Hi, I started CC on the 18th. I haven't lost anything yet but my goal is 25lbs. I am 5'10" and currently 180lbs, I'd like to be around 155lbs before June. Would anyone like to join my group so we can help each other stay motivated???

Thanks! We are all doing so well!  I have been drinking alot of water to avoid water retention, so some of that 5lbs might be from that.  hehe.

Can i ask everyone's advice?? I am 5ft 6 and 182lbs, aiming for 152. I have a med to large frame. I'm pretty active, 40mins of cardio about five times a week plus i walk everywhere. My cal meter says i should be eating 1650, but does anyone think this is a little high???

I've read that your body need 11 calories per pound. So basically you take your goal weight and multiply it by 11. That comes out to 1,672 per day. So I guess that's about right. I've wondered myself though because I was really hoping for more dramatic results seeing as how I've cut an absolute minimum of 500 calories per day and added 20 minutes of cardio every day. Yipes - I thought it would be falling off.

Having said that, my target calories per day (from this site) is 1500 - and sometimes I eat that but more often than not, at the end of the day I'm somewhere between 1200 and 1300 and I call it good if I'm not super hungry.

 

Coffee: I am 5'4" and 148 lbs. (well now 145) and my target calories for this site said 1600 calories a day and I also thought that was high.  Like Sparker, I usually end up at about 1200-1400 calories a day.  I'm still really hungry but I'm trying to get used to the feeling, fight it and hope it'll change eventually.

I've read a ton of posts on this site about this. One of the main things they always say is do NOT have less than your recommended calories per day in order to lose the weight. If you have less, your body goes into starvation mode and you get the opposite of what you want. They say that especially if you are working out as well, you should be calculating how many calories you burn when you work out and adding that to your daily recommended amt. of calories. So if you worked out and burned 200 calories and your recommended calories for the day was 1600, you should be consuming at least 1800 calories to be sure that you still lose weight...I'm not a doctor or nutritionlist, this is just what I've read on this site. :-)
I feel very positive having some like minded people to share the journey with!! Its great to have people to bounce ideas and questions off, and it will be very exciting to hear people's journeys to their goal weights. For the first time in a while i really believe i can do this!!

Shea-Yes, I agree that you can cause your body to go into starvation mode by not having enough calories, but I have read you do need to create a calorie deficit in order to lose weight.  One pound is 3500 calories so you would need to create a deficit of 500 calories a day to lose a pound in a week.  For example my burn meter says I burn about 1900 calories a day without additional exercise.  My daily recommended calories are 1600.  The calorie deficit is only 300.  This past week I haven't been able to exercise so I have only eaten about 1200-1400 calories per day creating a deficit of 500-700 calories per day.  Of course when I exercise I will add back the calories burned.  I've read on this site that a 500-750 calorie deficit is safe but to never go over a 1000 calorie deficit and never eat less than 1200 calories.

I hope I'm understanding this correctly, I've read A LOT of posts on this site related to this topic trying to understand what to do.  Please correct me if I'm wrong because I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing too!  Well, I'm off to the gym (for the first time since last Tues.)  I have such a hard time finding the time to excercise due to work, kids, etc.

Morning ladies,

A bit of advice needed. Its my son, Carmelo's first birthday tomorrow and mothers day too so i am going out for lunch. I usually only have one big meal on sundays as we go to my boyfriends parents for lunch, so tomorrow will be just the one bigger meal with wine and birthday cake!! I am going to make the wisest food choices possible and do an extra workout in the morning to help, but i was wondering if i should lower my calorie intake by a couple of hundred today to help compensate. Maybe then my total cals for the week will be about right. Any thoughts??? Or is cutting down today going to put me in starvation mode tomorrow??? So confusing!!!!!

I would be careful not to go below 1200 calories today.
Thanks shea, i decided afterwards to just eat as normal today, and enjoy tomorrow without going over board! Its only one day after all and monday i'll be right back on. I figured the extra workout will help!
Okay, I have to brag, I finally lost 2 whole lbs!!!!!! Yeay for me!!!!
