Starving before workout, now not hungry afterwards
I had a pack of cashews b/c I was starving around 10:30AM. I went to the gym at 11:30AM and did 35 minutes on the elliptical and 10 minutes on that escalator thing. Torture.
Now I'm not hungry and I was starving before. Anyone else ever experience this? Normally I'm ravenous after a workout.
Same thing happens to me; I'll go to the gym so hungry that I feel I may actually eat the elliptical machine, and by the time I leave, the idea of food just isn't compelling. I give myself half an hour, and if i'm still not hungry, I eat anyways - usually halfway through the food, it hits me that i'm ravenous.
I have the same thing, but it's pretty logical I think.
When you're working out your body diverts bloodflow to the muscles you're using and away from your digestive system. Hence why you should never eat a huge meal before a run or workout. You're stomach will stop digesting it and you'll just spew it out.
Sometimes I get hungry after an hour or so and sometimes I don't it really depends
A good rule of thumb is that you should never workout on an empty stomach (unless it is 20-30 min of SS cardio first thing in the morning).
You should always eat a good meal with 50-75 grams of complex carbs from whole grains (whole wheat pasta, oatmeal, whole wheat bread, brown rice, etc) and 20-30 grams of protein 60-90 minutes before working out. That way you have the energy needed to get a good workout in, and your body doesn't turn to muscle for energy.
Usually I get hungry after working-out...
weird.
anyone knows why ?
I was reading an article that mentioned this earlier today :] Some people get more hungry after working out, some people get less hungry. I get less hungry usually. I'm also motivated to eat much lighter meals after a good workout. If you are lifting weights it's good to get some lean protein right after working out, but it doesn't have to be a full meal or anything. Just a quick protein shake (just protein and water or milk) or a piece of chicken/fish/whatever.

I'll just add that after you workout, you should eat some good carbs and lean protein (and all vegetables you want of course) even if you're not hungry because you need to regain energy and feed your muscles. I always eat well before working out (1,5-2 h) and after working out I'm usually not hungry (too tired to eat sometimes), but I feel the loss of energy my body suffer and force myself to eat anyway. Proper nutrition is the key to an efective workout (before and after).
I'm usually the same way as the OP. I just eat anyway after I workout. Typically a salad with a grilled piece of chicken.
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
