Starting a group to lose weight together!
Hi, I'm 28 years old 5'2" weighting in at 148 lbs. I have two children. I use to work out regularly and eat healthy over the years of becoming comfortable I have quit doing all the above. I was 115 lbs when I left high school so to be sitting where I am at today makes me sick.
Yes, I know I have had two children, but that does not make me feel any better. I want to start a group of approx. 20 people that want to join in with me to lose weight.
My goal is 120 lbs which is a 28 lbs lose. I want to lose atleast 14 lbs by the end of May due to going on our first family vacation ever. The kids are old enough to remember it.
Please join me. Let's pick a date to weigh in and give your help to each other to lose the weight. We can give help and our own tips to help the ones that are stuck.
Hi reynoldsbo! I am also 5'2" and weight about that. I have a lot of health issues that make it a challenge. I can't exercise very often and I find that when I'm feeling down about things, I eat. My mom passed away last December. Before that I was down to 143, which was a long hard trail for me, and now I've backslid some, so to speak.
I wanna get back on that horse and ride! I may not be able to control my exercise or weight loss, but I sure can control what I put in my mouth! I'm hoping to find a group that we can lift each other up and help to stay on the healthy road. A little encouragement goes a long way (weigh:)
My current goal is 1800 calories or less, more veggies and fruit, less carbs and sugar (BTW I'm lacto/ovo/pesca vegetarian) and try to move as much as I can.
Accountability:
For breakfast: eggs whites scrambled with tomatoes, onions & spinach, 4 oz of fruit, coffee with 2% milk.
1st Lunch: bialy with low fat cream cheese (left over from breakfast)
2nd Lunch: 5 cups of salad, White Balsamic dressing, 1T of almonds & cranberries.
Dinner: Probably 1/2 of a bowl of rice, black beans & lettuce at Chipotle.
I'm in. I've been wanting to do the same thing. I'm 24, 5'6", and 170. My goal is 130. I've been working on loosing weight for 3 weeks, without much movement. Maybe, this will help to really motivate me.
Throughout my life I've been on the weight roller coaster, the thinnest I've been was in high school when I was 130 and felt pretty good, so I thought I'd start there for a goal.
My biggest challenge is school. I'm a law/masters student so I spend a lot of time in class and studying, which makes it hard to exercise. Add stress and the fact that I like to eat when stressed and its a deadly combination.
But, I'm trying to change my life around and stop making excuses.
I love the idea of helping each other, its not easy, but having people there really helps.
I can totally relate to you. I work 50 + hours a week, raise two kids, and go to school at night for my bachelors in business management. I wished I had it in me to go to school to be a lawyer. We can do this together I know we can. My goal is to work out 3 days a week. Unfortunetly I could not live without my meat, but I'm definitely going to cut back on the meat.
I am with you about eating when I'm stressed and that's pretty much all the time. We have to learn to control our thought process for food and if we are that hungary grab a fruit or something with a lot less calories than chocolate.
I'm hoping to get some more reply's so that we can get this started.
Reynoldsbo:
Law school, etc is very busy, draining, and tiring, but I couldn't imagine having your schedule! I think its great that on top of it all, you are getting your bachelors degree. My mom went back to school when I was 12 and I thought she was amazing for doing it.
And oh, the stress eating....I'm just trying to plan my meals out and snacks if I have the calories. I'm mostly a three meals a day person. I know a lot of people say smaller meals, but I just don't have the time to plan that many healthy meals and eat it.
Hello jr5757.
I love the idea about not being able to control the weight but what you put in your mouth. I totally agree. Its the new attitude I've been trying to have. Also, I could definitely use a goal of eating more veggies and fruit and less sugar and sodium. It seems like sodium is in everything.
I'm trying to get up and exercise at least 5 times a week. I've found if I don't set time to exercise, I may not get off my butt all day. I wish I could study and exercise at the same time, but I'm not one of those people. I find myself thinking too much about how I want to stop and not on my hw.
Hi Y'all!
Well I didn't have the 2nd lunch today, (I try to eat more little meals) for some reason I wasn't all that hungry, not that I'm complaining! :) I did eat all the rice and black beans in my Chipotle with a double serving of romaine lettuce. I'm at just 1077, however my DH comes home late tonight and typically I end up eating something he brings like a Taco Bell 7 Layer Burrito, so I'm gonna try hard to just say no and eat some apple slices.
I will try to weigh in tomarrow morning and post for accountability.
Good morning guys,
I was really good last night. When I had left work I had only had 497 calories. I've really tried to cut back on the cokes. So I drank one Diet Coke yesterday. I do believe my body is going into caffenine shock though, but that's okay it's all in the name of losing weight. Anyways, I felt pretty good my oldest daughter has gymnastics on Tuesday nights and it's rush, rush, rush. So we usually just eat McDonald's. I got the 10 piece chicken nugget meal. Anyways, to make a long story short normally I eat the whole thing including fries, but last night I only ate 8 nuggets and I didn't eat but half of my fries. I was actually really proud of myself for that one. I'm hoping to go to the store to get some more fruits and veg's to snack on. So overall I had 1094 calories for the day. I think I need to eat a few more, but I was so busy yesterday I didn't actually think about eating so much. I also went home and did 50 crunches, 30 push-ups, and I did a 20 minute work out video. So I was really proud of myself last night. I have actually got my husband in on this and he has decided to work out with me. No offense but we will see how long that one lasts.
I'm going to make us a spread sheet for out weight lose. I think we should get our numbers in today if possible and we will reweight in every Monday. If you guys want to change that let me know, but I think Monday's are good because it's the start of the week or we could do Friday's to give us a push for the weekend. Just let me know your opinions.
I have decided though that this bouncing around has got to stop.
This morning I was 174, I don't want to be that again.
My stats as of this morning, are pretty similar to tiffany, 5'7" and 174, I would like to get to 140 and see how that feels. I am also studying law, although now I am writing my dissertation I don't have many classes. I have about 250 pages to write in the next 6 months, so lots to do, but no specific schedule.
hope you are all having a good day and I look forward to being part of the group,
Jane
jane3001 - you are more than welcome to join the group. I have started a spreadsheet on all of us. I'm inputting in the numbers of where we all are and where we want to be. The biggest thing is we just need to talk to each other. Keep the open line of communication going.
Anyone that wants to email me please feel free to at RockinRStable@gmail.com
I'm more than happy to also send the spreadsheet out I'm doing. I'm really wanting to lose the weight and get into shape. I'm glad to find a group of people that are just as eager as I am.
I do know that especially if you are cutting out full strength coke you will notice a bit impact on your weight by quitting, your teeth will also thank you and get whiter, and so will your bank balance (a pleasant side effect of quitting has been all the money I've stopped directing towards Coke shareholders!) I think there is nothing wrong with using diet coke as a bit of a substitute when transitioning, and caloriewise it is certianly better. Keep up the good work!
Hey! Good job reynoldsbo! Consider yourself patted on the back!
Welcome jane3001! Hope things are going well for you and tiffanymoo
My calories ended up being 1123 yesterday, I just wasn't hungry for some reason.
I weighed in this am at 146.4. For breakfast, egg whites scrambled with spinach, onions and chopped tomatoes and fruit salad (that was on the side, not scrambled in!:)
Today I go across town to my DD's work for a crochet meeting. I plan to pick up a veggie pita from Extreme Pita and hope to skip the cookie I just know I will have to struggle to resist.
Good job jr5757. I have not weighed myself again since Monday. I wanted to wait and see after a couple of days. I'm hoping to see some changes. I do know I worked out last night and it made me realize how out of shape I physically am. That is absolutely scarey.... That's okay because it is a new beginning for all of us and we are on the road to a better life.
I'm doing pretty good today. I have had about 644 calories so far and I've drank 32 oz of water. which is great for me considering I usually can not get down one ounce of water. So far no coke beverages at all. I do not know if I will make it through tonight.
reynoldsbo, good to hear that you are doing well so far today, well done for drinking the water, and well done for resisting the coke so far. I haven't had any today at all (just about 6 cups of tea). it will get easier, keep up the good work!
My day has been pretty okay, I had a wholemeal roll instead of white, drained all the fat off my mince meat at dinner, and substituted half beans. Okay, the corn chips were probably not the greatest idea, but still the whole day was around 1700, and I burnt 2200, so still a deficiet, and I think I am over estimating on the meat. I am trying not to eat after 7pm unless I am going out for dinner, so my eating for today is already over, oh well only 10 hours until breakfast!!
have a good day!
KPIETROPINTO You are more than welcome to join. I am working on a excel spreadsheet so that I can keep up with our progress on the weight loss. I'm trying to work out 5 days a week giving me Sunday and Monday off. I do not do saturday because I have more free time. Monday's I work 10 1/2 hours and go to school for 4 hours so I am just to tired to remotely think about working out when I get home. It's not bad. I have a friend of mine who has suggest the 30 Day Shred work out video by Jillian Michaels (Biggest Loser!) She said it's only like $15.00 a Wal-mart. She said there are three levels in the video and each level is 20 minutes long. She said it kicked her butt on the beginning level. I think I am going to get it and try it. Anything will help. Anyways, I hope everyone eats great for dinner if you have any cravings remember us here on the weight loss team.
Together we can accomplish anything, apart we can not
Hi everyone, I'm new on calorie count and would like some help loosing weight. I'm 20 5"4' and 160Lbs. I've been trying to loose weight for about 6 months and haven't really cracked down on my eatting. I exercise 5-6 days a week for about an hour each time and haven't lost much of anything!
I do understand how law school can be stressful. I myself am going to school for mechanical engineering. When I'm not taking 20 credits I'm working full time at my co-op. I wish I had more time to take better care of myself.
Any helpfull suggestions? I would also like to join this little group, can I still do that?
Hi EVERYONE! I just remembered to check this post and was amazed at all of the new posts and people! That's wonderful.
I was proud of myself last night too. I went to the gym, the first time in months, and worked my butt off. I lifted weights for 30 minutes and did the elliptical for 30 minutes (burning 300 calories!). In addition to my morning work out, which was some exercise program on tv ( something like bikini body or something, but it kicked my rear end). It was awesome because it was the first time I've been on a machine and didn't want to stop after 5 minutes.
I was a bit low on calories since I exercised so much, so I tried to make it up with chocolate frozen yogurt and slivered almonds, which isn't the best decision... I just was trying to figure out a way to get 300 calories after dinner. But, I did end up high in sugar for the day, but at least I was low in sodium.
I'm still at 169 lbs. But, I'm going to keep trying to cut the sugar and sodium and up the water. Hopefully there will be some movement.
I know how hard it can be to cut the pop out. I've started drinking Aquafina flavored water instead. I'll have 1-2 bottles a day to give me something sweet to drink with dinner or lunch. It seems to work well for me.
Today, I tried a different breakfast and had one egg (fried with cooking spray), whole wheat toast, and coffee (I can cut the coke, but not the coffee). For lunch, I had left overs from dinner (Caribbean Turkey Burger (without the bun), salad, yellow bell pepper, and pineapple). Tonight, I'm trying a Mahi Mahi recipe.
I'm so excited that we have a group.
Jane 3001: I can't imagine having a 250 page dissertation. I have to write a thesis for my masters and a comp for my law degree, but I'm hoping they overlap. Both should be no more than 60 pages.
kpietropinto: Twins, wow! That sounds like a handful. I love walking at night, but lately it has been miserable outside. In Oregon, we are used to rain, but they have even said it might snow, which has never happened this late.
reynoldsbo: Good job on last night. I love chicken nuggets, so I can imagine how hard it would be to stop at eight. Also, thanks for starting a spreadsheet. I think its a great idea.
jr5757: Your breakfast sounds great! I completely understand how it is hard to get all of the calories in when you aren't hungry. Its usually when I make my worst decisions. I find myself at 7:00 thinking, well I still have 200 calories....its frozen yogurt time!
HI! I'd like to join the groub too!! Im ALMOST 29, 5'2", and currently weight 149lbs. My goal is to be around 125-128. Im also doing a friendly weight loss challenge with a friend for the next 8 weeks. We weigh in on Thursdays...so I will either post my weight on Thursday nights or Friday mornings....or whenever you all choose too!! Im flexible!
So here is my deal....Im currently trying to eat at or around 1500 calories a day. I had my RMR/BMR tested earlier this month at 1830 ( or 2300 when my lifestyle is added in). I tried the 1200 calorie diet w/exercise in January..I lost 6 lbs quickly but then stalled out...so I decided to have my BMR tested and realized I had been starving my body by only feeding it 1200 calories! At 1500 calories I feel quite satisfied and full of energy!!
I work out 4-5 days a week. I spin on M, T, TH, & Sa. I also lift weights and throw in a work out video when Im feeling super ambitious!! I have lost several inches every where and even gone down a pant/jean size since the beginning of the year...but that darn scale seems to be moving at a snails pace!!!
REYNOLDSBO: I actually was thinking about getting that DVD by Jillian too! Ive read some really good reviews about and I love to watch Jillian in action on Tuesday nights!!!
I think this group will be great and an excellent source of accountability!!!! Here is to a good weekend and sticking to our calories!!!
What I ate today: .5C quick oats made w/ water & cinnamon, salad, grilled chicken & couscous, whole wheat pasta w/lite marinara, boca italian sausage, salad, orange!
I'd like to join, if that's all right! I'm 24, 5'7", and 149. My goal is 135-140. I've already lost about 5 pounds, so I'm feeling good about that, but know I'm going to need some extra help to pull off the rest.
I work part time at my church and my husband and I have a 16 month old daughter - who keeps us pretty busy. A few of the other women on staff and I have begun working out 2-3 days a week and I'm trying to do some on my own the other days. My weakness is chocolate - big time. As far as Coke goes, I am trying to limit myself to 2 a week - and not diet - it gives me migraines.
Thanks for the accountability! I also really like to bake - and that can be my downfall. So if anyone has some dessert recipes that taste good and are good for you, please send them my way!
Oh my, this sounds just like me. I'm 5"4 was 161 now 145. At my smallest I was 108 lbs. Not looking to be that skinny. My goal weight is 118lbs. I also have two children. I am also 28. I'd love to join you. It would be interesting to see how much we can lose together, especially since we are almost the same. We can compare progress pics also. Just let me know when and I'll be there. We should probably try a weekly weigh in.
Kpietropinto, wow i'm sure you must have your hands full with 4 kids and twins to boot! I'm sure you can do it though. Now the weather is getting better walking in the evenings can be really nice. I'm just waiting for it to get a little warmer!
wow, reynoldsbo, your monday schedule sounds intense, It sounds completely legitimate not to work out then! Thanks for organising the spread sheet and everything. Which day was going to be for weighing in?
amtrick, I always think that the exercising isn't making much difference (When I'm not really paying attention to what I eat) until for some reason you stop doing it for a couple of weeks, and then you realise that it is really helping, and especially in building muscle. I"m sure that once you start paying real attention to what you eat it, you will have greater sucess. Wow, mech eng, way over my head, 1st year physics completely did me in.
tiffany, way to go going to the gym! how did the mahi mahi turn out? I'm actually writing my doctoral dissertation, did my LLM a couple of years ago. What topic are you writing on?
rosterhome, great to have you in the group too! sounds like you have been working hard!
janujen, I don't have an oven, so thankfully the temptation to bake isn't around, but last time I was home I tried the cake mix with 1 can diet coke (or other beverage) thing, and it worked really well. I did one chocolate with diet coke, and one orange poppyseed with diet sprite (I really liked this one), perhaps you can try it (although it is so easy it is hardly baking anymore).
bumble1, great to have you in group too!
Well, so far today has been kind of unproductive. It is only 11:30 and I haven't even left the house and already I have eaten the lunch that I so carefully packed up last night to take to uni with me. :-(. But i figured it was better to do that than to eat other stuff just to compensate, and then still eat it later. Tonight I am going out to dinner with friends to a Thai/Jappanese resturant, which should be fun. I am trying to decide what to order, don't know whether to go with a sushi bento box, OR a stir fried main with no rice, OR a mango salad, and a sushi roll. If anybody has any opinions on what would be the best option, please let me know,
Anyway better get my butt into gear. Hope you all have a good day!
