Welcome back, all you posters! I hadn't jumped ship - just computer problems - Safari said it couldn't find the server. After a few days we finally called the computer expert, (our daughter who was out of town for the holidays and got back tonight), who said to unplug everything, wait 2 minutes, and then replug. It worked and we are now back in business.

11/28/08 Current weight: 225
Week's Loss: -0.5
Left to 1st 10% goal: 21.6

Ran into a problem a few days ago. Had been leaving off any added salt to all food in an effort to reduce my blood pressure and then on a shopping trip to a near-by town we ended up in a cafeteria. Not wanting to go overboard on the calories, I selected a vegetable plate...greens, corn, and beets along with two glasses of ice water and a salad/dessert of cantaloupe and honeydew melon. It was delicious, especially the greens and even the corn and beets tasted much better than those I had been fixing at home.

"It's the salt." I noticed, glad to find they had gone easy on any added oil, "and this melon is really good!" Imagine my dismay when I stepped on the scales the next morning and the number was up 3 pounds! It seems the salt that had made everything taste so good was holding on to plenty of water. Along with that and Thanksgiving food I've had a time keeping from showing a weight gain!

Good luck to all of you. Hope everyone is doing well!

Hey Ladies!! Long time no type! Last week was a little hectic as I was holding my first Thanksgiving at my house.  Weds night had my family over and then Thrusday all the inlaws.  So, I was a little crazed all week and really did not make time for myself.  I went to the gym Monday and Tuesday, but slacked the rest of the week. I took full advantage of it being a holiday.  But because I was running around so much I did not gain anything from last Monday. But I am still up from a couple weeks ago. This morning I was 228.2 :( But that is what I was last Monday.

So, back to the gym tonight and no more stuffing, mashed potatoes or pumkin pie in my near future :) I had a great 4 day weekend, but it is time to get serious again- or at least as serious as I can :)  I am still up for the "lose 10 by Christmas" if anyone else is in! So, I guess my goal for December 24th (X-mas Eve has lots of good food that I think it would be wise to do the weigh in on the 24th) is 218 even! Lets see how I do! This is a new week and I am ready for action!

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving and cannot wait to hear from everyone this week! Kristi

Hi all!  I am 23 years old (about to be 24 on the 26th of this month, yikes!) and married to a wonderful man.  We both recently graduated from college and he got his first "real" job in August.  Because of his new job, we have moved 9 hours away from all our friends and family.  I decided to get serious with my weight loss because I realized that we are not too many years away from wanting to start a family.  I want to be a healthy and happy mother, so I've got to put the work in now to get there.  I started using CC in earnest on Nov. 10th, and so far I've lost 9 lbs!! Yay!  I'd love to join your group so I have people to be excited with as I lose the weight!

Stats:

Height: 5'5.5"

Starting Weight: 255

Current Weight: 246

10%: 24.6

Long-term Goal: 160-ish

I did great over Thanksgiving, how did you guys do?

Just wondering what calorie level you guys eat?  I am so confused about this not eating below BMR stuff.  I don't know if I am eating enough or too little cals.  Also, how do you guys categorized yourself: sedentary, light activity etc?

I am really trying to lose 25lbs and i have been on a 800-900 calorie intake for about 2 weeks and I have lose about 4 lbs, I wanted to know how many calories I should be eating to lose to most weight? I use treadmill a few times a week.

31 yrs old

4'11 height

181 lbs

maybe this group is just what I need to keep me on track

@lsam31-

I have the same question.  I'm currently eating 1600/day, but I calculated my BMR on several sites and they all said I was in the 1900 range...that seems like a lot to me!  I categorize myself as light activity because I only sit still for 30 minute increments during my work day.  I log my exercise separately.

Hello Ladies!

Sorry I didn't check in yesterday, but I was having too much fun celebrating turning 36!!!! I've got to get back on the exercise schedule this week, so I am starting tonight.

lembas_lover, isam31- the best thing for you to do is keep track of your daily calorie intake and corresponding exercise for about a month. Maintain the same level so that you can see what your weight loss is. After that, if you are not satisfied with the amount of weight that you are losing, then you should adjust your calories down by 100   a day and exercise more to burn at least 100 or more calories a week. Continue to adjust every 4 weeks until you feel you are losing at a reasonable rate. Do not go under 1200 calories. As for the BMR, you will only lose a small amount of weight per week if you eat the range that they give you. Keep in mind that they want you to lose within a safe range, which could be as little as 1/2 pound a week. What I do is eat the amount of calories that I would eat at my goal weight and I exercise how I will when I reach my goal weight. on the BMR instead of putting in my current weight, I  put in my goal weight and it tells me how many calories I need to maintain that weight. I am training myself to "act as if" I am already at my goal weight. Sometimes the weight loss is fast and sometimes it is slow. You just have to expect some slow periods of weight loss.

tabatha30 - I don't think you are eating enough calories. You should consider upping your intake to at least 1200.

Have a great day everyone!!!

Hey Guys!!

I'm back, sorry I dissapeared. I was totally consumed with school, traveling, kids, the FLU and another round of ear infections for the twins.

I haven't gotten on the scale since just after thanksgiving, but I didn't gain anything

So my Last weight was 205

Loss of zero pounds for the week. I will post the original way on Friday, and hopefully the scale will be nice to me, i haven't been sticking to my "diet" lately.

I am more than thrilled to see all of you  flourishing in your weight loss and I will try to keep up more diligently with posting and my weight loss.

I found this tool that I think might be very helpful to use as a guide.

Good afternoon Ladies

Morgan, good to see you back.. Hope all calms down at home.. Don't see how you do it with 4 little ones.  Mine were 10 years apart and I still had trouble coping.. I know its been said, but these really are the best days of your life.. My 22 yr old daughter got married in July and moved to SC.. It seems like she should still be 6 and at home... Luckily I have the 12 year old son still at home.. before I know it, he will be off to college.. Then what?? Hopefully the "old man" and I will still enjoy each other's company.  One reason I am so dedicated to getting this weight off... to enjoy life now and the future as a healthy woman..

Sharyn, Happy happy bday... I celebrate the whole month -- so keep on going!

Kristi, glad to see Thanksgiving went well... Hard to have the inlaws in and do all that cooking.. and now Christmas is around the corner. It sure is a stressful time to try and stay focus on our new healthy lifestyle, but we can do it.. We will do it..

Everyone else, welcome to you newbies and keep up the hard work.

Just wanted to let you all know that I read a book called "Running for Mortals" this past weekend... If you have any interest at all in running and strength training, i highly recommend it... It is extremely well-written and an enjoyable read.. you will want to be a runner even before you finish it.

My sister and I have been training for a 5K for going on 6 weeks now.. doing to the couch to 5k program. we switched to the program in the book this week.. our first 5k is on January 24th!! now shes talking about an Eco-challenge and we haven't even gotten through this one.. that's how encouraging this book and their program are to us. The authors are John "The Penguin" Bingham & Coach Jenny Hadfield if any of you are interested.. Lots of good stuff in it.. He did not become a runner until he was in his 40s after being overweight all his life, a drinker and smoker. Just thought I would share it with all of you.

Hope everyone has a good week and see ya back on Friday for the weigh in.. remember muscle weighs more than fat (my new tatoo..LOL) Keep on training

Just wanted to let you know that I put all my stats in CC 6 weeks ago, and I have been eating within the calorie limit for the 6 weeks and am losing about 1lb a week.  I go back and forth with sedentary and light activiy.. No easy answer to that one i have found out... I work in an office but am always on the go... I log my activies just to keep track of what I am doing... My sedentary burn is 2100...  I eat around 1600 calories a day . which is 500 defiect a day for the 3500 a wk for the 1lb lost.. I feel good on the 1600 don't really want to eat less.. I do exercise 5-6 days a week alternating with strength/cardio and running.  I know I could lose faster if I ate fewer calories a day, but i want to enjoy life as well and 1600 calories that CC suggests is doing that for me.

I would go with the calories CC suggests for you and log EVERYTHING for a month. you will be surprised at what you really eat (including drinks - alcoholic and non-alcoholic)  No other hints, but do not go under 1200 calories a day, I was doing that before I found this site and I was on a 2 month plateau.. Good luck & welcome

I am the same way with the scales. They are here at work and when i change to go the gym, i tell myself do not get on them.. do not get on them... AND 3 days out of 5 I get on them.. At least not every day any more.. SO do not get on the scales every day.. It's how you feel NOT what you weigh.. STAY OFF THE SCALES.. I know,,, do what i say not what i do... but i am trying.. you try too. that will be our challenge for the rest of this week and next.. NO scale until Friday's weigh in... Agreed?

and I go to ladies only gym.. could not handle the guys.. hard enough with the young thin girls.. AND i love Jillian,, my sister is jillian for me and I am Bob for her when we work out.. It works for us...Laughing

ok this really stinks.  I have been in the 225-227 range for about a month.  I am doing everything I am suppossed to ,yet the scale is stuck.  I make sure I eat 1200 to 1600 cals daily, tuesday I even had 1800.  I do C25K 3x weekly and weight training 3 x weekly for 30 min.  I also try to get in elliptical work for at least 30 on the other days.  I don't know what I am doing wrong!  I wonder if it is due to muscle building or a plateau?  I started out at around 252 in March and  today I am at

225lb.

Any suggestions?  Others out there with close to my stat, what is your calorie intake?

Hope everyone does well with the weighin today!

lsam

I'm at about the same weight as you, but you can't tell much from me because my metabolism is barely crawling (age, limited activity). I don't know what might be causing your slow down but what you're doing sure looks great to me!

Above all, DON'T GIVE UP! It only gets harder with age and you (and all the others on this site who are determined to lose this weight now before getting much older) are very wise to do so. A couple of ladies I know who are in weight watchers have been trying to lose their last few pounds for a long time. One recently reached her goal. She is in her eighties and it had taken her almost a year to get off the last two pounds! She is staying in to maintain, to be with her friends, and to stay motivated;

Do you keep measurements? That should determine if you are building muscles--just thought how stupid of me--of course you are building muscle with all that exercise and are toning up and developing a trimmed down figure! What you are doing is truly great even if the scales aren't showing it right now! They will! Maybe someone with more knowledge than I will have some ideas why your numbers have have gone into sulk mode and are just sitting there right now.

I'm sure someone on this site has an idea on how to jar those numbers loose! If they don't, we'll start digging and see what c/c has about it.

Happy Friday Ladies

Today's Date: Friday, December 5, 2008

Last weeks Weight: 206.8

10% loss = 21.2 (190.6 lbs)

Today's Weight: 205.6

This weeks Loss: -1.2 lbs

Pounds till 1st 10% goal: 15 lbs

First goal: under 200 / Ultimate goal:  180 then we will see

Yeah.. I am so happy with the 1.2 loss.. I really stuck with it this week and started the new running program from the book.. I tried to stay off the scale until today.. Am glad I did..

Make that this week's challenge: -- DO NOT GET ON THE SCALES until next Friday--- the scales do not control us.. It's how you feel, how your clothes fit.. We are building muscle -- it weighs more.

Isam, do not get discouraged.. Weigh on Friday's only.. Take your measurements, change things around.. EAT more.. I know it sounds crazy but it works.. If you are at 225 you should be eating at least 1600 to 1800 a day..(whatever CC says). I avg 1600 cals a day and work out 5 days a week.  Make sure your nutrients are good.. Protein (25%) to fat(25%) and carbs (50%).. I am actually eating more lowfat than fat free because i need the "good" fat.. DO NOT GIVE UP.. we are the only ones that can get us healthy.. Weight is just one part of it.

Everyone else,, good job and good luck.. Stay off the scale til next Friday... Lania, we can do it.. Just say NO, i am not getting on you today.. If you feel like getting on do Jumping Jacks..

yaya and have a great weekend.. GO GATORS

Janet
