just started--hate to exercise

Quote  |  Reply

i just got started--have lost 1.5lbs.  I am counting calories.  Last year I lost 50lbs by counting calories and riding my bike about 50-65 miles a week.  That is very time consuming, while I enjoy it, I don't have that kind of time.  I am trying to get about 35-40gr of fiber each day.  Part of that is by using benefiber--do you think that is ok?

DH is also doing this--he runs, but because I have so much weight to lose, and I have a pronated foot, it is hard for me to walk or run.  I know I need to move, but I have absolutely no energy.  Can someone give me some advice, or encourage me?

For me, its a lot easier to excersize in the evenings than during the day, because it drains me so much. So try scheduling time to work out when most of your activities that you need to do during the day are done, so you can devote all the energy you have left to excersizing.

And when I feel like I don't have enough energy to get moving, I put on my favorite music. That actually makes my workout a treat because I have so much fun listening to my favorite CD! Just find a way to make it enjoyable for YOU. That way you won't dread it, you'll actually look forward to it.

not sure what a pronated foot is, but there are so many different things you can do that if you keep searching maybe you will find something you enjoy.  You have to like it or it's hard to keep it up.  What about swimming at the Y or a gym?  What about other equipment at a gym?  Even yoga is beneficial, which I didn't know until recently.
HIIT (high intensity interval training) or some other form of interval training will be better for burning fat and will also take less time.

what is HIIT floggingsully I hate to exercize too!!!!

Welcome ddparker got your message today and added you as a buddy> We can do this yes we can!!!Laughing

Its funny because back in september when i started excercising i dreaded it...and now if i miss a day ...im bummed...i actually like it now...the endorphins give me that feel good feeling and when you see how strong you get it is even more motivating...we all have our off days...but just gotta do it...ive made it a job for me...its a requirement...fun music is the best like the previous poster said for motivation and trying different things...i do everything from running to kickboxing to spinning to weights..hiking...playing tag with the kids lifting weights..just gotta start somewhere...I had really bad back issues when i started and now that im down 45 lbs they are gone....when i started i couldnt run a block...now i run at least 2 miles at least 3 times a week...and if i can do that anyone can...and i did it with the interval training like one of the previous posters was saying....i just started walking and adding little bouts of jogging then running then the bouts got longer until i could finally run the whole time... it will be hard at first but just work your way through it. Maybe the elliptical at the gym or stair master....you can do it!

Have you considered a good quality indoor cycling machine?  If you enjoy riding, maybe you could set up a room with no other distractions and put on a movie.  Watch 30 mins or so, turn it off, come back to see the rest of the movie but you have to use your cycle.   I do not love exercising, even though I am glad I did when I'm finished.  I send myself downstairs.  I have a cross stitch I'm almost finished with.  Took me a year to do.  Cross stitching keeps me away from the kitchen!  I say "not another stitch until I go down and exercise"..  or if I get stuck in a movie I turn it off and say "if I want to finish this movie, I have to get my exercise in first"  It's a gentle persuasion that works for me.

I don't know much if anything about Benefiber, but if you are working on getting your required daily amount of fiber - and using it, well, that's what it's for!

Good luck!
