STARBUCKS = skinny latte, non-fat latte's, skim latte's
Does anyone know......
Is a Skim Latte (Nonfat) Latte the same calories as the newly-advertised Skinny Lattes? Are they the same thing if you don't get the flavoring?
thanks.

I don't know, but when I ordered a tall skinny yesterday and was watching them make it they used soy milk. Mentally, I didn't like it as much :) I was thinking next time to get one made of nonfat instead. I suppose the biggest bonanza for me is the whole idea of ordering a "tall" versus grande or venti. That difference alone is more than the difference between nonfat or soy so I guess it comes mostly down to taste preference.
They aren't supposed to use soy milk unless you ask for it.
The skinny latte is the same as a 'nonfat' or 'skim' latte. They will also add a flavor, which would be sugar free. It's a marketing gimmick.
I have been drinking these a little too often (my caffeine habit appears to be back with a vengeance). I think the milk they use is skim, and the syrups they use to flavor them are artificially sweetened.
Edited to add: I forgot to mention I was talking about the skinny lattes. And I don't mind the caramel kind.
Thanks for the info. I drink them a little too often too but it is my treat on those busy hectic days.
It's funny cause Starbucks has a sign posted indicating that the Skinny Latte is 130 calories but Calorie Counter lists the grande non-fat latte at 168. Not that 38 calories is going to make or break my diet - just was confused about what the difference was.
The only thing that changed is that Starbucks added some new sugar free syrups.
Whereas I used to have to get a non-fat no whip mocha for 220 calories, I can now get the skinny (only change is the syrup) for 130 calories.
The espresso is only around 5 or 10 calories, so most of the calories are healthy skim milk calories :)
skinny latte = skim milk and sugar free syrup
skim / non-fat latte = also skim milk, but sugared syrup
Hopefully someone from Starbucks will weigh in

A nonfat latte is NOT the same as a skinny latte.
A normal, run of the mill Starbucks latte is made with 2% milk (a more recent change, until last fall, it was always whole milk unless otherwise requested), a dollop of foam on top, and possibly some syrup inside. Many promotional lattes or special drinks (Pumpkin Spice, Cinnamon Dolce, Mocha, White Mocha, to name a few) also have whipped cream on top. Syrup in the drink is the major source of calories. Other milk options for
A nonfat latte is the same as above, except it is prepared with nonfat/skim milk. The syrup used is the same, and it will include whipped cream on those promotional beverages I mentioned.
A skinny latte is made with nonfat milk, a sugar-free syrup (vanilla, hazelnut, cinnamon dolce, caramel, or mocha), and no whipped cream. All Starbucks sugar free syrups are fat and calorie free except sugar free mocha, which has a nominal calorie content. The 90/130/160 calorie values (for a tall, grande, and venti, respectively) come from the calorie values in the milk used - Nonfat milk is only fat free as the name would suggest, it is not calorie-free.
As for the person who received soy milk in his or her skinny latte, I am not sure where your Starbucks is located, but the barista who prepared your drink was incorrect in including soy milk in your drink.
And to the person whose drink was foamier - your skinny latte should not contain any more foam than any other latte. Your barista probably did not "hold back the foam" when pouring the milk into your beverage as he or she should have. Most Starbucks baristas prepare drinks according to standard, but unfortunately some do have their own ways of doing things, which is the source of any errors that were made in preparing your drink.
Hope I cleared some things up :)
AFITCHBARBIE -- Thank you so much for explaining all this. Whoever thought a cup of coffee would be so complicated! LOL. I knew if I waited long enough someone with 'inside information' would respond! Thanks again. ~ Sue
Anyway, so thanks to AFITCHBARBIE for breaking it down!

I gotta say I love the new 'skinny' thing, simply because it's much easier to say "Triple Skinny Cinnamon Dolce" than it is to say "Non-fat-sugar-free-no-whip-triple Cinnamon Dolce" (;
mmm. i have no idea what you just said but it does sound good!
