When started counting calories

Quote  |  Reply

I was wondering how old you were when you first became conscious of your weight and the age at which you first started dieting/changing your eating habbits?  I was always known as a thin/skinny kid and (sadly) I already wanted to be even skinnier when I was in 6th grade to maintain that image of the cute skinny child. I also had this complex that my stomach was really big and I felt self conscious about it. From highschool and on I was careful about the number of calories I took in and I am now 21 and still doing it. i used to be embarrased that I did this and would not tell anyone which is why I like this site so much because it helps me to realize how not alone I am in this.

From the age of 13 my mum would 'pinch an inch' on me and tell me that I had to be careful of what I ait, at 14 I was put on my first diet and now I'm in a bit of a mess.  I look at pictures of myself when I was 14 and wish I was still that skinny.

It was only a year ago when I saw a picture of myself with my boyfriend and hated what I saw.  It was a shock and I started looking for a website to help me lose.  I found this, read about peoples success with it and started.  So that is the point I became concious about cals.  Before the only diet I'm been on was a crappy weight watchers diet which didn't do anything for me.  I learn nothing about what and how to eat untill I started with this sight.

I was 17 my first husband, who was my boy friend at the time, constantly compared me to other women and found me wanting. I've had a weight problem ever since, fortunately now, finally, I am in control and losing weight to reach an acheivable sensible weight.

I've seen photographs of me at a family party where my ex refused to go with me because I was so fat and ugly, I was a UK size ten. I remember when I went back to work after having my second child and whilst clothes shopping for 'work suits' my ex burst into to tears, I asked him why? His response 'You know I never thought I would be married to someone that needed to buy clothes in a size 16!'

How long has it taken me to sort myselff out? You decide, I'm 51 years old.And thank goodness these days if a partner ever spoke to me the way my ex did I would tell them to get a life!

Interesting footnote, he left me for a much younger, much slimmer woman, they have since had a child and he has the waistline of full term pregnant woman of at least quads, she's not wearing too well either! Innocent

Haha! Rosl, you make me smile.

Third grade is when I noticed that I was a chubby kid. I didn't try to do anything about it, though, because my mom told me it meant I was about to grow taller. (LIES!) In sixth grade, my doctor asked me why I had gained so much weight. I was like twelve, what did I know about nutrition? In High School I wasn't the thinnest girl, but boys still liked me so I didn't care. The day of my first wedding dress fitting, the dress didn't fit. That was the beginning of me seriously hating the way I looked. So, I was about 8 when I noticed and 18 before I decided to do something about it.
