Too much to start?
I just started going back to the gym a few days ago and I've been doing cardio for an hour each time. Is that too much to start with?
Too generic to answer really. How do you feel, what kind of cardio are you doing, at what intensity, what is your fitness level now, what/how much were you doing before, how long was the break?

I feel kind of tired. I walked on the treadmill (3.0 mph) with some short runs, about 10 minutes out of the hour, interspersed (at 6.5 mph). My fitness is awful and I wasn't really doing anything before this. I hadn't been to the gym in months.
See how you feel tomorrow. If you are really sore, etc then yeah scale back.
If you feel fine, then stick with it. It seems like you're taking things slow during that hour, which is good since you're out of shape. My only recommendation would be to take one day off a week.

I think it might be too much running if you mean 10 minutes at a time, rather than 10 minutes total. Otherwise, walking at 3 mph is probably a great start unless you are older (and you don't look it, from your profile pic).
I'm a runner and I run for sometimes 60 minutes at a time, at a rather intense level (never under 6mph). So, it's all about how you feel. It's very important when you start kicking up the exercise regimen that you listen to your body.
Make sure to incorporate weight lifting with your cardio and as said above--> ALWAYS take a day off. Otherwise, if you feel fine, I don't think your doing too much. One downfall to people who begin at too high of a level is that most get burnt out. Make sure to mix it up and keep it fun. You should begin to enjoy the way that it makes you feel.
:o) good luck! Being in shape is one of the best feelings! So don't give up!
I agree that you should do more than just the treadmill, such as spinning or yoga, or whatever other classes interest you. And if your goal is to be a runner, you need to start weight-training and conditioning, even if it's just a few squats and lunges at first. Strong legs prevent injuries!
