How can I stay away from the dessert table?
Asked by anonymous on Oct 22, 2009 in Nutrition

I always go for the desserts cause my friends eat them and they are still so skinny but I am chubby. I am in college and playing for my soccer team. What should I do to keep myself on task?  I always look away from the healthy stuff.

Answer

Studies show that students eat more when their thin companions take large portions, and so sit near the team members who skip dessert.  (There must be someone!)  Plan a little dessert for yourself of a hot beverage and a small candy or cookie or a fat-free frozen yogurt that fits into your calorie budget.  Realize that many desserts on display look better than they taste.  (Why bother with dry cake and icky frosting?) But, likewise, plan to save calories (if you want) for a favorite dessert that comes around infrequently.  And know that in 20 years, your the dessert-eating friends will have gained weight, but you’ll have figured how to maintain a long time ago.
