All of you are so wise to be determined to get rid of your extra weight, and keep it off, now! I have been losing and regaining weight for most of my adult life---with a high of 272 about 20 years ago, down to 209 almost 10 years ago, and all up and down in between.
For the first time in my life I have reached the point where I truly realize that only I can make the changes that will keep me from gaining weight and that I must focus on what I need and put aside compulsions to cook what others prefer when those items are harmful to me. After all, healthy food choices usually will not harm anyone and I must live accordingly.
S W 226 1st 10% loss: (226-22.6 =203.4. Let's make that 199 to get below the 200 mark!

Hey Sharyn!
My clothes, well other than the fact I am truely bloated this week thanks to Aunt Flo, and my weight jumping up and down from 206-209 my clothes fit well.
Its strange though, even at 186, where I was before I got pregant with the twins, I was in a size 16, at 220 I was in a 16/18, so its strange. I once squeezed into a 13/14 but it was not pretty....LOL..
cteene- WELCOME! This is not just for young, its for all, its for all of us that are doing this for good and really want to stay in contact and motivate each other!
Laina- I'm getting jelous :)
Those numbers are dropping fast and with fury! GOOD WORK!
to another week- Cheers! Hopefully I will have lost my water weight by fridays weigh in.
Also, I am going to be traveling this weekend all day friday and all day sunday, so wish me traveling food luck!!!!
Thanks ladies, my heart and pounds go out to you all1!!!
Laina - you are kickin' butt girl!
cteene - Welcome! You are an inspiration to us all that it is never too late to get on track. You should be very proud!
Morgan-I feel your pain - but it shall pass
Do you do any type of strength training? That is what really helps knock the inches off. When I am toned up, I can get into a 14 at 200 pounds - that is my next milestone.
I did ok over the weekend. The two slices of pizza yesterday had me bloated this morning, so I was up to 221.8 . I did intervals on the treadmill for 50 minutes this evening, so I'm feeling pretty good, but I still have a bloated feeling. I think I'll have to go back to just eating one slice of pizza when I have it.
Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!
Everything I ever did to lose weight worked! I just didn't KEEP ON KEEPING ON. Some of the advice I followed may have had a sound scientific backing, but the bottom line was that I always--for whatever reason--went back to eating more than I was burning up.
Now we have a better day...more reliable information, more available food choices, more targeted exercising devices, and more opportunities for interaction with others to support us. Now our job is to STAY on the WAY!
That way for me this week is 30 minutes daily with the exercise bike---lots of low fat, high fiber, fairly natural state, little processed foods---many peeps on the laptop for encouragement and inspirational insights from all of you---and then assessment time with Friday's weigh-in and the then following renewed commitments for another day of KEEP ON KEEPING ON! WINNERS FIND A WAY! (We won't even talk about losers!)
Well, I am very proud of everyone. I had such a great last week, but have not started very strong this week. The weekend I did ok..had the Badge game on Saturday and tailgated..but we park about a mile away from the stadium so it is a good walk. Plus we walked Lila in the morning about 2 miles. But Sunday...I kind of fell apart. I got so into the Packers killing the Bears that I got a little caught up in my drinks. We all know where that leads. I did not overeat, until yesterday when I was recovering. I fell apart. I ate a ton of pizza and just nibbled all day. I think I ate over 3000 calories easily. I did manage to make it to the gym, but only burned about 450 cals..not enough to make up my disaster of a day.
Today I am feeling a little better, but now I know TOM is on his way. So, I think it is going to be a rough week. I woke up a lot heavier than yesterday and it is really bothering me this morning. This is when I tend to fall off. But I brought healthy foods for the day, have chicken breasts out for dinner and have the gym clothes in the car. So, I can only try my best and hope for the best as well.
So, lets try and make it a better day!! Good luck this week to everyone! Kristi
To Laina, Sharyn, Kristi, and all you other pizza lovers, I know how you feel. Had been totally doubtful about tips for pizza a dieter could eat guilt free until one day when I could resist no longer watching my husband relish his feast from Pizza Hut AND WAS FEELING ESPECIALLY ADVENTURESOME, I gave it a try.
I grabbed some sort of thin sliced whole grain bread, (didn't have pita or tortilla as suggested), smeared on a layer of Ragu Pizza sauce (suggestions called for tomato sauce and a shaking of Italian seasonings), and a liberal topping of vegetables "of my choice" as the directions said.
My toppings turned out to be some bits of finely chopped sweet onion, a smattering of small pieces of tomato, a few tidbits of sliced zucchini, and some slivers of sweet pepper followed with the sprinkling of the Italian seasonings which I piled on the bread and toasted in the oven until the bread was crispy and the veggies were definitely showing signs of the heat.
Maybe I was starving, but it was delicious! The pizza smell and taste was there and I found myself hardly missing the pepperoni, the meats, and the melted cheeses of the fat laden pizzas I usually ate. Since then I have found sliced mushrooms are also a great topping choice. I especially like their change in texture and flavor the partial roasting brings.
Also when I eat pizza this way I feel more satisfied than when I eat regular pizza and I find myself continuing to eat on and on. Maybe it is the fat content or something that makes you want to eat more and more. Or maybe it is my mindset when I eat the "guilt free" version....power-of-suggestion, brain washed, or all such as that. What ever it is, I like it.
I, too, weigh just about every day...can't seem to just not to, but also like to keep in mind the once a week numbers with the daily ones just jiggling up and down.
Congratulations to all of you who are moving down the scale! Keep it up!
Hi Mammamoosh,
Thanks for starting this thread. I am a mom of 3 who is very stressed! Eating is my reward for getting thru the day, I know I have to find another way. Right now I have the motivation (again) and really would love to succeed this time. Dr is giving me one last chance to get the weight off and lower my cholesterol and blood pressure before putting me on medication. The time is now!

Hello ladies! Welcome clg5!!Congrats on putting your mind to your goals and "needs" for a healthy lifestyle. As you can see everyone here has the same ideas of what needs to be done. We all have had our rough patches...going up and down in weight, battling the infamous TOM and just the everyday stresses. I think I am still the only one here without children (YET), but it is such a great forum to come and see the progress and motivational tips everyone has to share.
Keep up the good work everyone. I think I am back on track from my rough weekend and Monday start. I went to the gym last night and worked hard..burned about 700 calories..according to the machine and came home and ate a healthy meal with the hubby. So, I feel pretty good about yesterday. I should have about a 500 cal deficit for the day. So, I am slowly getting back to it. Back to the gym tonight. I just wish I could get myself to do some strength/weights. Just not sure what to do. But we will see. I need a bit of a change.
Well, back to work! Good luck to everyone today!! Kristi
Hey Ladies
I was hoping to join in with your forum. I am a married 44 year old mother of two. I currently weigh 208.. I sooooo want to be under 200 (short term goal). I have been working out for about 2 years (starting weight 246 lbs).. Slow and steady..
I've been on CC for about a month now and it really helps. I was trying to stay under 1200 calories a day, Had no idea that I needed to eat more to lose more.. (doesn't make sense but it works) I've been looking for a group to join and love reading your posts.. I have a great workout buddy but think having a place like this to offer encouragement will help as well..
Janet
Welcome clg5 and Janet! We are happy to have you!
cteene - I 100% agree with you - we have to keep on keeping on. The problem that I have had in the past after losing weight is getting "comfortable"- letting bad habits slip back in and letting the good ones slip back out. I had to take inventory of my habits this past week. I usually leave something behind on my plate every-time I eat in order to stay "aware" of how much and how quickly I am eating. It's a trigger to make me stop and think about the food I am putting into my mouth. Well, I didn't do that with the Halloween candy and I think that's why I overindulged. I found myself getting "seconds" this past week, something that I had stopped doing months ago, and I realized I wasn't leaving a bit of food behind on my plate, so my awareness was absent. Another bad habit - emotional eating. Found myself doing a bit of that instead of implementing my action plans that I had been following to combat stress. So I had to review my action plans and recommit to them. I religiously keep a food diary, but I found myself in the last few weeks leaving things off - such as a bite of this or a bite of that. But let's face it "bites" are still calories and they will add up. So I had to get back on track with that. So I have decided that every 30 days, I will take assessment of my habits and adjust accordingly. P.S- thx for the tip on the pizza
Laina- good for you! I watch The Biggest Loser and it is inspiring to watch the ladies get below 200 pounds. We are rooting for you to get there by Christmas!
I've got the obsession with the scale too. I actually put my scale away for several weeks a few months ago, just so I could refocus. The problem we run into with weighing everyday is that we will sometimes allow it to "make" or "break" how our day goes. So I am constantly keeping a 30 day total of weight loss in the back of my mind because it is a better gauge of overall progress for me. This Saturday I will go in and get my measurements and weight at Curves for the past 30 day period. So even though my weight has wildly fluctuated in the past few weeks, my total loss within the last 30 days has actually been 5 pounds, which isn't bad.
Kristi- great job bouncing back after the weekend. Let's face it, Life happens and it causes us to stumble sometimes. But as with every other area in our lives, we take the Lickin' and keep on tickin'
(I'm from down south in case you hadn't noticed) So hang in there, it sounds like you are learning how to adjust to your obstacles.
I started using wrist weights with my workouts this week and can feel the difference. Since I don't lift weights and only do strength training, they added a little bit to the machine routines for me- hopefully I will start to see the difference in a few months. I did circuit training at Curves for 45 minutes last night and plan to get on the treadmill for intervals tonight for about 45 minutes or an hour.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!![]()
Hey Everyone, I am so excited to see we have gathered even more people in our little forum! For the first time, something I have started is actually taking off, kinda like all of the weight off our backsides!!!!!!!
Krisit- I am glad that you stayed on the wagon!!! WE CAN do it, remember!!!! I had a tough week too with AUNTIE keeping me bloated all week.
My Kids are still fighting ear infections- its almost been 1 month- but I can't complain too much, it is the first time they have been sick in a year and for pre-me's thats good.
All you other ladies- keep it up, all of your words are so encouraging and it makes me happy every time I get on the internet and see all these posts!
I am down to 204.8 this morning- and still have my period....so I am going to take that as a good sign- I biked for 1.5 hrs the other nite while I was watching NCIS and the Mentalist, it made the time FLY by!
I'll check in tomorrow and try to throughout the weekend, but I think I am leaving at 5 am, so I may forget.
Good luck ladies. keep it up!
And do you mind?....What part of the south are you from? My early years were in Georgia and North Carolina before I got married and we started moving all over so I can relate to you there. No, I couldn't tell from your posts you had roots in the south.....just sounded like a good old American to me.
Janet: You inspire me! You are doing what I want to do--losing weight and sticking with it through thick and thin--slow and steady--knowing you can succeed! You seem to be well on your way to developing a lifestyle that you can live with for a lifetime. I hope to do that too.
Clg5: Great you have joined us! I can see 3 kids could certainly add to the stress. Are yours teen agers or little ones? My only one is grown up and on her own but I still stress out over her. Every problem she has I still take as my own...and usually blow them more out of proportion than if they were.
Many people have good success with exercise and losing weight in controlling blood pressure. An acquaintance of mine through diet and exercise lost 104 pounds and got off all medications while a member of Weight Watchers.
If you need any specific guidelines about food choices, the DASH diet (dietary approach to control hypertension) might be a good one to look into. It can be found on the internet, is medically approved and was specifically developed to help control high blood pressure through diet. Another good thing is that the whole family could benefit from following it. (side benefit--no extra meals to prepare because someone is "on a diet").
Good luck and am looking forward to your progress!
Hello Ladies and thanks for the warm welcome.
I am not looking forward to tomorrow's weigh in. I am trying to stay away from the scale during the week because i get to caught up in the daily number fluctuations.. I work so hard and then to see the numbers go up or stay the same drives me crazy..
this week has been more of a challenge to me to get time to go to the gym (mom in town, son's last 2 fall baseball games-thank goodness). I usually go to the gym 3 nights a week after work to do strength training (similiar to curves) and my workout buddy and I started the couch to 5k about a month ago, so we jog/walk the other 3 days a wk which I never thought i would be able to do but now running 4 mins at a time. But not this week.. I live in North Florida and it is COLD.. for us.. not to you all that are up North, but 45degrees is cold here.. to cold to be jogging outside. We just joined a new gym on Tuesday that allows jogging on the treadmill (last one didn't) so i have only been once this week versus 3 like normal..
After reading all of the previous posts, I am sure it is not just me that finds it hard to find time for myself.. We always put everyone else first-- kids, husbands, jobs... I tell myself that is one hr a week.. they can do without me, but life gets in the way sometimes.. I so do not want to gain this weight back. I feel so much better and know when i lose the rest I will feel even better. 2 years ago the drs wanted to put rods in my back due to degenerative disc disease (3 previous herniated discs as well).. thats when i started to get serious about putting me first.. no one else is going to do it for us.. I want to be healthy the rest of my life-- not skinny - healthy.. and the only way to do that is to eat healthy and move..
ok, thanks for listening. just needed to get it off my chest.. back to work -- hope you all are having a fabulous day!
yaya
Morgan, I just chopped all my hair off too.. feel like a new woman..
Sorry Everyone, I didn't get to read the posts, I am out the door- traveling through the snow storm. If any of you pray, say a few for my oldest and I, and for my cousin, she is only 11 and decided to take half a bottle of pills, she is okay, but not out of the woods quite yet.
As for this week, emotional rollercoaster, PMS, Work, Retarded dad, we are not getting along too well, I am not sure if I should have had him come home as soon as I did....we just don't seem to get along or see anything eye to eye.
