hey, listen I only started up here about mid Nov. have'nt lost according to the scale anyway, not very much weight at all...and I've had the same problem as you... but watching mostly not what I eat but HOW MUCH i eat little things cut out pop and junk...I excercise more which I hate, but the more you stick to your guns and your clothes start feeling a little baggy, my stamina is way better than before and overall just feeling better. And coming to this site every day for the motivation, is huge when it comes to not giving up try it for a few weeks, really stick to your guns I bet before long you'll be addicted. If I can do it you can do it..people keep saying to me ohh bad time of the year to be dieting isn't it, I just keep telling them I'm not dieting but changing my lifestyle being aware of the things and habit that made me this way in the first place and make them go away... anyway don't be discouraged you'll find a lot of people here feel them same.

You can do it!
Lyndy,

Congratulations for finding this site, and taking on the challenge to get healthy.  I will let you know how I began my own journey.  You have to start out gradually.  Here is how I began...

The first thing to do is cut out 'invisible' calories.  This is what I started by cutting:

  • Sugared pop
  • Juice
  • Butter/margarine
  • Cream sauces
  • Mayonnaise
  • Sugar (ie: in coffee, on cereal, etc)
  • Full fat cheese (by itself, or on sandwiches, burgers, etc)
Try this, and you will be on your way to a healthier lifestyle!  Best of luck.
Hello! welcome to CC!
A great place to get info and whatnot and start a better lifestyle! I'd certainly be lost without it! (why didn't they teach us this stuff in school?)

You can do it!

Theres a over 100 to lose club you could join, and several weigh-in clubs, one on monday, one wednesday (called the biggest loser competition) and I think one on friday. I suggest joining one to keep on track.

Also, everyone here is really supportive and we're all going through the same thing, just about, so you don't have to worry about other people judging you. so its a very comfortable environment.
Hope you love CC as much as I do! ^_^

i have tried at least 8 million times and just give up each time.

It wasn't until I clicked on your profile that this took on a whole other level of significance.  Since you have been signed up for a year, maybe not logging the whole time, is there something specific support-wise that you feel is missing?  It must be scary to feel you have to do this with a health condition hanging over your head.

Hi Lindy,

I am also relatively new to this site, and like you, have over 150lb to loose. I think anyone who is our size has some health issues, but for me, the biggest thorn is infertility. I understand how hard this is to take that step to commitment, and I would love it if we could help each other. Please feel free to add me as a friend, and read through my journal, it will give you some idea, of how my last 9days have gone. Im still here, and really making an effort.
BTW have a read through the many ways you can burn those calories you consume... some will make you giggle...
I threw together a post a while back with all the little things I learned when I first started. You are more than welcome to check it out.

One thing that might make it easier is to focus on one smaller goal at a time. For example, losing 10% of your current body weight could be your first goal, and this is enough to give you significantly health benefits! Celebrate the milestones along the way, and when you reach one, say so here! We love to celebrate, too. :-)

Most people find changing everything difficult to stick to for the long term; I know I do. So changing things one by one, as shayna suggested, is usually the better way to go. Start with something you KNOW you can do. For me, it was giving up a caloric beverage at lunch; in fact, that was part of a New Year's resolution for me. My resolution was to make one change a month for health. Didn't matter what it was, and didn't matter whether I stayed with it over the long-term -- I simply had to TRY one new thing a month to see if I could get a better habit to stick.

Once I was successful with one thing -- giving up that caloric lunch beverage, which was a small but easy change to make -- it made it easier to make another small change, and then another, and another, and.... so on. I also didn't (and don't now) focus on a "perfect" weight. I wanted my knees to not hurt (especially at night!), so I decided I would give myself, and my aching knees, the present of 50 fewer calories by my 50th birthday. Sure, I could have stood at the time to lose more than that, but I knew that losing 50 pounds would help a lot.

My knees stopped hurting at night about 25 pounds ago.

Small changes. Pick one and try it out. If it's something you can do long-term, can adopt as a new habit, great! If not, don't beat yourself up and move on to something else, some other change that WILL work for you. They are out there! Find them, make them, and better health will follow. You CAN do this!
I had 150 pounds to lose, now I have 130....my best advise to you is do not give up.  I know you can do it. We all can.
Lyndy....

Glad you posted.  You will find all sort of support here.

One step at a time.  One change at a time, will not only make you mentally feel better, but also Healthy feel better.

Weight loss is a long journey.  Ups and Downs.  My biggest advice is to start and if you slip, dust off and carry on.

This site has so many great people and great posts.

If you have questions, ask away.

Good Luck.

Now go get a drink of water :)
Thanks for the response. First time I actually had any positive response from anything I signed for. I usually just get lost in the shuffle . Thanks again .

Welcome back to C- C  Lindy!

Take one day at a time.. I think that's what makes a plan hard to stick with.  The more you are around here you will see that people have good days and people have not so good of days.. Over the last year I guess the most important thing I have learned is if I had a bad day jump back up on the wagon.
Check out the recipe analyzer.  Favorites are listed and there are some limited search capabilities for recipes.  You can also browse by meal on the upper left.  I have inputted several recipes by the American Diabetes Association.  You can also put general search terms like chicken or beef into the search bar way up top.  It defaults to Foods, then just move the dropdown box to Recipes and hit "search" again.

Here are the tagged items I use in the analyzer.  Just click on the ones you want and tag them to "make them yours."  I was hoping that would cut down on searching for ingredients.

Other tips as a person with a lot left to loose:
1) I was very, very hungry at first because I was eating only 17-19% fat.  I believe it was ix who told me to bump it up to 25-30% to feel less hungry, and that worked.

2) After stalling at a weight, I have found that tracking net calories (food calories minus activity calories) has been useful in restarting a slow loss.  Don't go crazy tracking every little activity, but sleep, computer time, walks, television, cleaning.  Well, I was quite surprised at how they all added up.  Shoot for a 500-1000 calorie deficit each day.  That will make it 1-2 lbs a week weight loss  unless your doctor has told you to drop the weight faster due to your medical problems.
