Started at the gym this week, overtraining already?
Ok, so I started at the gym this week. I started on Monday (15th)and get there around 6:15 am. I am 41, 5'5" 173.5 lbs and I have a tendency to always go overboard and I may be doing it now. So, please tell me if this is too much...
I get to the gym which is 90,000 sq ft on 7 different floors.
1st I climb seven flights of stairs (which 'bout does me in)to the track and bikes. I ride the aerodyne for 20 mins. Then I walk 2-3 laps on the track to cool down a little.
Next I go down to the fourth floor and do ab work and 3 circuits in the circuit training room. This is very intense and I exhaust my muscles pretty good doing this.
After the circuits I go back to first floor and change to swim suit and swim about 1/2 a mile give or take.
Finally, I go sit in the sauna for about 15 mins.
I have done this everyday this week.
Here is what I think is odd. I am not in any pain! My muscles are not the least bit sore! What the heck is up with that? From previous experience if I worked out this hard I would be so sore I could barely move!
Please don't get me wrong I am not complaining about not being sore because that is what I hate the absolute most about working out. I am just very curious as to why I am not.
Ya think it could be the sauna? Anyway, sorry to digress... So am I doing too much? I don't want to start out overtraining. I am currently getting 1100-1200 calories a day and before you tell me that is not enough... it is double what I was getting 2 weeks ago and I try to add a little more everyday. I am just not used to eating so much and I have to break that in like I am the exercising. I am getting A's and B's for a daily score on what I am eating. I love all food (except stewed tomatoes) so this is not hard. Actually it is now fun to go to the store and see what I can eat.

Well thomolli, I would guess that if your not feeling sore you must be doing something right. I just added 20-30 minutes to my weight lifting routine and not a sore muscle to show for it. I really think a good warm-up and cool-down are keys for keeping muscles happy. My PT told me that I dont need to hurt to do good and just because I dont hurt doesnt mean I didnt do enough. Just be sure to give your muscles time to recover from a lot of exercise by taking a day off once a week.
For weights you should only work one body part every other day to give muscles chance to rebuild. That would be my only concern with your routine. Also maybe up the weight you may be doing too light weights and your body can handle more.
