start eating bad, you just want to keep eating bad
I don't know if anyone else has this problem. When I start eating bad during the day say I have a piece of cake or some cookies, you just want to keep eating cookies and ice cream and pizza and potato chips.
You are eating well fruits and vegetables, and then you get weak and eat some cake and your brains remembers that all those bad foods just taste so damn good. Too bad they are really bad for you.
God Yes!!!! delicious yummy chocolate and ice cream...let me stop. but yes, when i've eaten something less than healthy, but more than tasty, a huge part of me just wants to polish off the rest of it.
ex: my mom brought me an ENTIRE leftover triple chocolate cake from a party she'd went to (this was over the holidays). i don't like cake, but i'm in love with chocolate. i took one bite and i kinda zoned out for a minute. you ever seen "requiem for a dream?" it was kinda like when they were just feeling the high. it was a huge cake, and i kept going back and back until it was gone. it took three or four ridiculous days, but i ate the whole thing, and felt absolutely sick over it. actually sick, not metaphorically, although i was pissed at myself for doing something so stupid. that cake is partly why i gained 16 lbs. over the holidays.
so since xmas ended, i've been trying to eat like a sane person. it ain't easy, but i'm trying. i have to force myself to have just ONE serving of yumminess, and it has to be modified, like fat-free, or sugar-free, because it doesn't taste as good, so i won't want as much.
What i like is when you are driving and you have your windows down and go by a wendy or mcdonalds and you can smell the grease from the french fries and think to your self while you are at that red light that all you want is one small fry.
But you know you never get just the small fry you get a cheese burger or 2 and chicken sandwich or 2 and one small fry.
I find it hard also that all my life I have been the one to finish the meal, what ever is left. The rest of the chicken or macaroni or french fries there is only 2 pieces left. I will finish it....
I do the same.
Plus when I overindulge or binge its always of a full stomach. I never get urges to eat tons of junk unless I'm already full from a big meal...weird.
having that pint of ice cream instead of a 1/2 cup.
or that bag of jax instead of some carrots or something like that
yup yup
the story of my life...right here
has been happening to me constantly since november...major binging on sweets.
i either think "well, heck, ive already messed up so i might as well enjoy eating as much junk as i can right now" or "ive lost track of how many calories ive eaten, so i'll just keep eating"
if i eat ONE indulgent thing during the day, i will crave it for the rest of the day
its odd, isnt it?
instead of curing a craving, eating something tasty spurs an even BIGGER craving and...a binge
i hate it to :(
Yes that is it
instead of curing a craving, eating something tasty spurs an even BIGGER craving and...a binge
Because sometimes once you start you almost cant help yourself and think well it is only a little ad then you look down and you have finished the bag of m&m's not just a handful.......
I am glad I am not the only one that this happens to
I keep buying a box of snack crackers and I'm DETERMINED to do this one day..........have a handful, then save the rest for another day.
But............once the box is open, what's one more, huh? And, I have a tough life, so don't I deserve just one more handful? so, before I know it the box is gone in one afternoon.
Since 100 pks cost more, I'm still trying to buy a big box and put it in little baggies and have one a day...............why is that so hard?
Yeah, I have the same problem. When I want to have a treat, I can only get one serving size of m&m's or skittles at the store. When I'm getting it, I always think 'maybe I should get another one for tomorrow.' But the thing is, I know the second one would never make it to tomorrow.
But in the past, I've had binges on boxes of crackers or bags of chips or ice cream or some other incredibly huge portion of something too yummy. This is why I need this website for support!

I tried a box of Oreo 100 calorie packs and it became a 600 calorie pack after I ate the whole box. Plus they're not even good! Not even close to a real oreo. I ate the whole box and then wanted real oreos afterwards. *sigh* So I guess the 100 calorie packs don't work if you eat the whole box...one pack does nothing for me.
I am with you all; I cannot stop at one or 2 of a tasty treat.
girl scout cookies are everywhere. When you come out of the supermarket even. And then yes you can not eat just one or two. maybe one or two rows of cookies.
The other bad part is those rotisserie chicken they sell, you know you should eat only a leg or some of the breast. But eating the whole chicken just tastes so good, even thought you know you should not.

I HEAR YA. i have completly cut icecream out of my diet, except i eat icecream on birthdays and stuff
The desire to eat fats, sugars and salt is part of all human beings. This is what drives us to surrvive across 1000's of years. You are not alone. I am challenged every day, by the 6 McDonalds, 4 Taco Bells, 7 Burger Kings, 4 whatburgers, countless taco stands and other resturants I pass everyday. It would be easy to stop and get junk food, but then my life would be harder. I dont want to live that way and neither do you.
We all have are days that challenge our ability to handle stress. Food used to be my stress handler and on days where I lose focus, I revert to food when I am stressed. And now that I understand my response to stress, I am able to make better choices when I am stressed. Even if I eat some junk food (which I do about once per week) I make sure I eat as healthy as possible the rest of the time.
There are very good substitutes for many of your favorites:
Ice Cream - Health choice fudge bar 100 calories and 5 grams of fiber in every bar. And it tastes good!
Pizza - I make my own using whole wheat flour blended with white flour. Tomato sauce is good for you. Go easy on the cheese. Add your own toppings. Turkey pepperoni is ok; veggies are even better for you. Stay away from cream sauces. The benefit is two fold, first I have to make the pizza, which means 1 hour in the kitchen, then I get to eat it.
Chips - you can try the healthier baked versions if they dont do it for you, watch the portions and have some of the regular ones. I am eating 1800 calories per day and I can make room for a portion of chips during the day and still meet my goals.
No matter what always watch the portion size.
How often should you eat during the day?
It is neither necessary to eat every two hours nor to stop eating at 6:00 PM. As long as your calorie intake is less than your output... Read more
