I'm in!!! This is perfect for me.  I can run a little, but I am a manager at a fitness club and want to start a little running club when spring starts but I cant do it if I cant even run!  My days are going to be tues, thurs, saturday.

Count me in too!!  I can jog a little bit right now but I can't get my breathing down.  Do you have any tips?

My days will be Mon, Wed, and Fri.  Smile

I didn't notice that the website indicates how fast to jog - does it matter?

I AM WITH YOU GUYS!!  I have actually started running the past two weeks to train for UW BADGERS CRAZY LEGS race which is a 8k run.   I have until the end of April to train so thats my plan.  I looked at the site and it looks perfect for me!  Right now I cant really run longer than 3 minutes at 5.0 mph so i warm up with that and then i keep increasing my speed as i go.  so after the three minutes, i rest for two minutes then i run at 6.0 for a minute and once i get up to 7.5-8.0mph i only do 30 seconds.  i rest about a minute or two in between.  keeps my heart pumping thats forsure.  at least with this plan its more structured!!  So consider me in as well!

I must say, it is a pretty awesome feeling to have never ran more than a mile before to want to actually do it.  and know that you can do it.  great feeling!!
awesome! i'm soo excited to start this. i've never ran...never thought i could. hopefully this time.

1pinklady...i've read some prior posts and people seem to be going at their own pace.

Me! Me! Me!  I want to join.  I started the program last year and then went on vacation, got sick, blah, blah, excuses.  I'm ready to get back to it.  I will be running Tues, Thurs, Sat.

Thanks!

For iPod owners who are doing the couch to 5k there is a podcast for this on iTunes! It's like you have a personal trainer...he tells you when to start and stop and when to take a break. It has upbeat techno music playing while you are running. I was really impressed with this podcast. I don't have the name of the podcast, but will search for it and repost.

The podcast is called:  Podcasts for Running  by:  Robert Ullrey

This is a great motivational tool.  Good luck!

Thanks shipwalk!! I am always looking for music to keep me motivated and I love working out to techno music
Well, I'll try it? (Try being the key word there) I got really into it during the summer, but I got stuck at about the 3rd to last week and gave up when school started back up. (I know running gives me the most benefit, but it's by far the most boring for me)

so i guess some of us are starting tomm.

good luck everyone.  After i'm done i'll post how many miles i covered in the 20 mins, gonna start off slow tomm.

me too!  I'm 21 and had athsma as a kid... have been meaning to start running and I desperately need motivation/friends!
Good Luck on your first day everyone!  I know you can do it!
So i live in MA... and we're getting a lot of snow today so I am stuck inside.  Will have to settle for yoga today.  Anyone else starting tomorrow?

I started the program and was in week 5 and then I had to stop because of a flu and a stomache bug and moving for 3 weeks...

so now Im going back to week 2....

I would love the motivation as it is really hard to get myself out of bed at 5:30 am to do it before work...

But is fells so good to go to work and know that soon Ill be running 5km :)

tamarbee, i think its amazing that you get up early to work out....i tried it for a couple of days and just couldnt do it.  i remember the amazing feeling the rest of the day when i did manage it though.

glad you're getting back into it.

how was week 1??

I am starting tomorrow ( alarm didn't go off this morning) and will change my days to Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday........

Good luck everyone!

hey guys...so i got through Week 1-Day 1

wasnt as bad as i thought it would be,  I walked at around 3.2 and jogged at 4.6 ( i dont know if thats too slow)

i forgot to check the distance i covered...oops.

Hi Everyone - This is perfect!  I joined a group that is following a similar plan and the goal is to run a 5k the 3rd week in February.  We run on our own all week, and will be meeting on Saturdays for a little coaching. I started a few weeks late, but am happy to say that after 3 tries, I am caught up to them

Last weeks intervals were 5 minute runs with 3 minute walks for 30-35 minutes, and a warm up and cool down on either end.  I am just so pleased that I am able to do it, but the real test will be if my knees and hips allow me to continue with the program - a few months ago I tried and at about the 3-4 week mark, the pain was unbearable. I am just keeping the pace slow (5 mph when on a treadmill) and not doing the hilly area near my home more than one time a week.  On the alternating days I am doing my Power 90 DVD at home - I LOVE that workout, it's super effective.  Anyone else do Power 90 or other home workouts?

A friend of mine gave me this great technomix called Thrivemix that just really fuels my energy, what would we do without our iPods??
I too got through day one, it was actually much easier than I had thought it would be...but i also have been doing a similar routine the past few weeks.  i also read the part where it said to NOT jump forward so i will continue this week.  i look forward the the challenge next week and just hope this week gives me more endurance.  I thought it was a great way to get your running in though, i didnt feel super tired at the end.  i did 40 minutes of it to make sure i got all my cardio for the day.  i walked 3.5mph and ran 5.5mph which felt good.  i feel better full out running but get tired SOOO fast that i cant do it that long.  so the 5.5 is a good start i think.

lilreenz, i think your speed is fine...it says to do what works best for you.  if thats what youre comfortable doing you can always try to increase your over all time later!!  i just want to get the endurance down at the pace im ok going at without being completely beat up and then slowly try to increase at the end.  GOOD JOB TO US!!!

Well I didnt get up today...Im in the process of moving into my own apartment and its just taking all the energy away from me...

Ok Ok tomorrow morning Ill get up and run for sure!

Week 1 was great! The great thing about this program is that the first month is really easy. So you can build up your stamina slowly.

I love that the program emphasizes not overdoing it - I have a tendency to push myself over my limit and then quit cold turkey. So go easy - do the 3 times a week exactly as is written and if you feel its still a challenge repeat the week...

Slow and steady we will all run 5k! We just have to stick to it - and objectively thinking 30 min * 3 times a week is really not a lot of time... We can do it!!!
