Steady As She Goes

Quote  |  Reply

A new milestone has been reached for me today I started my diet weighing 231 lbs today I am 203 lbs = a 28 lb loss or 2 stone in English. I am already reaping the benefits I sleep better, I am not so breathless, and my motivation to lose even more is stronger than ever. Because of my age, and the weight I started at, exercise has not been much of an option for me. But I am now seriously thinking about going swimming to help my weight loss along. I did buy a treadmill and ended up on crutches I pulled a ligament in my leg and that was very painful so I soon got rid of the treadmill, apparently I hadn’t warmed up properly. So as I say swimming could be the answer, let hope I don’t drown Lol.

Ahoy Mate!

CONGRATS on that amazing milestone!!!  Keep it up.

A good 5 - 10 minute stretch before swimming will do you good!  Matter of fact, a good stretch session each morning and before bed is an excellent way to both start and end your day!

Swimming is an excellent low impact exercise... and since you obviously like to fish... I highly recommend it! Laughing

Thank you, for your encouragement and advice, I shall give it a try. When asked what weight I would like to get to, I reply my original weight 7 lbs 8 oz Lol.

Well done! Keep up the good work and continue to keep us posted of your progress.  Have a good one!

Good job Rex on the weight loss. sorry to hear about your treadmill experience. I wonder  what speed and what  incline you had your treadmill on?  did you already have knee problems or anything.  So many try to get right up to 2.5, or 3.0 miles and hour right away and  wind up hurting themselves.  I had  been walking a year, in the house around and around and sometimes at the track at my own speed before I got my treadmill. even so when I got the treadmill I had to start at 2.0. I have worked up to 2.8 but change back and forth up  and down during my workout up to 3.2. and back down to 2.5 and so on. before you get rid of your treadmill talk to your dr. about your injuries and consider the speed that you are walking at. not trying to tell you what to do but maybe slowing down will work. ask the doc.  always stretch though, before walking on treadmill, or outside and also before swimming etc. stretching keeps us from hurting ourselves badly..   swimming is excellent exercise. my fave. last year I avg. about 10 laps most of the summer and worked up to 30 a few times near the end.  I am much stronger this year and  have worked up to 50 laps.  I had back surgery last year, a fusion. I had a severe pinched nerve in right leg, so there was no choice but surgery.   before starting to lose weight I weighed 280, I now weigh 210-215. my back is greatly improved as well as alot of other health issues. now I just  deal with blood pressure which has been under control for 15 yrs, and thyroid issues.   If you have access to a pool, use it, it is the best exercise ever. maybe have someone knowledgeable show you pool exercises to do. maybe a trip or two to therapy( your dr. may send you if needed) to learn the proper exercise for you.leg lifts, squats, crunches and lots of other can be done in the water very safely..... keep up the good work. good luck....

WAY TO GO, IDAHO!
