or 4lb loss :) Those are great days!
Kerry07, that's what I love about this site! Seeing my weight log and food log every day helps me see the big picture, instead of giving up when I have a bad day! I absolutely love it!!
Good luck on your "journey." If you have a low-motivation day, I find the best cure is to come on here and read the forums. Usually, I can find someone who's struggling with the same thing and some suggestions on how to "kick" the problem.
:) Once again, GOOD LUCK!! We're rooting for you! :)

wow, that's awsome!! It will slow down but it's fun while it lasts. My husband always drove me nuts with, "it's just water weight" any time I lost a few pounds. He's impressed now that I've lost 17 pounds. I know some of what we lose at first might be water weight and I'm always happy to blame a slight gain on water retention, but when I see the scale go down it makes me happy!!
It will work for you. You can do it!!
