Starting again.....

Quote  |  Reply

Back in '06-'07 I lost about 30 pounds, and was in the best shape of my life!  (Young life, I'm 23)  I maintained for awhile, but over the past year I find myself 10 pounds higher than I was and none of my clothes are fitting right!!  I have always kept up a workout routine, but the past 6 months I've stepped that up and have tried to eat healthier without counting calories.... not working.  So as of today, officially back hardcore at calorie count!

My question is...... should I eat 1200 calories + whatever I burn at the gym?  Or just stick with 1200 until maybe I lose the first 5 pounds and then start increasing calories???  Thanks, I am having trouble remembering this stuff!

If you're this weight and you're working out frequently and eating healthily then this is probably a natural, healthy weight for you and your extra muscle bulk could account for some of the difference.  Many people get a little heavier from their late teens to their early twenties.... fill out a little

If you still think you need to lose weight work out your total average energy needs...... deduct about 500-700 cals..... go with that as your average weight-loss intake.  1200 is only appropriate if you're completely sedentary all the time and/or very small and/or very old.

Edited to say .... I note that back in August 2008 you said you needed to lose 10lbs.... and that you'd lost 20lbs before.   Seems that you have this 'ideal weight' in your mind but that your body doesn't agree.  Wouldn't it be better to buy some new clothes that fit... learn to love your current shape.... work on maintaining it rather than carrying on being a yo-yo dieter?

I appreciate the advice, and everything considered I am still at a normal weight.  I am about a size 8 right now, and most of my clothes are 6.  It could be that this is my set point, but I am hoping counting calories (and not taking that 2nd helping of dinner every night, not eating that late night snack) will be the problem solver.  I think I gained weight because I stopped counting and became less conscious of what I was eating.

I hate the words "1200 calories".

They new minimun should be 1500.

'I weigh 250 lbs and i work out 2 hours 7 days a week, im eating 1200 calories ISNT THAT WHAT YOURE SUPPOSED TO DO????'

Ugh.

That wasn't very encouraging. Obviously, I know someone who is 250 pounds that works out 2 hrs a day should be eating waaayyy more than 1200, but that is a number thrown around frequently and I assumed since I am so close to my goal weight that would work as a minimum.
