How can I stay on track?
Hey everyone,
I'm 5'6 and last Christmas I weighed 125 lbs, with a small frame. I didn't like it so I started to cut back on my eating (mainly only salads, fruit, peanut butter and rice cakes) and doing major cardio workouts about 4-5 times a week.
I kept doing this and by the middle of summer I weighed 116 lbs! I was soo thrilled with myself. When school started in August I was down to 114 lbs, but I still wanted to lose another 4 lbs. I thought keeping it off would be easy when I went back to college, but I'm back up to 116 lbs.
How can I get back on track so I can get down to my goal weight of 110 lbs?
Any suggestions would be great! Thanks everyone!!
110lbs at 5'6 is a dangerously low weight. Even right now at 116, you are only a BMI of 18.6. 110 would give you a BMI of 17.6 which would make you underweight and put you at risk of many health complications. Your intake also does not sound adequate, as I doubt salad, fruit, PB and rice cakes will give you the 1500 baseline recommended calories for a teenage girl. How much do you eat now? Either way you should gain some weight, not lose it.
Eating too low a calorie intake results in something called "starvation mode", where your body holds every last thing it can get in expectance of a famine. Water, food, calories. Explained:
In turn, the physical dangers that come with undereating and being underweight are numerous. You put yourself at risk of osteoporosis, of loss of fertility if you lose your period, hair loss, electrolyte problems, a weakening of the immune system, low blood pressure, blood disorders such as anemia, heart problems, and even death. From The Body Neglected: Between 5% and 20% of people who develop [anorexia] eventually die from it. The mental woes that come alongside can be just as devestating. Depression is common in undereaters, as well as distorted perceptions and problems like Body Dysmorphic Disorder.
And please remember, anorexia by literal definition, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anorexia_(symptom): anorexia (deriving from the Greek "α(ν)-" (a(n)-, a prefix that denotes absence) + "όρεξη (orexe) = appetite) is the decreased sensation of appetite... so please do not feel I am jumping to accuse you of an eating disorder. What you have described, though - restrictive intake, a want to lose weight beyond a healthy level and excessive exercise - send off alarm bells. I suggest you look at these two websites: http://www.somethingfishy.org, and specifically http://www.something-fishy.org/isf/questionna ire.php. I also think you could do with speaking to a doctor, friend or family member.

my best friend tells me that i need to eat like 10 cakes, but the thing is i don't want to...
i was awful this weekend when i went home (my mom had bought cheesecake and i ate like 4 pieces in 3 days)
and now this morning i just ate a lot of natural peanut butter, and i hate that i just did that! it's a brand new jard, but i'm tempted to throw it away so it doesn't happen again
help?
You're likely binging because you're not eating enough. Again, salad, fruit, pb and ricecakes do not a healthy diet make. If you want examples of foods through a balanced diet, try looking at http://www.mypyramid.gov/. Also, four pieces of cake in three days is not a lot. Okay, you're eating cake, but it's spread out and perfectly normal for a teenager - or anyone - to eat cake once in a while. Your friend was possibly a bit insensitive telling you to eat ten of them but she/he is likely concerned for you because your weight is so low. You really need to aim to gain a little weight or maintain where you are and get your intake to a better level.
nobody wants to hear this bs and nobody's going to tell you it's ok to try to lose more weight.
