just getting started and would love so support!

hello!

my name is melissa. i am starting this tonight so i have no excuses tomorrow. tomorrow i am starting a new and healthy lifestyle for myself and my family.

i have a wonderful, loving, and supportive husband of 5 years and 2 beautiful children. my son is 2 1/2 and my daughter is going to be 1 very shortly. since i weaned her at 9 mo. i have been starting and stopping exercising and diets. but i am tired of that! so i joined for some accountability and encouragement to help me stay on track.

i have never been thin, i was about 180lbs size 14 all through high school and when i got married. however, when i became pregnant with my son i started gaining. i went from pregnant to nursing, to pregnant while nursing, to pregnant  and then nursing some more. through all of that i have gained 86lbs in about 3ish years. that is a lot! so right now i weigh in at 266lbs size 18.

so with God's help and your encouragement i am hoping to meet or even exceed my goal of losing 116lbs in a 1 1/2 years.  which is about 6.5lbs a month.

'i can do all things through Christ who strengthens me' phil 4:13

god bless you - melissa

Welcome!

It's great that you're making this decision to be healthier.  CC has some great tools to help you get on the path, and the forums are a good place to reach out to others.

Depending how drastic your new calorie goal is, look for day 2 or 3 to be the hardest.  So I would recommend planning ahead with some good, filling snacks to get you through the day.

Good luck!

Hi,

We have quite similar stories.  I am also a new mother.  My son just turned 1 last month.  I have a husband and 3 step daughters.  They are all great but I am busy at work and at home.  I really want to lose weight and be healthy but lack commitment to a diet beyond the 2nd or 3rd day.  Maybe we can support each other in this journey!  It's nice to have someone in the same spot as me, going through similar struggles.  I just joined today.  I found this tool and I think it is something that I can work with.

Best of luck to you!

Sharik and Melissa,

I think George has a good idea.  If the 2nd and 3rd day are hard to pass for you, be a little easier on yourself until you get passed them.  Give yourself a couple of 100 calorie snacks to get you through.  Go to be early so you won't be tempted to that late night eating.

Religiously/faithfully keep your food log so you can see where you are having problems, or doing your best.  You can see your total calories and total burn on your home page.  Remember that to lose 1 lb. a week you have to burn 500 more calories a day than you take in.  also don't forget about weight shifts that have nothing to do with fat burning, such as muscle building and water shifts.

Come here when you need to talk or have a celebration, we can crow and cry together.

I'm so exicted to read your post.  Your story is very similar to mine.  I, too, am new here and I was heavy all through high school and college.  I've been married five years and have a 3-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old daughter.  I really want to lose this weight so that I will know I can be there for them.  I started at 256 2 weeks ago and was at 245 on Monday.  So far I think it's a great site with REALLY helpful information.

Good luck!

Christina
