When did you start gaining weight?

For me it was college.

What about you guys?

Just curious.

At birth! I was one of those very round chubby-cheeked babies...

Puberty. But it got REALLY bad when I had tobe on the sidelines from my sports for a good six months. And, well lets say BBQ hot pockets and Super-cheesy quesadillas do NOT keep someone svelte. hahaha. haaaa.

I was chubby by 8, slimmed down through puberty (yay growth spurts), then started putting weight back on ever since high school.

In my late twenties.  I started taking Depo Prevera, that stuff is EVIL!  No matter how much I ate, I was always starving within a couple hours.  Not to mention the horrid mood swings, ugh.  It was at that point that I developed a fondness for greasy fried foods.  It's been an uphill battle with my weight ever since.

Pregnancy #1.  70 pounds in 9 months makes Julie's tummy hideous.  :(

During my pregnancies, especially my second.  And we're not just talking baby weight:)

For me, it was when I hit 29 and broke my leg.  I was laid up for 8 weeks and managed to pack on 40 pounds in 3 months.  I have been fighting the evil battle ever since and I am almost 40.

Late college.

I was always thin, always have been very active in sports and life in general.  During my senior year of college I moved off campus.  Had to buy my own food and spent alot more time watching TV because on campus I never had one in my room.

Between less activity, a faltering metabolism, and feeling like I was throwing away money if I didn't eat that last slice of pizza...I put on 15 pounds.  First time in my life I felt fat at 185.

Stayed between 185-195 for about 5 years, then I got married, the next 10 years I added on another 30.

Me too!  I have never been slim or even "average".  Though I packed on an extra 15 pounds (I'm guessing) the year my sister lived with me and brought lots of junk food into my house so my first goal is to get rid of those.  (She's since moved in with my folks and now my mum's gaining instead of me.)

I was skinny kid, but I gained a quite a bit during puberty.  I lost about 30 lbs my first year of college, but then I gained it all back after I started my job.  It stressed me out and there are always snacks everywhere!!!

The bulk of my weight came during a 4 year long relationship. I dropped the weight right after that.

I remember being "normal" in Kindergarten but by 4th grade I was already overweight.  It's been an uphill battle ever since!

I was a chubby kid in 5th grade -- which is the time I became very weight conscious due to my parents.  My mom was a chronic yo-yo dieter and my dad very athletic.  I never developed good eating habits and even after my growth spurt and a few years of being leaner -- I ended up heavier in high school.  I always had a very distorted body image and wonder if I hadn't been so aware of being overweight as a kid -- if I might have had a healthier body as a teen.  I was sporty -- but never as lean as my friends.  My weight fluctuated through college and I've been prone to emotional eating since I can remember.  Trying to keep that under control and by monitoring calories has helped me lose about 20 pounds (30 from my heaviest).  I am certainly healthier and more fit than I was in high school -- and probably weigh less. I feel like this change is permanent -- but I do worry about pregnancy (a few years down the road) and putting weight back on.

After 2 years in college.

In fact when i got INTO college i LOST 15-20 pounds from high school because i ate better and walked to class every day.

as soon as it was over though i gained 20 pounds over the course of 6 months, even though i still ate the same (and walked, but a  little less).

Some in late college (I'm a picky eater - lots of french fries and bread), but mostly after college when all of these became true: a) less exercise since I wasn't running around campus with twenty pounds of books and computer, b) I could cook exactly what I wanted (mmm, let's eat an entire box of Rice-a-roni for dinner) and c) possibly the metabolism thing?

So do you guys think that if you always stayed in high school and never went to college, you wouldn't have gained AS MUCH weight?

College wasn't the culprit for me-- although it really affected a lot of girls I knew back then. It was the starchy foods and cafeteria style buffet that got to you-- along with the not wanting to waste any food on a tight budget.

For me the real culprit was a mix of motherhood, (not the actual pregnancies but the later stress of being a parent), divorce, working long hours in a stressful job, dating and turning 40 when all of the sudden, I can't eat like I used to and stay at a reasonable weight!

Me three.

I was also made very aware of how I was overweight and still struggle with my body image now.  Ironically, both my parents are very overweight (if not obese) yet always felt the need to tell me to eat less or point out that I was too fat.

Haha.  College isn't really the culprit - it's your 20's.  Your metabolism slowsss down.  And continues to get worse.
