Recipe Ingredients for St. Patrick's Day Soda Bread
| 2 | cups all-purpose flour |
| 3/4 | teaspoon baking soda |
| 1/2 | teaspoon salt |
| 1 | tablespoon sugar |
| 6 | tablespoons vegetable shortening |
| 1 | cup raisins |
| 1 | tablespoon caraway seed |
| 3/4 | cup reduced fat buttermilk |
Recipe Directions for St. Patrick's Day Soda Bread
- Preheat oven to 375F.
- Mix together first 4 ingredients in a large bowl.
- Cut in shortening until consistency of small peas.
- Lightly stir in raisins and caraway seed.
- Add buttermilk and toss with fork until dry ingredients are moist.
- Knead 3 to 4 times.
- Form into a round, flat loaf.
- Brush with additional buttermilk and sprinkle with a little sugar.
- Cut a cross into the top, about 1/2 inch deep.
- Back for 45 to 50 mins in 375F oven.
- Cool on wire rack.
- Wrapped tightly, will keep at room temperature for 3 to 4 days.
