Hello everyone! My name is Heather, I live in Aberdeen in Scotland and as my post title indicates I am starting again.
A year ago I was 8+1/2 stone and using the gym up to five times a week, I also competed in bodybuilding competitions with this, and having a special needs daughter and being a single mum dieting and exercise was easy, then a year ago my daughter reached her 18th birthday and had to leave her wonderful special needs school, our local authority are supposed to provide her with 20 hours of care a week but so far all I am getting is 8 hours a week, the rest of the time it is down to me and I have an extra 3 stone on my body to prove it.
Someone took a photo of me a few weeks ago and I was horrified! [it's on the fridge] I now feel like I really need to do something about my weight, I am 47 now and I am worried if I don't do it now maybe I won't ever. I happened across this site this evening while I was checking the calories in salad dressing, it looks great and I am hoping that keeping a journal and food diary may be just what I need. Tomorrow is day one.
Heather, Hi. I'm new to CC but I relate to a lot you've said. I like to take pictures, but I hate to be in them. I am always horrified when I see myself in pictures. I think keeping a food diary (and exercise log) will help me and I plan to be excrutiatingly honest in hopes of keeping myself motivated. Today is day one for me too.
Good luck to you heratera, day one is always worst, stuck to the diet ok so far now if I can only motivate myself to get onto my cross trainer for an hour that would be good.
hi all, I started last tuesday and busted this weekend on vacation. I ate ice cream 3 days. One day was a birthday party and I almost escaped without it, but I lost my will power. I gained one pound.
I started over this morning. I have about 600-700 calories available for dinner and I am starving after eating a salad for lunch lol! I have never had this much touble sticking to a diet. At least I am drinking water today which is good.
I do not have much at home to cook so I might buy some baked chicken from chicken-out and toss the skin.
hopefully this will get better. Thanks for listening. I am so bored at work and I think that makes dieting worse because I have time to think about food.

I have to motivate myself to exercise too. I just went out with my son and took a long walk - but it's no where near enough. I don't have as much problem thinking about food when I'm at work - but when I'm home I am weak. HT
I don't keep anything delicious in the house when I am dieting, I tend to shop everyday for only what I am planning to eat, if it's in the cupboard, crisps, chocolate etc I am going to get bored at some point and go foraging,
Hello Heather,
I know how you feel, I too am starting again. Two years ago I was just over 8 stone and ran up to eight miles every day + visiting the gym every other day for 1 - 2 hours.
It is disturbing how changes in your life can change your lifestyle so drastically. I've put on 2 stone in the last year, and up until I found ths site 5 days ago was eating for Wales.
I too am a single parent, I'm 46 and worried about finding a job (My reason for bloating) However, its never too late to get fitter and healthier, so good luck with your quest and if you can't get out to the gym, do it in your living room.
Regards Susan
