Starting birth control without the period?

Quote  |  Reply

So for the past few months I've been getting a rather regular normal period (every 28 or so days) and a couple of weeks ago I decided to talk to my doctor about starting birth control to help ease PMS symptoms/protect against pregnancy etc so I was prescribed Yaz and told to start it either the first day of my period or the first sunday after it finishes.

HOWEVER...its been over 40 days since my last period now...I don't know if its from stress or whatnot, but I've been expecting it and feeling some PMS symptoms over the past few weeks but my period is completely MIA, but I want to start the birth control...this might sound really stupid but would it be so bad to just start the birth control even without getting/waiting to see when I get my period...and then hopefully 28 days from that day I'll be regular again?

I'm not sure about the question on BC, but don't worry too much about the missed period if it's only been one cycle skipped - and as you got the symptoms I'd put it down to stress. That'd happen to me a lot. ><;

are you sure you're not pregnant? check if you are before you take the pill, as the pill can be harmful in pregnancies.

feeling pms symptoms and a missing period can indicate pregancy, but its not for sure...take a pregnancy test, or even have the blood one done just in case.

my mom had this happen to her...she started taking the pill while she was pregnant, fotunately, she didnt take them for too long before she found out and stopped taking them.  I should know lol I was the unborn baby :P

so check for that first and if so then ask your gyno, because when it comes to medical terms and taking pills we cant really advice you much on it.

i'm a virgin. therefore i know i'm not pregnant.

yeah you don't have to start it the first day of your period, thats only if you want to have sex right away Lol : P . You can start it whenever just make sure if you do have sex to use backup for at least a month.
