Starting Diet 1/21/08. Makeover for my life.
I am beginning my diet tomorrow and life makeover. I am looking for friends, supporters, motivators etc... and I hope to be one for others!
I am 21 years old, 245lbs, 5 feet 6 inches tall, and wear a way too tight size 20. I plan to drop nearly 1/2 my weight by January 1st 2009!
I am going to be using slim fast for two meals a day. I'll eat healthy snacks. For supper I am going to alternate grilled or baked, chicken breast or fish with veggies and brown rice or 1/2 plain baked potato between canned healthy low fat soup. On Sundays I will just eat my meal at lunch. I will be working out using an elliptical machine and stretch bands for at least 45 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Eventually I am going to slowly incorporate other foods and activities but I have to get on track first. I am completely addicted to food so I have to get over that.
I plan to drop about 20 lbs and a full size every month and half or so.
I will be posting several times a week at the least. I need to be successful this time around. No giving up! I am looking for others who are setting out on a journey too or who have been there and can help!
I wish you the best! It isn't easy (as we all know) but.....I at least felt that it was high time for me too!
I found a blog that a poster here does, and she had so many great tips on losing weight AND being able to do it in the way you can stick with it...she has really encouraged me (even though she doesn't know it!! LOL)
I would look her up and check out her blog.
She goes by j3nn (something) I am not sure the rest of her "name" here...but she posts often, so it will be easy to find.
you can do it !!!
it really helps keeping a journal, it makes you see what you are doing by writing it down and lots of people chick in on you over time and give you comments, it really makes a difference.
I think it is hard to start with slim fast, that's just me though, I'd rather chew on something, gives me more the feeling I am not depriving myself of food, there is so many yummy things out there that are healthy and low calorie, so I would not wait too long to make the transition to eating 'real' food
Happy losing to you !!!
Good for you!
My goal is not that ambitious, but my dad has lost over 100 lbs in the last 8 months and looks like a different person (and is much happier and more energetic). He still has a ways to go (I think another 70-80 lbs) but it goes to show you can do it with determination and planning. He doesn't do any liquid meal replacements, though, so I'm not sure about that approach. He's working with 2 doctors and a nutritionist and really watches his food combinations to get the right amount of protein, fats, carbs, etc in each meal/day and is very careful to get enough protein so that his muscles don't start to waste away, which happens if you don't get enough calories. When you're big you need a surprising number of calories per day and you still lose weight consistently. He is just now getting to the point where he can add in exercise, so he's done 100+ just by modifying his diet. So you can do it, too!!!
I'm pretty new to CC, but am finding it very helpful to track everything and see what my problem areas are. And a lot of the people on CC are really inspiring, so that helps with motivation.
I wish you a successful 2008 ![]()
congrats and good luck! you will do amazing.
everyone needs a different plan to get them started. my mom is doing herbalife, which is similar to slim fast in that 2 meals a day are shakes and the third is a healthy meal. shes lost 50 lbs so far! i am so proud of her.
i come from the other end...im recovering from an ed...only 5 days into the nightmare...so i have my own life journey right now :) i love your goals and posts and i am excited to see as you accomplish your goals. :)
Thank yall so much. This is exactly where I need to be! After reading numerous post about getting enough calories I am concerned. I have to eat about 1950 a day too and that seems so high to me. I really want to work out and that burns some calories so this is going to be a balancing act.
Also congratulations to you and your family members. Sometimes it is hard to have faith that I will be able to get to my goal and truly have a changed life but hearing other peoples accomplishments help. JUST KNOWING IT IS POSSIBLE!
Wow, good for you! I know fitting into clothes better is a huge motivator for me.
Don't forget to drink your water! So many calories show up in liquid form - cream in the coffee, pop, juice, fruit punch. 8 or more glasses of water a day really makes the weight loss work way better!! (Hmm ... if I want to practice what I preach I'd better get off the computer and go drink 3 more glasses before bed ... oops!)
Good luck!
Here goes everything. Day 1. Good luck and God bless to all out there as we get through today!
Oh yeah. This totally sucks but my starting weight is 247.5....higher than what I originally thought. Its ok...just more reason to start today!
Good luck with starting your new plan!! I know you'll do well! Everyone here is very friendly and supportive. I've just started a week ago myself and I'm so glad I've found this site!
I will add you as a friend :)
Awesome. I know we can all beat this thing!!! I made it through breakfast with a meal replacement bar. I brought my case of slim fast to work but it wasn't cold yet so for lunch I ate a banana and a on the go 200 calorie meal. So I am being a little flexible so far!
When I got to work this morning my coworker had brought a exercise bike and weight lifting thing (kinda like a total gym) so that we could work out during breaks or during the lunch hour. I thought that was really neat!
So far...So good. How about yall?
So far...Not so good.
I am getting really hungry. I had a snack at two O'Clock. I cant wait to get home. I definitely think I am going to have to eat all during the day/evening to curb cravings and actual hunger. I need some high protien snack options....Any Ideas?
I kick started my plan about 2 weeks ago. I would suggest eating as much fresh fruit and veggies as you desire. This should overall help the cravings with sweets etc. Know that it takes about 2-4 weeks to make anything a habit, and to forget that you want sweets. If you want to do Slim-fast, maybe you should only do one replacement meal a day instead of 2 until your body gets use to the change, cold turkey does not work well with the body and what it wants =). This will ensure you are getting the amount of Calories you need a day. You said that you calculated that you need around 1900 calories a day, if this is the case what have you been trying to consume? You should only have about a 500 cal def between what you eat and what you burn a day, this will help you lose about a pound a week (which is really healthy). Also just a change in What your eating will help so much. I would say have 3 main meals and about 2 snacks a day...making those healthy snacks like 100 cal popcorn, fruit, yogurt. etc.... I hope this helps!!
I Wish you the best of luck!! You can do this, just stick to your guns!!
Now, I am staying with the old standby. Three healthy meals, biggest at breakfast, and two snacks. That way I get to eat about every 2-3 hours and never really get hungry and end up blowing the whole thing.
Also, what is being said about needing to eat to lose weight is true. When you put yourself on a really low calorie diet, your body goes into starvation mode and it makes it harder to lose weight. I know, that advice goes against every thing we have been taught before.
Good luck and please let us know how you are doing. This site is wonderful. I found it about a year ago and used it and lost like 20 pds. But as things happen, my life change started to slip and I wasn't so careful with what I ate. So here I am one year later, same weight but ready to go again. Feel free to add me as a friend if you would like.

Wish you all the luck in the world I to again have decided to start my diet today I'm 5'5" and weigh 233 lbs. I also was thinking about using slimfast, I also have purchased the alli starter pack the pill you take with your meal and it blocks fat from your food. I have also seen a soy meal replacement bar and drink that is in an article in first magazine that is suppost to help with weight loss I will send the info tomarrow. on top of trying to loose weight, weight problems are in my family I also like to drink so I'm attempting to stop two things. I would like very much to just hit 200lbs, I know you mentally really have to be tired of being heavy, so many times I want to loose but fail because I just feel that I will never get skinny I know attitude is the key we need to just fill sick and tired of using food to make you feel better, food is my friend, I hope you can do it and I can see what other people are posting for you and maybe find insperation also.
Good luck I'm rooting for you!!!!!
ATTA GIRL! You will be able to do this. We all are going through this as well. Remember, you've made a life change. You're NOT on a diet, so do not, please do not think what you're doing is a diet. You've simply changed the way you eat and live so that when you're 80 years old you'll be out living the good life and NOT wasting away in a bed. Have fun! Congratulations!
Is my sodium intake too low?
