Now we all joined with the goal of losing a certain amount of weight. Well it just doesn't work by saying "I am going to lose this weight by a certain date" and the weight will just fall off. You need a plan.
Well what is YOUR plan?
Are you going to follow one of the thousands of diet out there?
Are you going to make up your own?
Are you going to exercise?
What new foods are you going to incorporate into your new lifestyle?
What foods are you going to give up?
Do you have a deadline or just keep going until you reach your goal?
Is your goal to live a healthier lifestyle?
Well what is YOUR plan?
My goal is to lose between 25-30 pounds by February. I have lost 88 pounds.. now I need to drop the last bit.
Are you going to follow one of the thousands of diet out there? Not really.. I do watch the amount of carbs I eat and steer clear of bad food.. but I don't really diet or count calories. I never have.. I just made sure that the food I was eating had a nutritional value.. if it doesn't.. then I don't eat it.
Are you going to make up your own? I guess you can say that.. More than a diet.. it is a lifestyle change..
Are you going to exercise?
Definately!!!
What new foods are you going to incorporate into your new lifestyle? More vegtables.
What foods are you going to give up? Cookies, cakes, I am a sugar addict.
Do you have a deadline or just keep going until you reach your goal? I would like to get this done and over with by February.
Is your goal to live a healthier lifestyle? Yes.. being overweight puts me at a higher risk of things like diabeites and heart disease.. I don't want either of these problems.
my plan is to write in my journal my calorie and fat intake. I will also exercise. I have stopped eating "fast food". i have started to eat more of the fresh produce and fruit. I actually measure out the food according to teh serving size on the label. I have lost 7 pounds in 10 days
My plan is to do portion control. I purchased a portion control platter system that I use to control my food portions. It is really great because I don't have to measure. I just put the food in the section created for it and it is the correct portion. I also plan to eat mini 350 calorie meals every 3 hours.
As far as beverages go, I plan to drink at least 8 cups of water and 2 cups of wu-yi tea daily and maybe a cup of 100% juice and I'll try for a cup or two of 1% milk. That's it.
I plan to consume as much organic/natural foods as possible. Try to find the foods without High Fructose Corn Syrup and eat whole grain varieties of pasta, rice, and bread (The brown rice pastas are actually very good).
As for exercise, I do malibu pilates everyday (I am currently doing the 20 minute video working my way to the 45 minute). I also workout 4 days a week at work. (I had been slacking on this, but it is time to get with it)
I am planning on doing the colonix colon cleanse pretty soon as well.
I am not dieting, I am making a healthy lifestyle change that I will do for the rest of my life.
- Tracey
My plan: Well my goal is to lose AT LEAST 35lbs by spring (march), so here is what I have in mind.
Are you going to follow one of the thousands of diet out there? No, Im not.
Are you going to make up your own? I would suppose thats what im doing, have used the different things on the site to determine my caloric intake to get to my goal by my goal date, and actually have set a personal goal lower than what they suggest. I plan my meals for each day before I go to bed the nite before, then I MAKE myself stick to it, snacks included.
Are you going to exercise? Yes, I have already begun, prior to my decision to do this the only exercise I got was walking the dog for about 10min 2x a day, and playing golf once a week, and even then I ride a cart (bad knee). Since I have started (a week ago) I am now riding my bike 4miles 2x a day (20min avg) and walking 1.5 miles 2x a day. As the weather turns too cold for riding outdoors, I will be riding the same bikes in higher gears on a stand inside. (my dad is building me one to my specs). I also have intentions of joining a local gym once finances allow it.
What new foods are you going to incorporate into your new lifestyle? I have never been a big fan of vegetables, however I am *learning* to eat more than just corn and peas. I also have quit purchasing *sweets* and have replaced them with fresh fruits such as bananas, grapes, peaches, and apples.
What foods are you going to give up? I used to drink ALOT of coke and sweet tea (avg 3 quarts a day). I have given the coke up completely and have cut my tea intake down to 1 8oz glass with lunch and dinner. I have also cut out ALL snacks that arent a fruit or vegatble that I can eat raw.
Do you have a deadline or just keep going until you reach your goal? Im not sure I would call it a deadline as much as a goal date, IF I havent reached my goal wt loss by then, then I WILL continue, IF I reach it before then, I will try to continue to get the other 15 lbs (which I will do anyway).
Is your goal to live a healthier lifestyle? Yes and No. Yes because my family has a history of Heart Disease as well as Diabetes and High Blood Pressure. No because in reality, as vain as it is, I just want to look better, and If my health were as big of a concern as it should be, Id quit smoking at the same time (which I will eventually).
I do have a plan....
I would like my Calorie intake to be around 1200 (give or take, I wont beat my self up if I am a bit over)
I am exercising, M.W.F. and I try to exercise on T and TH. as well. I alternate upper body and lower body. And I do cardio for atleast 30 mins. every day I work out.
We are going on a cruise Nov. 14th. I do not wish nor want to lose all my wieght by then... However I do want to have made a dent.
I am looking to work on portion control and acknowledge when I am actually full, not over eating. I do not like milk, but I have began drinking "Silk" to increase my Calcuim intake... and taking vitiamns.
I plan on limiting my Soda intake to one can/bottle a day ( I currently drink 3-5). I am replacing them with Tea, water and juice.
I think it is important to REWARD myself. I have set my rewards for when I hit target weights.... 165 (a loss of 10 lbs).... 155.... 150 ..... 145... 140... The lower the weight... the larger the reward. I figure the first 20 lbs will be the easiest.. The rewards are further between... as it gets harder... the more rewards!!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL
Well for now I am just counting calories capping a 1500 and as little as 1200, which rarely happens,
. I'm not going to stress myself out by rushing to lose this weight, I'm just going to make sure my calorie intake is always lower than whatever calories i burn all day, i just say it's 2100, i know it's not totally accurate because some days I do lots of excercise. I'm not sure if I'm going to work out super hard at first, just walking and i love my pilates, but when the winter hits I'm joining the gym and hitting it hard. As for the food i eat, I'm just making sure if i want sweets I eat them in the morning or the latest lunch, and try to only have veggies and protein for dinner that way when i sleep none of the carbs i love so much will go to my behind... I only eat breads high in fiber, and try to get legumes everyday at lunch. Hmmm i guess thats all I'm doing for now. Oh and i always drink a lot of water, and take vitamin supplements as well as my green tea daily. Even though I'm not losing a ton of weight right now, although its been 2 weeks since i weighted myself, i get scared of the machine sometimes, I feel healthier all around anyways. I hope the weight will follow slowly ![]()
I am working towards a combination of South Beach (low processed carbs) and Weight Watchers point system. Part of the problem has been not feeling well to get some exercise in and short on money for the healthier fruits and vegetables. My co-workers are nice enough to bring in high fat no no foods and share them freely. I lean towards salty crunchy foods but now am craving sweets after I eat. But I need to do something my energy level is low and health needs a boost.
I was walking anywhere between 5-40 miles a week dpending on how I felt but havent walked now for 4 weeks because I dont feel well. I need to get some help with motivation and exercise ideas for inside now that winter is nipping on our heels here in MN.
Thank you,
April
Well what is YOUR plan? Wow everyone has such great ideas hopefully I can add some of them to mine! I'm refocusing anger at my current situation to getting back my body. Not buying into any more gimmicks or fads thinking that it will be the answer. Working hard and pushing myself to get visible results, whether they're in the mirror or on a scale will motivate me and then I can keep going.
Are you going to follow one of the thousands of diet out there? Nope!
Are you going to make up your own? In a sense. Much as I hate it I'm on the Special K bit again since that has paid off in the past when transitioning to accurately measured portions. I'm not starving, and it's on target with my calorie intake and I HAVE to eat meals plus snacks (otherwise I'm starved) on this one so my metabolism does come back. After the next 2 weeks I'll be off the "diet" and will just focus on calorie counting and portions being accurately measured.
Are you going to exercise? Have been, but changing to 6 days alternating between gazelle and running intervals with some core stuff in house.
What new foods are you going to incorporate into your new lifestyle? More veggies, like mushrooms and asparagus etc. Cutting down on red meat and carbs as well.
What foods are you going to give up? chocolate, junk food.
Do you have a deadline or just keep going until you reach your goal? Dec 1st is my mini-deadline... going to see what I can do by then and after that I'm not backing down until I hit my goal. When I do, maintenance!!
Is your goal to live a healthier lifestyle? Yes and No. With my knee injury I added on a lot of weight despite being fairly healthy and eating low fat as it was so if I can correct the weight issues now then I think I'd be fine going back to a little more carbs here or there and not being so focused.
My plan is somewhat undefined..and maybe that's been my problem.
I do not believe in following diets...NONE! Think about it: DIE - ets...they aren't for living.
What I want to do is develop a balanced life, which means I eat to live, not live to eat.
I also what to honor the idea that I'm here for some other reason than sitting on my fanny...so moving is pretty good, too.
What I want to do deep down is to develop congruency between what I know to be good and "true" with what I actually do.
I have no "new" foods. I won't be giving up any foods, per se. ***What I will increasingly do is eat seasonal food that grows within 50 miles of my house. *** I'm am increasingly committed to the slow movement...and reading Barbara Kingsolver's "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" is very inspiring, too.
I'm in this process for life: from the many stories I've read about those who've lost and re-gained repeatedly, this is a fact...there is no such thing as a "diet." There can't be a definitive goal.
That said, by this time next year, I would like...
to be 20 pounds lighter;
to be able to walk/run 2 miles in 30 minutes straight;
to cllimb 10 flights of stairs (150 steps total) without stopping to gasp;
to attend some kind of group exercise class (Tai Chi, Yoga, Pilates, etc.) at least once a week;
to watch no more than 5 hours of TV or movies a week
Weight loss itself is not a goal for me...I need a better package all the way around. I figure if I'm better balanced in other areas of my life, the weight will come off on its own. Anyway, for me, I find that if I pay too much attention to the weight and not to other aspects of life, it just doesn't work.
If I'm missing something, don't hesitate to give me more clues! ![]()
Its funny if I tell myself that I am going on a diet, I notice I get more hungry. My plan is eating 1200 cals a day and rewarding myself on the weekends with a treat .
I have started my elliptical machine and due to my knees hurting so much I can only do about 15mins a day. I also walk around the neighborhood after dinner.
I have totally given up all soda and limited my sweet tea. I have been drinking lots of water and I did get some crystal lite that I really enjoy.
I am staying away from fried foods like all MCDONALDS...lol..I live in the south so everything is fried!
I am trying to watch my fat intake and carbs but some days are harder than others.
If anyone has some suggestions, feel free to share them with me.
Here's my plan to lose all the weight that has crept up on me over the past few years:
I am not going to follow a diet, but I am going to start watching my calorie intake and try to make better food choices. I need to add veggies and fruit into my daily meals, so that's my first goal. I am a member at the gym, but I haven't been there since May, and my other goal to get me started is to go to the gym at least 3 times a week. I am really going to try to give up fast food. I eat it often, and I know I shouldn't, so that will have to stop. I do not have a deadline, but I want to see a significant change by the beginning of 2009.
Well what is YOUR plan?
I'm 23, female and 4'11". I weighed 164 pounds when I started to diet roughly 2 weeks ago and I weighed in today at 152. According to C-C I should get down to 108 by next August, but I don't see myself being that small. I'd be pretty happy with 120, as the last time I weighed that much I was a size 6 and looked thin enough.
Are you going to follow one of the thousands of diet out there? I have had success on weight watchers before but I don't have time to go to all the meetings. I do like their points system, but since re-starting my diet I found I was shorting myself on protien, so I'm using a modified points system I guess. Mainly, I try to get in 5 servings of vegetables, 1 serving of fruit, 125g Carbs, 50g Protien and 20g Fat while drinking 8-12 cups of water and keeping my calories below 1200.
Are you going to exercise?
I used to run a lot in high school, but have found it to be too difficult for right now. I have been doing a walk/jog combo after work for about an hour (5 days a week) and go on my parents stationary bike 2 days a week for an hour.
What new foods are you going to incorporate into your new lifestyle? I'm trying to focus on water, vegetables and protien. I'm not really a vegetarian, but currently I'm not eating any beef or poultry, so its difficult to get enough protien.
What foods are you going to give up? Soda, Ice Cream, Pizza for now - but I'll probably take that back in moderation once I lose my first 10% (just 4 pounds to go!)
Do you have a deadline or just keep going until you reach your goal? Obviously the sooner I lose the weight the better, but I have no real date set. I focus on the weight in smaller sections of 10% at a time so that every goal is reachable in a short period of time and I don't lose interest. The first goal was 16 pounds and thats almost done, which will put me at 148, so the next goal will be 14 pounds until I find a weight that I'm happy with.
Is your goal to live a healthier lifestyle? Yes, my entire family is extremely overweight so I'm fighting an uphill battle; plus there is a strong trend of heart attacks very young - 40s and 50s - that I want to avoid.
Well what is YOUR plan?
My calorie count goal is currently at 1650. I just started yesterday and I was not able to stay under. So my current goal is to do better. Make wiser choices than I did yesterday. So far today, good.
Are you going to follow one of the thousands of diet out there?
I have been on many diets. My favorite was fasting which scared me. My current plan is to eat healthier and exercise regularly. I need to do weight training. I have relied on my genes in regards to my strength, but now that I am in my 40’s I can feel that I need to strengthen and tone.
Are you going to exercise?
I walk everyday with my dog. A couple of years ago, I was swimming 3 times a week and I need to get back to that. Making time has been my obstacle.
What new foods are you going to incorporate into your new lifestyle?
I'm trying to focus on vegetables and fruits. I clearly do not eat enough of them.
What foods are you going to give up?
Ice Cream. I do not seem to have any control over me and ice cream.
Do you have a deadline or just keep going until you reach your goal?
I am an expert at loosing weight. I want to keep it off this time, so I am focused on changing things rather than time frames. I am 184 today. I would like to weight 137-140 and stay there.
Is your goal to live a healthier lifestyle?
Yes. My father became a juvenile diabetic when he was 62 years old. I would like to not follow his footsteps into diabetes.
I just started the weight lifting plan from the book The New Rules of lifting for women. I did my first workout yesterday and am sore today, so I guess it's working. The book outlines an eating plan too, I'm going to stick with the calorie count that the author suggests for my height, weight, age, BMI, etc.(1900 -2000 on workout days) which is A LOT higher then any other diet I've ever been on. We'll see how that works for me I can always adjust if I'm not getting the results I want. I'm adding more protien to my diet as per the book but for the most part I'm going to stick to lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains and low GI carbs, lean sources of protein and healthy fats. Trying to cut out sugar and High GI carbs as much as possible. I'm a total sugar addict, if I have a little bit I can't stop.
I did my first Triathlon on September 21st and am already scheduled to do a second one in July 2009. My plan is to do mostly weightlifting until Fedruary to build muscle but also swim, bike & run one day each a week to keep in triathlon shape. Then in February Flip it so I'm weight lifting once a week and swimming, biking and running 2-3 times a week each to get ready for the race in July.
I love exercising and being active, for me the challenge will be sticking to my healthy eating plan and staying within my calorie range. My goal is to lose 18lbs by Thanksgiving and another 20lbs to be at my goal weight by my birthday in March.
Hi there. I'm not new to Calorie Count, but I just decided to join the group. I guess I don't have an actual weight loss goal in terms of what I want my weight to be, but I joined this group because I thought it would be a good one to help me get my blood pressure down to a safer level. My doctor said that 25 pounds would be a safe number for me, but really, I need to get my BP down about 20 points (for both the systolic and diastolic). I am only 29 years old, and I take two different medications for my BP. The combination works well, but ideally, I would rather be able to get my BP down with good nutrition and a good exercise plan. I am a fairly active person with bad genes. Both my maternal and paternal families have a history of hypertension and stroke. My cousin, who is a triple-black belt in Tae Kwon Do, started taking BP medication by the time he was 30.
So to answer the group questions:
Are you going to follow one of the thousands of diet out there? No, I won't as I don't really like fads.
Are you going to make up your own? I guess, but largely my husband and I don't find this too challenging as we both love to cook relatively healthy foods (fatty fishy, dark leafy greens, and whole grains).
Are you going to exercise? Yes, I walk to work, weight lift, do pilates, ballroom dance, bike ride, ski, hike, and also use an elliptical machine when at a gym.
What new foods are you going to incorporate into your new lifestyle? Nothing new, but we are making sure to include more foods rich in vitamins and minerals to make sure it's complete. I would like to start cooking some more of the foods that my friends make when I am a dinner guest (quinoa and braising greens!).
What foods are you going to give up? White grains (rice, bread, etc) when possible. Instead of giving up foods, we tend to reduce portion sizes of not so healthy foods and choose only the kids we really love. I would rather not waste calories eating a nasty Hershey bar but instead have only a bite of a really dark and bitter (and high class!) type of chocolate. Or instead of eating a whole cup of crappy ice cream, I'd rather eat only one scoop of Haagen-Daaz once a week or something like that.
Do you have a deadline or just keep going until you reach your goal? Largely, I would like it such that I can go off medication within a year or so as we would like to have children, and I want to get this under control before trying to conceive.
Is your goal to live a healthier lifestyle? Of course!
Hi, I'm Tiffany- 28yrs old--married w/ 6 yr old twin daughters. Back on after being off for a while. Currently 5"9, 191 lbs. Happy with myself but would feel even better slimmer and toned. Here I go again-
Are you going to follow one of the thousands of diet out there? I hate diets. I DISPISE the word diet.
Are you going to make up your own? Yes, I'm going to cut out certain items, but pretty much eat what I want using moderation and portion control. On days when I don't eat so well, I will exercise harder and longer to make up for it.
Are you going to exercise? Yes, I've started this week out by doing 30-45 min per day of walking or a FIT TV workout. I plan to progress to doing 1 hr workouts at least 5 times a week. I like to switch up my workouts (Dancing, SlimN6 DVD, TaeBo, Pilates, Yoga, anything) so I don't get bored. I hate running, but I plan to try and build endurance for it by doing 45 min walk/run intervals at least twice a week.
What new foods are you going to incorporate into your new lifestyle? ----
What foods are you going to give up? So far fried food, bread, potatoes, regular soda... I'll probably add something else as I go along.
Do you have a deadline or just keep going until you reach your goal? I'd especially like to lose 10 lbs by 11/1- after that I'll just keep going.
Is your goal to live a healthier lifestyle? Yes and to look 23 when I turn 30. Then look 30 when I'm 45 and 40 when I'm 50 and you get the picture...
Well what is YOUR plan? to not get frustrated
Are you going to follow one of the thousands of diet out there? Nope, I have been on this calorie count diet before and I actually like it.
Are you going to make up your own? I guess so. I read about all the ladies who are eating 1400 calories perday and I congratulate you on your determination. I weigh 234 pounds. Not proud of it but with my weight so high I have decided to start my calories out at 2000 per day. As my weight lowers I will need to lower my calories. My goal is 50 lbs less. but as of feb i need to be down 23 pounds.
Are you going to exercise?Yes I am. I love to run 5K's. I have gotten out of it so I started adding jogging to my walking and I do it three times per week. I want to add bike riding for 1 more day per week.
What new foods are you going to incorporate into your new lifestyle?I need to put the good foods back in my diet. I love fruits and vegetables. Being a paramedic has cuased me find fast food at 3am. Did you know walgreens pharmacy carries so much food?
What foods are you going to give up? I live in New Orleans, and I love food. I think that going out to dinner at fast food restaurants will be a start and the good resturaunts like GW Fins will be for special occassions. I don't mean hay it's a friday type special.
Do you have a deadline or just keep going until you reach your goal?
Is your goal to live a healthier lifestyle? Yes it is. It isn't super difficulat and adding things slowly will help me to stick to my plan.
Good Luck with your plans and don't get discouraged.
I am 4' 11", I started at 168 lbs back in May, since then I have lost 37 lbs of it, losing an average of 1-2 lbs a week. My 'ideal' goal would be 105 lbs, but I would be satisfied with 115 lbs. So, that makes it between 16-26 lbs.
I am following DASH diets for my bp, heavy on veggie and fruit, with a little of everything else. I used to watch how many carbs I take in a day, but I tend to go over my daily set goal (1300) because of DASH guideline. So, now I just followed the guidelines.
Main differences in diet are more whole grain, fresh fruit and veggie (2 servings daily would be fresh), more than half my sodium intake and tons of water. So, far, even if I skip exercise for a week or two, I still find myself losing some weight.
Exercise: Swimming, jogging, step class, water aerobic, turbokick weekly. Pump class 3x a week or sometimes I'll mix with lifting of my own.
I started this journey to decrease my bp naturally instead of taking medication. So far I lost 30 points with some weight loss as a side bonus. I feel healthier and stronger. I am definitely liking the new me.
Well what is YOUR plan?
My plan is to learn portion control. I have been yo-yo dieting for about the last year, and every diet I've tried has been unsuccessful mainly because they didn't practice portion control.
Are you going to follow one of the thousands of diet out there?
Mainly I'm doing slim-fast, only because it isn't very expensive and is pretty easy to follow compared to other diets I have been on. Once I am comfortable with portion control, I'll turn the slim fast shakes into small meals. I want to shrink my stomach and feel full on the right amount of food instead of eating until I'm stuffed.
Are you going to exercise?
I work all the time with two jobs and I'm a full-time college student as well, so free time is very limited, but I have taken to walking a lot more than I used to, and spend my 1 day off at the track. I'm hoping to get back to my elliptical machine and weight bench when it starts to get too cold to be outside.
What new foods are you going to incorporate into your new lifestyle?
I tried the raw food diet (raw fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, and sprouted grains), and stuck with it for about 2 months before getting tired of being cold all the time, so I'll eat just about any kind of fruit and veggie. I love finding new kinds of fruits and trying them out.
What foods are you going to give up?
Mainly ice cream, doughnuts, and fast food. I don't 'deny' myself anything, but I just watch where my calories are coming from. If I crave sweets, I might have a peach or an orange. If I crave ice cream, I mix ice in with my slim fast shake in the blender and it reminds me of a milk shake from McDonalds. I have Boca Burgers instead of McDonalds as well, and instead of a Snickers bar, I have a slim fast chocolate-peanut-caramel bar instead. I don't feel deprived, though there have been times when I feel like I'm really hungry. In reality it wasn't hunger, but boredom.
Do you have a deadline or just keep going until you reach your goal?
I don't have a deadline, but I would like to reach my goal as soon as possible. I just don't want to overdo anything. I have a bad habit of getting frustrated and giving up before I really gave the diet a try, or going to extremes (like the fasting). I want this to be a lifestyle change-not just a diet. I lived off of small portions when I was in my teens and twenties and was healthy, and I want to be that way again!
Is your goal to live a healthier lifestyle?
Yes, this has been a year of changes for me. I quit smoking, and now I want to get healthy and lose the weight I've gained. I want to be comfortable with my body and happy. I want to finish school and get a better job. I just have to remember that everything takes time. I cannot rush through life and expect to achieve everything I want to achieve within a month or two.
Well what is YOUR plan? my plan is to reduce the amount of carbs, sugar, and salt that i consume, workout at least 4 times a week, and start incorporating strength training to tone
Are you going to follow one of the thousands of diet out there? no, i have enough trouble sticking to set calorie limit each day. i think i may try the calorie shifting because it at least gives me different amounts for each day
Are you going to make up your own? yes
Are you going to exercise? yes, 4 days of jogging/kickboxing and weights 2x per week
What new foods are you going to incorporate into your new lifestyle? i thinking of trying V8 because i have a problem getting my daily recommended servings of veggies
What foods are you going to give up? cut back on fast food definately
Do you have a deadline or just keep going until you reach your goal? i don't have a deadline but i guess 1 lb a week would be good eventually until i lose about 20 or 25 lbs
Is your goal to live a healthier lifestyle? absolutely
