I started with metformin
I was told I had PCOS as well. I started with metformin 3xs a day because I'd missed a period. Now I have pretty regular periods but have not been able to conceive. Dr put me on metformin Er 500mg 2 in the morning and 2 at night. Four months now and periods still regular but still not pregnant. Any ideas?
it might take your body awhile to adjust to becoming healthy again. if no pregnancy in one year get a referal to a fertility clinic. i conceived both my boys that way. good luck:)
Firstly, regardless of the PCOS, going four months without conception isn't unusual. It can take quite some time to get pregnant.
Secondly, are you doing any kind of charting to find out on which day you ovulate? Basal body temps, ovulation tests?
ETA: When I looked up PCOS on Wikipedia, I found this under the "Treatment" section:
When [medication is] combined with exercise and a low glycemic index diet up to 85% will improve menstrual cycle regularity and ovulation within about six months.
Also, there is a large section titled "Treatment of Infertility" which has some good info in it.
This may seem like an awful question, but has your husband been tested? If you are having regular periods, you are probably ovulating again. My husband and I tried for a year and a half and finally saw a fertility specialist. Turns out, despite PCOS, my body was working ok (I am on 1000-1500mg metformin ER), but my husband needed to see a urologist. I know how hard it is to have PCOS and be trying for a baby and have it continually not work. But, it might not be you and it may be fixable for him.
If it is not him, try this book: TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR FERTILITY (10th Anniversary Edition). Copyright © 2006 by Toni Weschler. It is one of the best to determine your exact time of ovulation. It may take more than a couple of cycles, but it should help! Don't give up! :-)
I have PCOS and I am currently 33 weeks pregnant. It took years of trying. My endocrinologist chose not to put me on Metformin. Instead, she put me on clomid. When clomid alone didn't work, I did clomid with menopur and HCG injections. It took about 4 months on the injections with no luck. I took a break and the next month I was pregnant. Since I knew for sure that I didn't ovulate on my own, I am pretty certain that the hormones kicked something in for my body. See a true fertility specialist and good luck to you!
