Started a part time job for fun..heavy work load, how many calories burned?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone,

I started a part time job for extra fun money and I work in a fast paced Walmart Deli. I am working fast & furious. I am used to weight lifting and being very active at home normally. My question..how many calories do you think I burn an hour? Can't find it on the burn meter. It is quite a workout at work!

Thanks a bunch!

nobody knows. how would we? just estimate.

Maybe you could look under "housework" in the Activities section.  They have a range of housework-type duties from light dusting to heavier work.  You might find something that's similar to your new job duties. My "guess-timate" would be something in the range of 350-450 calories/hour - kinda like fast walking.

I think they've got bartending or waitressing in the activities - maybe log it as that - on your feet, lots of short movements - I think it could be close.

edit: Hmm. Just looked up bartending, and found it under

Calories burned with Standing; Light

Bartending, Store Clerk, Assembling, Filing, Duplicating, Putting Up a Christmas Tree, Standing and Talking At Work, Changing Clothes When Teaching Physical Education

That sounds lighter than what you'd be doing.

Also, what the heck does "changing clothes when teaching physical education" mean? What gym teacher changes the students' clothes? Or is it when you the teacher are changing your own clothes. In which case, how is that different from changing clothes for any other purpose? Sorry - off topic. But really, who thought of including that in the list??

Thank you! Still laughing about the changing clothes thing...I had looked at bakery moderate which is 322 cal. per hour but I work next to the bakery & they don't have to walk, cook or do anything near what we do in the Deli..which is not a slam, it's just the way it's laid out. I am in good shape as far as endurance so I know I am burning some calories when I'm working plus the fact I have to walk fast to the other end of a huge store to clock in, breaks, lunch, etc. I'm not complaining AT ALL..I love it & look at it as Calories Burned & a great change up to my usual active lifestyle.  Thank you & I will change my activity thing -a -ma-jigg to bartending or heavy housework or skydiving or something.

Should I add the clothes changing like amethystgirl said? LMAO!!
