When you say you get nothing from your husband, you mean he controls the finances and doesn't allow you to spend money? Is your 175/month used toward groceries, gas and bills or is it your spending money?

My husband and I don't make a ton of money so I participate in market research that pays $25-$75 per study. It takes an hour or two of my time on a weeknight and is non-medical. It especially helps having kids because I can participate in even more research studies because of it. I Googled "market research in calgary, alberta" and it came back with a ton of results. If it's something you're willing to try, just be sure you aren't paying money up front because those are not legit. They should pay you not the other way around.

Start a babysitting/child care service where you can watch 1-2 other children in your home at the same time you are taking care of your own children. (check for local laws) They make GOOD money in the US ($8-12/hour per child!) Set it up like a /real business. Do some research on what the going rate is in your area (and price yourself just a little bit lower or at the same rate) ... phone calls to other child care providers, day care centers, etc. List your hours -- maybe you only want to work 7am- 6 pm. (so people can drop their child off before work, pick up after) or maybe you just want occasional jobs. Do you want to work weekends? Will you give a discount for 2 children in the same family? I have friends that will watch 4 other children at a time. They have clients that are T/Th only and others that are M-F. The clients have to guarantee a certain minimum number of hours (ie. 20/wk) and pay for any hours under the minimum. Extra for picking up early or late.... Some parents will REALLY pay for an occasional weekend away! Will your husband pitch a fit if you take kids in?

Can you clean houses while your husband watches the kids? what about take in ironing? or sewing? or whatever talent you have? turn your hobby into a part time business.... Have you thought about becoming a "consultant" for anther firm (Avon, pampered chef, Creative Memories, etc. I don't know what you have in Alberta)?

and....what is with the comment, "nothing from my husband"?

Good luck!

Have you tried to be a medical billing specialist? You can work part time from your home. They had classes and seminars all the time in New Mexico. I would think that they would have something like that in Calgary?

Do you have any special talents? Art, yoga, or something like that? Maybe you could offer lessons, or work part time at a place that has day care for employees? My mom taught piano and would babysit kids for her friends. She'd charge by the week. But, as soon as I was in school, she went back to work as a substitute teacher.

I work at home doing customer service. It's about 30 hours a week and the pay is pretty good. You can check out their website and see if you can do it from your state, if it's something you would be interested in.
