Starting P90x Today (8/11/08)

Quote  |  Reply

So it is actually 8/12 today but I started the program yesterday.

If anyone isn't familiar with P90x, here is a link to their site: P90x

I am in pretty decent shape right now and have lost about 9 lbs over the last 10 weeks with a pretty relaxed diet and workout regiment. Now I want to kill myself the next 13 weeks to get as ripped as I can. My stats and goals are listed below:

Age: 22
Height: 6'0"
Start Weight: 189 lb
Start BF%: 14-18% ???

Goal Weight: 178 lb
Goal BF%: <10%

I will post an update every Monday on this thread with my new current weight and information on my workouts. I will also post pictures every 2 weeks in my skibbies, although I haven't taken a Start Picture yet.

If anyone is interested in joining, let me know because I would LOVE to have a partner in this. However, it is a very difficult program and the workouts are not for beginners. I have done every P90x workout before but the program as a whole.

Day 1, 8/11/08:
Chest and Back video & Ab Ripper X video.

Pretty good workout... I had plenty of energy.  I ate sushi for lunch and boiled shrimp and rice for dinner.  I also had 2 scoops of protein as my post workout nutrition.  If my weight starts to fall rapidly I may take Celltech in a few weeks to get more strength gain.

I'm seriously considering doing the P90x program. I think (in fact I know) I'm in good enough physical shape to complete it, and I would love to be ripped. May I add you as a friend? I'd really like to discuss this with you and keep up with your updates and improvments.

Certainly you can!  I've actually been using the P90x videos for some time now.  I've done most of them atleast 5 times through and I've been doing the Plyometrics video (the "mother of all the workouts" as they call it) for the last 6 months.  However, I've finally decided to do everything step-by-step the way Tony Horton designed it.  Last night, I had a ton of energy and the two videos I did but I have a feeling the Plyometrics video I'm doing tonight will be harder (especially since I'm bruised and scratched up from playing beach v-ball and soccer every day last week in Jamaica.

Day 2, 8/12/08:
Shoulders and Arms video.

This workout is always tough because it is non-stop.  I like the majority of the lifts we do but there are 2 or 3 I hate.  Fortunately, it was only one hour and I felt good/accomplished after completing it and drinking my protein shake!

good luck with this!  my bf has been doing it for a while now, he's nearing the end of it and he has been looking leaner.  he puts on muscle pretty easily, his problem is just following the foods i think, since he doesn't cook much and usually grabs stuff on the go (he's out and about pretty much all day)

once he's done with it i think i'm going to give it a try too.  keep us updated on what you think and how it's working for you, i'm curious to know other people's experiences  :-)

I bought the videos some time ago and did them for a while but I like a total body workout 3 times a week better (for me). I substitute the Kenpo in when I am cutting and do a double cardio day. Man do I sweat. I have to wear a hat because the sweat is all in my face. The one thing that gets me is the guy in the back (Wesley); he doesn't push his self. I only like the people that push themselves on the tapes. My fave was Legs and Back; I can slam out a hole bunch of pull-ups which it has given me great lats.

Good luck on your transformation. I look forward to seeing your progress. My husband LOVES Celltech, the new flavor Bluerasberry is the one he is on now.

Day 3, 8/13/08:
Plyometrics X video.

Goodness do I hate this workout... It is the hardest, most exhausting, and most draining thing I've ever done, but like Tony Horton says, "I hate it, but I love it."  The workout went pretty well.  None of the exercises are all that difficult for me except the Squat Jump Turns in the running position that you do after the first water break.  Ironically, my weight has been going up slightly each day since I started although I know I've got a 500 calorie deficit.  However, this could probably be attributed to increased water retention.

So far, I love it... 3 down, 87 to go.

Day 4, 8/14/08:
Yoga X video.

Probably the only video I can't do completely... some of the moves I'm just not flexible enough for.  Hopefully that will improve.  Unfortunately, I've heard to be good at yoga you have to do it ALL the time.

Day 4, 8/14/08:
Yoga X video.

Probably the only video I can't do completely... some of the moves I'm just not flexible enough for.  Hopefully that will improve.  Unfortunately, I've heard to be good at yoga you have to do it ALL the time.

I've gotten a lot better at Yoga. But I've been doing it almost everyday for almost 3 months (and I don't have a trainer or anything telling me if I'm doing it right, I just use Wii Fit!).

Something really strange that I've noticed is after 20 straight days of weighing in 185-188, my weight has been spiking the last 4 days.  Monday it was 186, Tuesday: 188, Wednesday: 189, Thursday: 191, and suddenly today: 193.  I KNOW I am at a calorie deficit right now and this doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to me but I suppose I'm retaining more H2O.  Oh well... I know I'm not getting chubby so I guess the number doesn't really matter.

Day 5, 8/15/08:
Legs and Back video.

This was actually the first time I've ever done this video because I have strong legs already and hadn't cared much to get them bigger. It was definitely tough at first though. Balance was difficult on a few of the exercises but I was able to get it down and complete it with no problems.

-----

Day 6, 8/16/08:
Kenpo X video.

I've done this video many times and I enjoy it. I need to get some ankle weights and maybe wrist weights though to make it harder.

Day 8, 8/18/08:
Chest and Back video & Ab Ripper X video.

My weight has finally gone back to normal after spiking 7 lbs in 3 days.  I weighed 186.4 lbs today.  The workout was tough last night.  I was able to increase my repititions on push-ups and pull-ups are starting to get a lot easier.  I also bumped up the dumb-bells im using for Heavy Pants and Lawnmowers to the heaviest ones I have (40s) but it is still not enough resistance so I'm going to have to buy some new DBs it appears.

Day 9, 8/19/08:
Plyometrics X video .

Maintaining weight at the moment. Currently 187ish. Plyometrics was much easier this week than last week, but it is still the hardest video of the bunch.

-----

Day 10, 8/20/08:
Shoulders and Arms video.

I felt a lot stronger this week than last week. I upped weights on some of the shoulder presses to 40 lb dumbbells and 25-30 lbs on some of the curls. 10 days down!

Day 11, 8/21/08:
Yoga X video.

I felt tired today and didn't do any yoga... whoops.

-----

Day 12, 8/22/08:
Legs and Back video.

Piece of cake.

-----

Day 13, 8/23/08:
Kenpo X video.

Definitely need ankle weights to make this harder.

Day 15, 8/25/08:
Chest and Back video & Ab Ripper X video.

15 days down, 75 to go!  So this is the last week of Phase I so I have to push myself really hard this week.  Next week is a recovery week and then begins Phase II.

Todays workout went well.  Ab Ripper X is ALWAYS hard but I'm making progress with it.  I still weigh about 187 but I haven't been eating very well.  Chest & Back never gets easier because I increase my reps and resistance every week, but I am feeling a lot better about it because my numbers have gone up a lot in just a few weeks.  Pull-ups are getting MUCH easier.

Day 16, 8/26/08:
Plyometrics X video.

16 days down, 74 to go!  I DID IT 100%!  First time I've gotten through this video and not had to take a breather or skip a few reps!  It felt really good to finally finish this video, my cardio has definitely improved over the last few months.  The first time I did this video, I only got through 20 of the 60 minutes.

Hey, whats going on? Did you give up on us? I need some updates, lol! I'm starting P90X 8-15-08. Can't wait. So, how's it going?

Hey... no I haven't given up.  I'm back in school part time and working part time and doing contract work part time for another company so I've been extremely busy.  I'm still going strong but haven't been able to post much.

I'll be starting CellTech tomorrow so I hope to see a nice increase in muscle mass over the next 4 weeks.

Hey! I start the X today! Chest and Back. Wow, is really all I have to say. I underestimated this workout. I was spent by the time the Ab Ripper came along and I wasn't able to give it my best. I'm thinking about tackling it again when I get home from work.
