Starting something new!

Quote  |  Reply

Hello all, my name is James I am 36 years old father of two teenagers and husband to a beautiful young wife! Have been recovering from an injury that happened a couple of years back. Looking to overcome the common result of obesiety and lack of excercise that accompanies most back injuries.

I am starting up a lap swimming regimen. Since, the back injury I have struggled with my weight gain. Hoping to find some kind guidance on proper technique.

I haven't had any formal training and would like to know where the starting line is. If there is anyone who could point me in the right direction I would be grateful for your help.

You might want to look for a Masters Swimming club in your area (mine offers short-term memberships), or take a Rec class to get started.

Otherwise, if you know how to swim, start out slowly, build your endurance. You should work up to the time of swimming to meet your calorie burning goals. Maybe check your heart rate as you swim to make sure your exertion level is appropriate.
