Starting Over
I'm 47 and I'm 5'9". Through the last years of my marriage I put on a lot of weight. I got up to 283, probably went over 300, but was afraid to get on the scale. I divorecd in 2000 and took off some weight, but was still in the 250-260 range. In 2002 I started an active job and started to eat healthy. The job was very active and I didn't have to work out at all outside of my job. I got down to 153 by the end of 2003 and stayed between 155-165 until 2006. I quit that job and slowly started to put on weight.
In 2007 I took a very sedentary job and completely changed my lifestyle. That's when the pounds really started packing on again. About a week ago I weighed myself and am back to 250. I started back at keeping a food journal and am struggling to watch what I eat.
It is hard for me to get any exercise, and I know I can't just change everything I'm doing all at once or I'll get frustrated and quit. So I plan on taking this slowly for the first several weeks and concentrate on when and why I eat, as well as keeping that log.
Any encouragement would be most appreciated. It's so hard to admit that I lost over a hundred pounds and then put it back on. It makes me feel like a failure. It is hard to feel positive, but I'm trying.
So come on, let's see that smiiiiiiiiiile.
It is very impressive and encouraging to know that you lost that amount of weight in the past! I know what it is like to go from a "movement" type job (I used to work as a waitress in the evenings along with the day job) to sedentary (sitting with two babies in the evenings). It's so hard to be active again but we have to wiggle some time in there. It makes all the difference to our metabolisms!
I'm just starting over like you are!
And yes, every BODY has time to exercise even if it means getting up earlier to going to bed later. Many times it has been ten thirty and I still hop on the glider or exercise bike.
Just tell yourself that you will exercise EVERY DAY barring serious illness, of course. No taking off on the weekends (unless you also don't get on the weekends...)
Once you realize how hard you are working on the exercise plan, trust me - you won't mess it up with unhealthy food choices.
Good luck, you obviously know you can do it as you did it before.
Sue.
