Salome, I'm tagging this. :)
Got it. Thanks.
Good stuff - thanks Salmone! =)
I like this. Thanks Salome.
This is a nice post. But it seems, from my perspective, to be mimic on the project that the user Garnet77 started 3 days ago and is geared toward new membership, which currently has a lot more information than what is currently posted in this thread. How about making a contribution to that project instead of just reposting only some of the information already currently available in the project spearheaded by the user Garnet77? Did you see my suggestion in that thread to go through your list of tagged threads and share anything you would feel would be of relevance to the community. There have been some really great threads posted to the public forums of this site. I really believe that the user Garnet77 wants to put something together larger in scope that is not only of benefit to the entire community but definitely focused on potential new members. She seems to really be interested in having contributions from all the membership and it would be great if you can help her out. I believe that if enough heads get together, it would be of greater benefit than if each person just goes about something individually. Personally, I would like to see that sort of effort encouraged in the longevity. Reference: http://www.calorie-count.com/forums/post/1713 3.html
I put this together on the fly because of a couple new friends asking for the data.
It didn't hurt to repeat - I didn't see garnets project.

OK I went and checked out Garnet's project. It does have lots of good information but it actually has too much information. Sometimes simple is the best route.
you're awesome salome :)
You're right, sometimes simple is best, Salome.
I don't see the two projects as the same thing exactly.
Yes, what you saw has too much info, it's simply a catch all for ideas until its all put together to be posted nicely and neatly.
Many folks have offered great advice here, for example hk's 'diet', X's post with lots of info and coachdee posted a bunch of stuff.
the point of the FAQs is to make it simple, when someone comes along and says can i eat 900 cals and lose weight? instead of pointing to say, the diet and expecting them to read everything we sum it up and post a link to the diet. it's not for everyone to have to read the whole thing, just to get the one answer they're looking for.

No Worries Garnet. I like your idea. :)
great! thanks. any ideas? a question you've had to answer a bazillion times?
A lot of people come in here and dont even know where to start. Some of them dont even know how to nagivate properly through logging the calories. I was like that when I first came on here. I think adding that link about the screencast is a great idea for the newbies. This site has a lot of offer and the more we can push it out there for everyone the better.
Again nice work Salome!!! I tagged it!! I know I will need to when school is over. :)

Salome, may I suggest that if you want to keep it simple as a guide for new members, to remove the link from the thread posted from the user Hkellick. That is A LOT of really great information for a new member to digest all at once. I believe having a link to the library is sufficient enough to keep along with the theme of keeping it simple.
From a personal perspective, when you highlight one thread posted by one member in a message that is focused toward new users, such as the information posted by the user Hkellick, while it may be a great thread, you are leaving out those who have contributed massive amounts of resources and references to the community. That leads to hurt feelings and I don't believe that was your initial intention.
I think Howard said it best in the first message, his thread is not suppose to be the end-all be-all of how-to guides and it really, in my opinion, shouldn't be promoted as such. One of the things that has personally bothered me about his thread, is the lack of links to references as to where the information comes from. It's good information and new members can find it by going to the library. With all the other really great information that is available in the library contributed by the membership at large. I am concerned with the information posted by the user Hkellick and being promoted such as it is in this thread specifically, it has the potential to be taken out of context and misrepresented as sound medical advice from a trained medical professional. I really feel that is something to be cautious and aware of.
Perhaps you might want to consider a disclaimer that information available via the library is user contributed?
Thanks for putting this post together! It's a really great start and a good idea. I just really feel, from my own perspective, that it needs a slight bit of tweaking to refrain from hurting the feelings of other members whom have made significant contributions to the community. That is hopefully one of our goal as a community is to work together on projects, such as this on the one that the user Garnet77 is currently putting together and all the examples of very successful projects in the past contributed by a large majority of the membership. Because not just one person has all the answers. We all contribute and that is what makes this community so great and keeps it great and growing day by day, in my opinion.

Tagged it, Salome. :oD
ix, Salome's intention was to not leave others OUT. It was to help others IN.
Sometimes "tweaking" can fine tune something wonderful to death, and the spontaneity and honesty in the original thought is gone. I prefer something less sterile, myself.
We're all just people. Humans. Some highly verbal, some not so verbal but have equal amounts of information and thoughts. How you present it is important, naturally. And I think Salmome did a wonderful job. As did garnet. Applause for both!
Now. Shall we read...? :oD

GOOD JOB SALOME!!!!!!
What if Salome doesn't have to the time to dedicate herself to the community project... or to tweaking this? What if she just left it as a simple info "snack", like it was meant to be?
Let those with the time and ambition and desire to go all out, go all out! We definitely appreciate it, but there's no reason why Salome needs to take this further if she doesn't want to.

Jayd, the only tweak I am suggestioning, is to remove the link to the really great thread posted by the user Hkellick. Because Salome stated that she wanted to keep the message simple (which is a really great point), that particular thread can be really really overwhelming for a new member when they can already find that thread through the link to the library, which is already provided in the orginal message. What perhaps I am failing to attempt, is to offer feedback to the overall big picture of the idea behind what I believe was the initiation of this particular thread. I don't believe a minor text edit, such as what I am suggesting is all that time consuming or ambitious. I am not making a statement that it has be done, it is just as it is intended, a suggestion from a different perspective. I don't want to see anyone's feelings hurt, which has indeed happened because of this thread and perhaps that is something to potentially consider. Community related ideas, such as I believe the spirit of this thread was intended, succeed, I believe, based on contributions and suggestions from the community.
Here's a novel idea...!!
WHY don't we let people make their OWN choice as to read or not read "the user HKellicks" link?
*Clasps hands in utter joy!!!!!!!!*
Situation solved! :oD

Well, kath.....it's my belief that CC'ers are wonderfully smart, articulate people. And they can make up their own minds. :oD
SO much fabulous information there. Between all that everyone has done. Spent personal time researching, gathering, posting....all in the name of helping others with questions! I've learned a LOT.
