for the plateau-did you try going off your diet for 2 days (maintenance calories) &kicking up your workout routine? it REALLY does wonders..
I think so far they are great! I need the emotional support, and they are definitely giving that to me. I already lost a lot of weight but I have irrational fears now about gaining it all back overnight if I miss an exercise day and so forth. I am hoping they can help me think realistically as well as lose the weight. :D
I have to lose the last 30lbs before June. I so hope I can do it
yeah I did all that stuff.. in fact I did it all. I stopped the exercise for a few days, even a week when i got the stomach flu, changed my routine and kicked up calories, yada yada. Nuthin.
Its been a few months now, It was time for the big guns :)

Since this plateau of mine for the last 30lbs does not want to budge, I have called in the professionals! :)

I've never tried Jenny Craig, but I'm in the same boat as you. I lost 47 pounds in the first 6-7 months of 2007. By December, I hadn't lost anything since July and I decided to take the month off. I enjoyed my month off (only gained 6 pounds) and now I'm back to counting calories. I'm hoping the month off will have kick-started things for me, but if not, my doctor and I are going to have a chat about what a reasonable weight for me is, especially if my body doesn't seem to want to lose anymore. Good luck - let us know how Jenny Craig works for you.
So can you share what they said about the plateau?!?! I have been stuck myself..since June. I just cannot afford to pay for a program :(
Good Luck !
They didn't say what was causing the plateau because I was doing everything I could on my own. But at the very least, they are helping me find what will take to kick it.
I was eating 1600 calories a day, and now am down to 1500 on their program. So far I like it. :-) And after I hit half way weight they wean me off the program and onto my own food, so its really a good plan.
hi gracie,
good luck to you. add me as a friend if you want to chat. i lost 10lbs on my own last summer and hit a plateau. a girl at work, and her husband, were going on jenny craig. i said, "hey can i join too?" and it was great doing it together. i lost 15lbs on it. it sure worked for me. you don't lose fast but it works. they DO teach you portion control. i was tout to put their food on my own plate at home so i can get a "feel" for potion sizes. as it were, i used the medium sized plates at our house. you know you have the big dinner plate, the next size and then the little dessert plate? i was on 1,200 calories per day. i learned i was not eating ENOUGH and at the right times so i was wreaking havak on my body. i didn't eat breakfast ever thinking i would save up the calories for before dinner when i was actually hungry. i was never hungry in the am. still am not but do i eat breakfast? hell ya! i am no longer famished just before dinner. i also learned that sugar and sweats puts my blood sugar levels so bad it makes me tired after work. i would crash about 4pm! i know these things to be true because when i went off of the jenny plan and decided to let myself splurge a little over the holidays, the crashes came back and when i thought about it, i didn't have any the whole time on jenny.
as far as the food getting boring. ya it did after a while. i was glad i only signed up for the 3 month plan and not the lifetime membership they tried to talk me into. they said you can always come back and do the 3 month again they run these promotions all the time. i have only 10-15 lbs left so i am trying it her first. if i don't lose, i will head back to jenny for 3 months to be sure.
and as far as the food goes, you can get breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. OR you can do only dinners, only lunch. whatever. they are not pushy just want you to succeed. i bought their lunches and dinners and had oatmeal and applesause and a latte for breakfast and did fruit and the 100 calorie prepackaged treats for a snack. way cheaper.
good luck,
kat

Well, first the fact that it took this long for my body to plateau after 70lbs is really good. So that was encouraging, because it usually happens alot sooner. Hi - just put this 'insert' here because the plateau usually comes when it's time to reduce the daily calories, since you're probably exercising (assuming that you are) at capacity. To help get 'past' that plateau, drop to 1200 calories a day, and try to add 15 minutes of walking and 3 to 5 minutes of weight-training (2# weights are plenty).
What happens is your body likes to store a 'reserve' fat (particularly over the age of 40), because it understands the need for this 'reserve' should you become ill; encounter some type of disease that could be invasive, and potentially need the stored fat as a source of nourishment.
If you're counting your 'burn' accurately, each and every day (using the counter they provide on this site), you might be as surprised as I was, that not every day did I actually burn the calories I needed to in order to keep with the reduction process. Likewise, the food consumed has to be 'dead-on' as it relates to grams/calories. Again, it's easy to 'slip up', and forget to enter something you ate or drank that day, and this compounds the problem.
I noticed the date of your post; figure this is so 'recent', you might like as much insight from others as you can get, since you've accomplished so much (and have a June date for accomplishment). I calculated out the same time-line for me, and it takes about 1115/calories a day to accomplish your final 30# loss if your activity is light. You can 'boost' that by adding to your walking or other forms of exercise that doesn't have to be as strenuous, as it is at least 15 minutes or more. Good Luck
