i ate 1300 cals today, jogged 30 mins & walked an hour....i am not hungry! do i have to eat back the cals? everything i ate was healthy, full of nutrients and i am satisfied....will i mess up my metabolism? i dont want to make my body do something it doesnt want!
One day will not send you into starvation mode. Just don't turn it into a trend. ;-)
but this is common for me....exercise seems to stop my appetite as well...
Won't you be hungry later? The day is still young ... I think ... I don't know where you are ...
If this happens a lot, you are putting yourself at risk for Starvation Mode.
One of the first signs is lack of appitite or hunger.
One way to get your calories up without adding more food is switching to full fat dairy and using good Fats such as Peanutbutter, other nuts, and Avocados.
Fruit smoothies with real fruit and juice can really help boost up calories because drinks register differently than food with your stomach.
As long as you're at your goal for the day, it should be fine. I'm with alayney, It's only 1pm here, is it already bed time where you live?

Your fine, as others may have said dont let it become a habbit. I spent 2 yrs eating less than 1000 calories a day, took me 1 month to get out of it after finding this site. Ive lost 10lbs to date.
it is 10 oclock, i live in france (so no p.butter for me!)...just made an egg white/lox omelet but net cals still under 1000
I see, okay. Well tomorrow is a new day, try to get enough calories from now on. If you don't have peanut butter, do you have nuts? Even a handful of nuts is close to 100 extra calories.
If you have low fat foods in the house, trade them for normal ones soon.
A cup of whole milk is 160 calories.

i just dont get it..mustn't it be less healthy to force your body into something than listening to what it wants? and why exercise for w. loss if you eat back cals?
When your body enters starvation mode, it cuts off your hunger so that you don't suffer as much as you slowly die. I don't think I'd want to listen to that.
If you don't get 1200 calories *net*, your body doesn't have enough energy to breath, beat your heart, and "live" in general. But it doesn't just take from your fat, it starts taking from your muscles and eventually your organs.
If you continue to lose weight this way, your body will store food as fat and continue to burn your muscle as fuel. Your body fat % will rise and your metabolism will pretty much die. You will most likely gain all the weight back plus more, with damage done to your body.

yes we have nuts. i ate 20 almonds today. do normal dairy products have more or less carbs than low fat generally?
Carbs don't matter, I don't count them, at all. I know my mom can eat a lot of cheese on her "low carb" lifestyle. So I'm guessing normal dairy is low in carbs, you'll have to check though.
I checked the milk in my fridge. The fat free has 12 carbs and the 2% has 11 carbs per serving. So the carbs are basically the same.
ok but i must watch carbs, diabtes is in my family and i am apple shaped!
I don't understand what carbs have to do with getting diabetes. If you consume a lot of sugary junk food and are over weight, you have a risk, but carbs don't "cause" the disease. Using Carbs in a diet when you already HAVE the disease is effective.
Being an apple shape doesn't have anything to do with carbs either. Where exactly do you hear about these things?

nocturne, carbs don't necessarily cause diabetes. I am glucose intollerant which is a pre-cursor for diabeties and I have to watch my carb intake. Simple carbs are the worst. I do eat approx 40-50% of my daily intake from complex carbs like brown rice etc. That is probably why she is worried.
Yeah I just did some google searching, I see that it's effective if you're pre or diabetic, but there is nothing suggesting that you can't eat carbs or to keep them low. Rather, just don't eat junk foods and do eat whole grains/wheat, brown rice, ect. It really seems to put enphisis on "good" carbs, rather then "low carb".
I'm worried about her impression of carbs as the "enemy".
Would she stop drinking milk if it had 30 carbs per serving?

i do eat carbs! i just need to be careful of them...also, in dairy are these good or bad carbs? carbs are not the enemy but excess is....
i do not drink milk, i drink soy
Of course, it's good to keep an eye on all of your intakes, including protien and fats. I get about 60% of my calories from carbs. What percentage is normal for people who are at risk for diabetes?
No milk? Are you vegan?

borgesgreen, milk is a great choice. I don't think you need to worry about the carbs in milk. Just stay away from the chips, sugary cereals, white bread etc and you will be fine. If you want to up your calories...add a few more good fats in ...like extra virgin olive oil. If you sautee veggies or meat, you can use the evoo...it tastes great. And they are heart healthy fats. Fish also has omega fatty acids in them that are wonderful for you. I wouldn't worry about today...its late, but maybe add more to your breakfast.
