Agreed that some things ameliorate with input from a general consensus... however, why does everything have to be so perfect all the time? It was just a simple post, why can't we let it be?
When I give shorthand answers to questions in the future, I sure hope you don't feel you have to take me to task for not tweaking and rereading and analyzing my answer till it was the best that it could be.

I am not here to argue or deal with the mob mentality today. Some people's feelings have been hurt and that concerns me. The user Salome has every right decide what the original message should or should not communicate from her own viewpoint. I have only offered simple suggestions and they can be taken into consideration or not.
IX, Who's feeling have been hurt by my post?
I understand you were making simple suggestions... but you have to take into consideration whether or not those suggestions were necessary.
Have you every had a problem in your life where you just wanted to talk to someone about it but you didn't need them to tell you how to fix it? And in fact, them telling you how to make it better just made it worse? How sometimes you just need someone to listen and not say anything?
I really think this is one of those instances where further constructive commentary was not needed from peers, perhaps just inquiries from the new users this was specifically directed too.

Wow kids, way to take a positive and turn it into a negative! great job!
Salome, being new I really appreciate your help, thank you.

Jeunene...Salome, being new I really appreciate your help, thank you.
That is the best thing I heard all day. Thank you!

ummm....
how are people going to read this, if they're not in the forums (fora!) all the time cause they're new and it's not at the top all the time and they don't know to use the library yet cause they're new? If they haven't found the FAQ yet, how can an FAQ about finding the FAQ help? This used to confuse me about spelling, too, cause how were you supposed to look up the spelling of a word in the dictionary if you couldn't spell the word to look it up?
just... asking. I think both (all 12 or whatever, really) posts are full of great information (I guess that's the standard "don't hate me" disclaimer).

i see evil people...
I can't believe what I see.
jules, i can never understand what the h you're saying... and that's what i love about you! :) *kisses and hugs*... i like that you swirl me around and around with pretty colours and stars and that at the end of it all, i have no clue what's going on! lol
See, I love Garnie's post, but I don't think it's really something to reference *yet* With everyone's input, it's a mish mash of ideas, albeit great ones. And it's in the Lounge. I think most newbies that are jumping head first into the forums are starting with the Weightloss and Motivation forums. I can't be certain because I didn't actually research it, but that's where the majority of the repetitive questions arise. I don't think a lot of newbies are going to see it right away if they stop and post in the other forums first. After all, the Lounge is the last on the list of forums and maybe they're starting at the top???
That said, I also like Salome's simple little post. It's a good starting point, giving newbies a since of direction and where to "start" looking for things. It's a good navigation tool. I don't think it was meant to be the end all be all, just...what it is. Whether HK's post is voluminous or not isn't really relevant. It's just a link that Salome found useful and wanted to share with others. Her post was short and sweet, and if newbie's can't digest lengthy threads, how can they be expected to digest Garnie's thread or any of the other information in the forum library and elsewhere on CC? Maybe she could link Garnie's post once it's all compiled.

awww... good job, jules honey!!!! just remember that a little rambling is good sometimes... that's where all the good ideas come from! ;)
Jules suggests:
and let's have a romping conversation about how to deal with people who come and ask the same questions (different day/name, same verse) over and over b/c they didn't bother to go back through and read/reread anything... including the library or tos!!! and I hope we can chat about ideas :)
I have a thought.
First you take a wooden mallet, right? And you keep it by your side. And when you have time you carve 'READ THE LIBRARY, FOOL!" into the hammer..
Then when someone asks the same question that was asked yesterday without bothering to read the FAQ or the forums, Smack 'em. Smack 'em HARD!
Barring that, answer the question, if you can. Leave the post alone if you can't and hope someone else answers. If not, well... it is up to each individual user to get his question answered. It isn't up to us to have to answer.

I realize alot of you are disappointed we can't (presently) do "sticky" posts, but here's another idea to help build a newb FAQ/resource section - we can add links, statements, etc to the area above the textbox for new posts.
For example, try to post a new topic in the Calorie-Count.com forum. There's a little notice there:
IMPORTANT, please check our help engine first.
Perhaps we could make this more visible, and add to the other forums, integrating some of the recent FAQs, links, etc?

er..nevermind, complete blond moment there! but umm, yeah :) sounds like a good idea :)
I clicked the link erik and it doesn't seem to work. - Fixed thanks!
