Starting my program..

Quote  |  Reply
Ok, so I am here because I am frustrated, and I guess I need some insight....I have begun a heavy workout program of 30-60min of cardio a day and 60 min w/ a trainer doing cardio and weights 5 days a week.  He has upped my calorie intake (I am now at about 1400cal per day), and I feel like I am GAINING weight.  I wont even step on a scale cause I know its going to be higher then my start.  This is my first week, but people always say you drop weight the quickest in the begining.......I'm tempted to go back to under 1000 cals per day....but then of course everyone says I'll throw my body into "starvation mode"  arg!!  This is SO frustrating, because when I have chosen to loose weight by not eating (obviously has never been a long term fix) I have always dropped tons of weight fast and felt SO much better.  Isnt this whole exercise thing suppost to make me feel thinner...NOT fatter!! Any thoughts?  Oh and hi everyone!

Give it a few weeks..and remember that muscle weighs more than fat...since you have a heavy workout, I'd just by inches lost and how your clothes are fitting before worrying about the numbers on the scale.
Consistency, consistency, consistency!!!

Just keep doing it without paying attention to your weight, and it will drop off before you know it, I promise!!!

BTW, "Hi!" to you too!
Defiantly don't start eating less, with these heavy workouts you NEED to be taking in at least the amount he has given you to eat ( 1400). I would hate to see you pass out during these excercises, and you probably would. Nutrition is soo important for long term loss.. Building a solid base of healthy eating will keep you fit and healthy in the long run. Good for you for starting on this path.. trust in your trainer and toss the scale.. weigh in maybe weekly at the gym and just keep going.. YOU can do this... I'm sure your trainer has taken your measurements but if not PLEASE have them do so and measure once a month..

We always have to remember that we didn't put on weight in a week and it won't come off in a week either... good luck on your journey.. and welcome... hope to see you around.. this place is fabulous.!
how about not freaking out until you know for sure if you have lost or not?  and when did you switch from eating under 1000 to eating 1400?

Maybe you did gain, so what thats going to happen when you increase.  You could gain up to 8 pounds even! It could take a month to get your metabolism back... lots of factors if ya did gain.

but stick with this.  articles i read stated 3 months for your body to adjust is maximum, so dont give up on yourself.

i was eating under 900 myself as well, so I know how frustrating you feel.  You feel so heavy and have to make yourself eat and its just a giant mind game because it all makes no sense to eat to lose.  Yes i know..

i'm here for ya if you need some extra support.
everyones right- you've gotta stick to 1400 and BE PATIENT..it will come off....i was the same as you at first..eat less-lose more- but then i realized that this time i wanted to do it the right way with no more viscous cycles so i upped my intake from 1200 to 1400 and put on a pound the following week. however the week after i was back to losing (im only on my 3rd week but still!)

the people here know what they're talking about , they've been there done that so dont worry, just be patient and hopefully you'll see a difference...good luck!

Thanks everyone!!  I'm trying to stay positive and focused.  I'm not feeling quite as heavy, since I took 2 days off from lifting.  I think my muscles may be holding onto some extra water from so much weight work.  I'm still afraid to get onto a scale....but I'm going to get on there today and see what it says.....I probably shouldnt weigh for a couple weeks BUT it keeps me motivated.  Again thanks everyone!
