I'm just slipping into this whole starve-binge cycle. I cant seem to control myself- it's one extreme to the other. I really cant see myself getting over this and just being 'normal' with food.
Could really do with some advice???!!
I go through the exact same thing as you. I will binge on food one day, feel terrible about it, and not eat the next day, etc etc etc. What helped me realize the harmful effects of this is seeing food in a different light. Think of yourself as a car, and the food you eat as gasoline, oil, new tires. A car needs all of these to work to its full potential. Take away the tires and the car can't move, take away the oil and the car gets rusty. The more you take away, the harder it is for the car to function, until it breaks down completely. Just like the car, YOU need fuel to function.
Another thing that helped me is realizing that there are millions of people starving all over the world, and by not eating and starving myself is like "mocking" them.
I always saw food as my enemy. I hated eating, I hated being full... next day, I craved EVERYTHING. I lost weight, but didn't feel healthy - I still wasn't happy.
Eat healthily, write down what you eat. Your body deserves to be fed
Can you pre plan your meals and snacks so that you have a more structured plan and then try to follow it? I used to be in a similar state and when I would binge to get back on track I had to stick to the plan at the very next meal. So for ex if you binge then pick up from that next meal and eat it balanced. It will feel scary but it is the only way to stop the cycle and get back on track. Hang in there
I understand what your saying. Just this a.m. I got on the scales and lost. What did I do I screwed up I have ate all my calories for the day and it is only noon. I don't have any advice except to myself which is that I use food to comfort or reward me. Food should just be nurishment for the body not for emtional needs. Today it was to comfort and I ate high carb comfort food.
Good luck to you
This is such a crazy cycle, eh. Cut out the "starve" portion and the "binge" will probably take care of itself. The day after you binge, just eat a regular amount of food, that way you won't be emotionally/physically starved later in the day and end up bingeing.
Binge & starve is a pretty classic "false choice" scenario, and there was just a post on ed-bites blog about it. We tell ourselves "I"m either going to binge or restrict!" and completely ignore the possibility of anything in the middle ground.
Is my sodium intake too low?
