How STEADY is your progress?

Quote  |  Reply

Im just wondering how steady everyone's progress is.  I have managed to lose 34 lbs, but its taken me 15 months and the weight never ever follows any kind of pattern or pace.   I mean, I lost the first 12 lbs really quickly without even trying (without eating clean or exercsing).  Then in took me another year to lose the next 22 after starting to exercise and eat better foods.    I just dont get it.  I know that 34 lbs is a great accomplishment, but Ive got another 70-80 more to go and i feel like its going to take forever considering how random my the progress has been.

In the short term, my weight loss is totally weird and seemingly random.  I'll lose a ton of weight in a week, then go three weeks without any noticeable change.  In the long term, though, it's pretty steady.  I lose about 6ish pounds a month, depending on how busy I am, and how nice the weather is (I mostly exercise outside).

I've lost about 35 pounds in a little over 6 months. My weight loss has been pretty steady although sometimes I will go around two or two and a half weeks without losing anything. VERY frustrating lol but I'm very proud of my weightloss so far.

i lose about 2 lbs a MONTH, if i lose any weight that month at all.  its so lame.  i just dont get it.

I lost 25 pound over 9 months. It was pretty even, (except for the first week when I lost 4 or 5 lbs). I was not bothered by the slowness of it, I was just glad to see the downward trend.

I've been at this for exactly 2 months now.  I started on Jan 28th and lost 16 lbs.  I hope it keeps up!

mines not steady at alll. since bingeing and my insane social life.

ive lost about 15ish pounds in total since december ... but like before the summer of last year i probably lost about 5-10 pounds (but my scale was WAY off).. so thats why its an estimate.

i keep gaining losing gaining losing. im determined this time to not fall off the wagon!

but i guess in the long run its good to know i can do this! and they always say SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE! Cool

hahah youre doing great! Keep it up!

Jessica -

I've taken about five years to lose 50lb, from 175lb to around 126lb-ish now (I'm 5'3"). It was not steady - suddenly I seemed to lose weight dramatically, other times I was the same for months on end (or looked the same, I wasn't weighing myself hardly at all for the first 3 or 4 years, and rarely do now even). BUT I never put any weight back on, or not visibly.

Here are some good points on slow weight loss which might help cheer you up...

a) I am pretty sure I am never going to weigh 175lb again, barring dramatic pregnancy/illness problems! It was so long ago and I am nicely used to my new body (though truthfully still quite excited by it!) If you take your time to get your body, dammit, it's YOURS.

b) I was not miserable losing it and did not view it as a diet. I just changed how I ate and gradually started walking more. I never bought any diet products. I never starved myself. I just ate healthier. I only calorie counted for the last 15lb. It was my life and I lived it, not my diet, not waiting to weigh a certain amount. I also did not have a goal weight until I was about 140lb (within healthy BMI).

I think it's more helpful to think "wow, I'm enjoying life so much more/look so much prettier/feel so much healthier at 218 than 252" than to look at "what's left to lose". I mean if you'd done nothing how would you be feeling now? So many people give up and are unhealthy their whole lives!

I'm sorry, I don't know if any of this is helpful. I know I wasn't incredibly overweight to start with, but I just wanted to let you know there are other slow weight losers out there. And I got there. And I'm very happy. I really think the key to keeping weight off is to like yourself. (That's why you get all these girls who lose weight and then feel like they have to lose more.) Losing weight slowly may not be as dramatic, but it's losing weight for life, not for a summer.

In the first month or two it was very slow. But suddenly in the 3rd month I really noticed the pounds drop off. I have another stone or so to lose and it seems to be going very slowly again :(

My progress has been overall very steady. I typically lose between .8 and 2.8 pounds each week, usually falling right in between at around 1.8 pounds. Out of the past eight months I've had three weeks where I've gained .8 pounds, and each of those weeks has been because of undereating.

I think my weight loss has been so steady because I scrupulously track calories and weigh/measure my food. I've also only had a handful of 2000+ calorie days in the past eight months, even including the holidays. The first 30 pounds came off through diet alone, the next 30 have come off with diet and exercise.

i lose a bit, then sit there, drop a lb or two more, then sit there. and there are variations, i gain every ttom and during ovulation. it may take a month to sustain a new 1 or 2 lb low, but the dips are getting lower and the highs are also lower, so i'll take it.

its moving hecka slowly for me, but the over all trend keeps me on track. its like my body only likes to lose a little, then wants to adjust, then it will let go of a little more, then adjust. but i also notice that during the times im not losing lbs, im usually losing mass/inches. my cloths start fitting better, or looser. so? who knows, but over all, i think this slow decline is more likely to be sustainable. and that seems really key for me. i dont just want to lose it, i want to keep it off.

and, a slow loss means having to spend money on clothing less often, for which i am very thankful, as i dont have a very large clothing budget. there is a silver lining in every cloud of gray, perhaps.

Of my 50lb weight loss goal, I've lost 35 lbs over the past 14 months and I have another 15lbs to go which I hope to reach by September.

Although excruiatingly slow at times [only 0.2 lbs some months] it has been a steady weight loss.  While my weight fluctuates slightly up and down a few pounds every day/week/month, the loss has been steady and I feel like it's permanent weight loss.

I have Hashimoto's disease so my body has been working against me through this whole process but as of this week, I am no longer classed as 'obese/overweight' but finally at a healthy weight...now it's time to tone and sculpt.

I absolutely need the combination of diet and exercise...just diet, even super clean eating, does not work for me.  I know it's frustrating but it is worth it if it makes you a healthier person...that's my motivation.

I also think it's important to consider inches as well as pounds when measuring your success.  I've lost 9 inches off my waist in these 14 months and I think that's an amazing accomplishment.

Think positive and praise yourself for every single pound and inch and keep going...you've made a commitment to yourself and you are worth it!

for the first 20 pounds or so, my weight loss was quite steady, but since then, it's very sporadic.  i can drop two or three pounds in a week (five, this past week), then level off or gain a little back (more than a little, if i don't pay attention).  it seems like the lower my weight gets, the more my body needs to recalibrate and adjust.

on the up side, i've gotten quite good at setting upper limits and staying within a five-pound range.  the next goal for me is to get established below 140, so that it can be my new never-again.

if u r  a yo-yo dieter u ll know that what comes off fast ,comes back faster

i have lost 50 lbs in 4 month 5 years ago and regained it all back in few month

over the years i lost between 30-35 lbs every summer and gained them back sometimes by christmas

this time i intend on a steady slow weight loss and giving myself a year to reach my healthy weigth this means 1-2 lb per week

it is really not as simple as it seems as i lost 4-5 pounds on the 1st  2 weeks pretty easily and gained 1 lb last week though i was 110% committed

there really no rule when it comes to z human body even for the same body at diff times so just keep on the good effort and focus on health not the scale no.

What are you doing to lose weight?

What's your calorie deficit?

How many hours a week to you steadily workout?

Just curious, because I have been intentionally been taking things slow and see about a pound lost ever 2+ weeks or so and I'm wondering what to change when that stops.

I'm about as steady as it can get.  If my weight loss line was a heart beat monitor, I'd be dead.  ..../\..../\.../\.........../\............... .../\........................................ ............................................. ...(voices break out STAT!)

to lose weight im eating 1800 calories a day and doing pretty vigorous cardio for 30-50 minutes  a day (either the elliptical, treadmill, or ddr) almost everyday.   my deficit is around 700.

also, i have no problem losing weight slowly.  i'd rather lose it slowly than quickly.  i dont want to gain it back or have crazy loose skin.  however, there is a big difference between losing 1-2 lbs a week and 1-2 lbs a month, especially when I started out with over 100lbs to lose.

i've only had about 6 weeks of 2 lbs a week in 7 months. 2 lbs a month is a half pound a week. in my world, that means: its working! i try not to think about how i wont reach my goal until sometime in 2010 or 2011. i just have to deal with today, this week, this body, right now. that makes it easier. no sense freaking about about what is not. more effective to just keep plugging along. even on days like today when it irritates me to no end, at least i know i'm taking as good of care of myself as i know how. . . and really, whats better than that? the rest is just dividend. (ok, i admit this is my personal pep talk to self. . . . but hey, if it keeps me going, its all good).

You can look at the weight chart in my profile.  It's taken me 3 years to learn how to lose at a steady, slow rate.  Before that it was up and down and a very long plateau.  I'm glad I didn't give up!

The only thing that works for me is a balanced meal plan, based on the Food Pyramid, and sticking to it with commitment and consistancy.  I do slip up now and then, but it's getting easier to stay on track.

I should tell you that I only lose 2 pounds a month and that's just fine with me.  It might not be acceptable for someone in a hurry, but look at what being in a hurry did (or didn't do) for me.

I feel the same way! Nothing happens over night and I've had this body for this long already and I know it's changing so what's the harm of it going slowly?  It's all about feeling better and I do.  The 10lbs came off pretty quick, and now it's slow, but I love to run and be active. When I have nothing to do I go a little stir crazy.

My workout and cals are VERY steady. I don't feel like I'm starving and I feel like I'm depriving myself of something great if I don't workout 5 days a week (usually 4 or 5 days a week).  If I feel like I can push things harder, I do. If not, I keep my routine going without problem. It's a lifestyle now Laughing

blah.  i feel like you guys think i want to lose weight at lightening speed or something.  thats not the case at all.  i weigh 219 lbs so i could technically lose 2.19 lbs a week healthily.  I dont even care about acheiving that.  I'd love to lose even just 1 lb a week, or lose any amount of weight each week but go at a steadier pace.   I know that its taken me forever to get to be big so i expect it to take a couple of years to lose it, but there just seems to be no rhyme or reason to my weight loss even though im doing everything correctly.
