Starbucks is really lame...
Ok, so I stop into Starbucks every once in a while to buy either the shaken green tea or passion tea, cause it's hard to find a cold beverage without either tons of sugar, or artificial sweeteners. I just checked their website, and both already contain about 15 grams of sugar(tall) without added sweetener. Is anyone familiar with the process of preparation of these? Are they real brewed iced teas or some sort of cheap instant powder that contains sweetener? I probably should've noticed it, but It bothers me that I've been consuming sugar and was unaware of it, kinda chaps my ass a little bit....
Ugh, Starbucks....
I hate walking by there and seeing all those trendy a's with their black turtleneck sweaters, sipping on their lattes, browsing on their lap-tops...
It's just swarming with psuedo-intellectuals.
Yep, that was no help at all to you.
The shaken, unsweetened Passion and Green Teas should not have any calories -- they are just tea w/ water and ice.
My Starbucks is just filled with normal folks -- no pseudo-intellectuals. Too bad! I've been looking for some turtleneck-clad folk to hang around with.
Go for a tall Americano - with a tad of Honey if necessary.
Starbucks is what gets me through a semester...
No pseudo-intellectuals here either - Wish there would be more cute nerds though!
Yeah it was Jblargh....negative Starbucks feedback is kinda what I was going for. We got each other's backs *fist bump*

That's what I was thinking, but their website says 80 cals(I think) and 15 grams of sugar.....I think they might be going cheapo and using an instant base

I also found out according to their website that their coffee contains more caffeine than the espresso-based americano. In fact, a venti coffee contains 415mg of caffeine, that's more than a quad shot, interesting stuff.
Dude, that's an ungodly amount of caffeine, yowzers...
Its not an instant powder base, ( i work there), It is real tea. I have brewed it. You have to ask for it unsweetened or else it come with pumps of classic syrup. On the website it shows the sweetened version. Don't worry if you get the unsweetened version it doesn't have any calories or sugar, it just plain tea.
Ok thanks, I thought the nutritional info was for unsweetened, and that the sweetened version added even more. Thanks for the clarification, I no longer feel raped

What's wrong with black turtleneck sweaters, lattes, or using a laptop in combination with them? What about that combination automatically indicates anything about the person's intellect?

TIME FOR SCIENCE!! Brewed coffee has more caffeine than espresso, because the way caffeine is extracted is through osmosis. As in, the longer the grounds soak in water, the more caffeine is extracted. The reason espresso *tastes* stronger is because it's a very fine grind - more surface area of coffee granules exposed to the water, the more flavor is extracted. However, water is pressed through espresso powder very quickly, for a strong-tasting but relatively lower-caffeinated drink.
PLUS, most of the espresso drinks are sugar and milk with the espresso thrown in as a coffee flavoring. By volume, you are consuming far more coffee with a venti coffe than with a venti latte.
Also, I don't like Starbucks. Because they sell sugar and milk, which I'm not interested in, and burnt coffee, which tastes icky to me :)

Heh heh - I've come across people who refer to it as "Charbucks", and just prefer to head get their coffee at a Dunkin' Donuts.
Not a fan of the automated espresso and pre-ground beans at Starbucks, but with that insane volume of customers it had to happen. I pick up beans from Trader Joe's and brew my own espresso if time allows in the morning, otherwise Starbucks gets the job done....
gary - You could get it with one of the sugar-free syrups if you wanted some sweetness and didn't mind the chemicals...
j-synder - I LOVE SCIENCE!! I was about to pull that out while I was reading, but you got the lesson book out first....damn.
Coffee sure does have tons more caffeine than esspresso...BUT tea has more caffeine than BOTH of them...Green tea has the most caffeine of thoes types of beverages. The stuff in tea reacts differently with your body to give more of a slow burn, which is why you don't usually get a high and low from tea.
lol.. I'm one of those people who gets Starbucks, like, five times a week.
It's loaded with sugar and sweeteners but it's just sooo good and for only 140 calories... I'm hooked. Sorry I'm no help.
My stepdaughter works at Starbucks and I think each drink has different things added to it. They have different syrups and such. In fact just the other day she was telling me about the green tea but I don't remember what they put in it. They are usually really helpful and if you ask them what is in it they can par down or eliminate what you don't want. Hope that helps.

Wow, I can't believe you actually took my post 100% seriously.
Ummm, because I like making extreme generalizations?
The remarks I hear about Starbucks always make me laugh. The Starbucks experience is not based solely on the beverage. I know I can't get iced coffee from McDonalds or Dunkin Donut and be recognized by name and greated with a friendly smile.
I would recommend having a skinny latte. There are a few sugar free syrups to choose from. I enjoy carmel and cinnamon dolce.
If by "lame" you mean convenient and delicious, I totally agree! :D
haha, what a funny conversation. I feel crazy to say that I agree with just about every opinion here. I love insulting the place and blaming all of my city's problems on the existence of McCoffee, but that doesn't stop me from going there and buying a Blended Lemonade with a shot of Energy (expensive slurpee with speed) @ $3.00 and 250 calories! ![]()
