Starbucks....

Quote  |  Reply

Just went to Starbucks, had one of those Dulce de Leche things (only a tall though!) thinking it'd be OK, as a minor induldgence every once in a while, got home, checked the nutritional information, and it was like 400 calories!!!

Thats an entire meal!

I am totally boycotting starbucks! Who's with me?!?!

To me, that's really not all that overwhelming a caloric intake for an occasional indulgence—if, of course, you know that you are indulging. That being said, however, Starbucks has many options in the 100- to 200-calorie range.

Because coffee stains your teeth, I tend to stick to nonfat steamed milk when I go to Starbucks, sometimes with a little vanilla thrown in. Yummy! But I will occasionally indulge in a nonfat vanilla latte.

There may be good reasons to boycott Starbucks (ack - the prices alone), but they do have lower calorie options.  The tall size "skinny lattes" are only about 130 cals (a little more for the flavored ones with sugar free syrup).  I really like the cinnamon dulce and vanilla.

I think Im just done with the whole thing - you are so right about the expense, and I still think its a lot of calories for what you actually get, I mean Id rather have a chocolate bar or something you can actually eat rather than a drink which doesnt fill me up enough, and the resulting sugar crash a few hours later!

I get the Skinny Caramel Latte, grande sized and it is only like 150 calories or so.  It is non-fat milk and sugar-free syrup.  Now, if that doesn't "do it" for you, then I would avoid Starbucks also.

Samantha

grande nonfat two-pump vanilla latte... no trauma.

wow. of all the palces to boycott, you choose Starbucks? hahaha
A tall skinny vanilla latte is 90 calories. Starbucks is amazing.
Hey, come on! Starbucks has sooo many delicious low-calorie options now, AND they've just switched all their basic drinks from whole milk to 2%! They're totally looking out for us!

(well, besides money-wise: even a tall drink costs like 5$! no wonder I'm broke! lol)

Me, I'm boycotting other restaurants: at most places you're hard-pressed to find a good meal under 800 calories and 2000 mg of sodium. Every time I eat at Boston Pizza I gain like 2 lbs of water weight alone!
grande light frappachinos are less then 200 calories too.
Mmm... tall soy mocha...

I wonder if we could convince them to stock Almond Breeze.

Medium coffee with skim milk... 15 calories.

tall skinny vanilla latte + splenda = delicious drink. it's only like 90 cal, but it doesn't have that bitter nasty coffee taste. plus i think the creamy-ness is kinda filling. one of those and i'm set on full-ness and caffeine for a couple hours. i use it as a breakfast substitute when i'm feeling indulgent

I boycotted Starbucks for a while, I am a fan of the mochas but even the no-whip-skim-milk version is nearly 200 cals, and I prefer not to drink my cals...also drinking coffee makes me crave a cigarette and I gave that up too...also the expense is rediculous.

I swear they put something addictive in their drinks though...come summer you can bet I will be going for a hit of mocha frappucino, just a little one, make it lite, a little one won't hurt right??

I only get thier coffee. I don't mind spending 2 bucks on a grande drip. I do however realize how stupid it is to spend 4 to 5 dollars on a drink. I love thier iced coffee but its more ice then coffee and I am done with it in less then 2 minutes.

Starbucks is so amazing. The only time I ever seem happy anymore is when I'm drinking Starbucks. That propably has to do with my extreme caffine addiction, but still. . . They can be really healthy if you just get the right stuff. They have no fat milk now and it only costs a little extra. You can also get it in heavier instead of the lighter stuff which fills up your stomach. And heck, if you don't want coffee they have awesome tea there to. Besides look at it this way, if you support Starbucks in a decade they'll be bigger then Mcdonals (I really really hate Mcdonalds). :D

It's not Starbucks that drives me crazy, it's those dratted Costco muffins.  Nearly 700 calories.  Blech!  They should come with special warning labels.

I would boycott Costco, but I need someplace to buy socks and whatnot.

I find Starbucks has mediocre coffee at the best of times.  The price is also absolutely APPALLING.  And really, does ANYONE need the Grande size?!?  The tall is more than adequate.  And dont get me started on the wastefulness of throwing out a to-go coffee cup every day.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

All that said, i do go to starbucks very occasionally.  It usually reminds me why i dont go more often.

edit: double post

Seriously, I thought people on this sight have there health and weight loss in mind.  Do you know that a Non fat latte from starbucks is about the same as drinking a glass of skim milk.  If you read up on losing weight it is recommended to get at least 2 dairy servings in each day (not just for weight loss but to prevent osteoporosis).  Its a great mid morning snack and a good way to get in your dairy products. If you want to "boycott" find something that makes more since like the restaurants that refuse to let you order off of the children's menu, when all you really want is a normal size portion.  And as far as throwing away a paper cup daily Starbucks uses recycled materials!

So it's ok to throw it away just because a portion of the cup is made of recycled material?!?!

Why not get a thermo-mug?

Or give starbucks a miss and just drink a glass of skim milk. :P

Or if you really want coffee visit a small independent coffee shop. The service, coffee and price will probably be better.

Huge revenue gathering corporations can kiss my fat a**

I don't think it's ok, I personally have a refillable mug, I make frequent stops I am a coffee addict.  However I refuse to go to our small towns only independently owned coffee shop because they are as expensive as starbucks and there coffee stinks, plus they use Styrofoam cups.  I drink about to lattes a day and 1 of them I make myself at home, with starbucks coffee beans. Plus the service at our star bucks is great, they know mostly all the regulars by name and my drink is always perfect.
