Hey just wanted to put this out there. i am SOOO nervous, but i have a great training schedule and helpful coaches. plus i am training on very hilly terrain. any advice for a first timer? any one else running it? i currently do 8 miles in about 64 minutes, so i hope to get about a 4 hour marathon time, but we will see as training progresses.

Congrats!!  I'm signing up to do my first marathon on thursday.  The marathon I want to do is in San Francisco in October.  Let us know how yours goes!!  Good Luck!!

Good luck! I am training for my first marathon as well (Buffalo May 24th..so soon ah!) Just curious..how many calories are you eating a day?

Make sure you have the right shoes and good luck the first one is always the best.

Sounds like you have it down!!  Make sure to enjoy yourself and if you fall a little behind your group...not to worry about it!  :)

On all your long runs, practice your fluids and nutrition!  I can't wait until I break 4 hours one day.  Not.jealous :-)

AW thankyou so much you guys. i am really nervous, but it feels so good to be working towards something that is so much bigger than myself. TO stevie, on run days i eat from 2000 to 2700, and on my "active rest days" i will eat more like 1500-1800. but it all depends on my hunger pains. also i found that the less protein and fiber and fat, the happier my tummy is. i also don't eat for 3 hours before my run, i have a very sensitive GI tract though. Yep, i have had my trainers tell me to practice nutrition on long runs too, but with my stomach, i am a bit scared... runners trot. Embarassed

Blondi- Thanks!.I eat about the same...I wasn't sure if it was too much or too little (since I'm 20 and still a 'teen') anyways, I usually just listen to the growls and answer as I also strength train 3 times a week..

Hmmm protein bothers your tummy? I get the fiber and fat..but I have upped my protein intake so I don't burn as much muscle...I also have a sensitive GI and I am VERY glad I've been testing out foods...during my 18 miler I tried gummy bears..bad choice and glad I did that training! I've been able to keep one type of goo in pretty well, and pretzels were a nice addition to that...as frightening as it to try, I'm glad I did during training and it helps SO much once you get into the higher mileage!

Good luck with training! Keep me posted!
