10,000 Steps - how it is working for me...

Quote  |  Reply
I was at 260lbs. Started on Jan 1st.
I cut my calories intake down to about 1900 calories per day. Trying to do 30/30/40 but in reality is more like 20/20/60(Fat/protein/Carbs). I love Fruits too much..hehehe
THE WALK: I started in JAN with 20 minute walks. Then I got a Pedometer in FEB. Started counting about 6000 steps aday......in a  normal day I get about 2500 steps...so before/lunch/.after work I go for a walk.
Increased steps Daily till I hit 10,000.
2,000 Steps is about a 15minute walk.
So I do:(Monday thru Friday. Gets easier too.)
  1. 2000-3000 before I go to work.
  2. 4000-6000 at lunch time(30-45minutes walk)
  3. And I try to make up difference after work. about (3000)
Anyways...am at 240lbs now, am averaging from 1-2pounds a week.....so it seems to be working.
A Pedometer is not needed but it is a great motivator. I picked one up for $10 dollars at Walmart. If I can find the time... I would increase my walk to 12,000.... hehehe.... BYE THE WAY 2000 steps in aprox. 1 mile

That is a really good idea. I think I am going to try that. In 2 months you lost 20 lbs just from walking? That's amazing. Great job. I need to lose 20 lbs by june 4, and keep it off. I am for sure going to start the walking idea tommorow.

Well that was the kick in the butt I needed to get to my three mile walk a day.  I had to stop due to the flu and than a nasty cold that followed.  Started back yesterday and was glad to see that after almost a week and a half away it was not that difficult to make the full three miles.  I have a pedometer, I just keep forgetting to grab it in the morning.  Darn thing too since it is sitting right next to the cell phone I grab every day.

Way to go on your change in weight!!!!!!  YEAH!!!
congratulations on your success!!! I have been walking about 4 miles a day on top of my daily steps at work which is about 1 hr to 1 hr and 15 mintues a day and haven't noticed any changes yet and had gotten very down on myself but after hearing your story maybe I start seeing a change soon. This last week I was only able to get in 4 days of walking and I think that hurt me a little. Thanks for your story!!! Shanna
That's awesome.  Makes me want to go get a pedometer to find out
just how much I actually walk in a day.  I've been trying hard to
go for at least a 40 minute walk at lunch and I've been noticing that
the hills around the office are easier to climb than the used to
be.  Got to pay attention to all the little things to get your
rewards!
What a great plan!  Before I retired, the company I worked for issued all of us pedometers and we had a contest to see who could top 10,000 steps a day.  After a month, there were prizes for most improved and most average steps per day.  This was sponsored the the company health insurance.

You're on the right track and congrats and a gold star for the great progress you have made!

Thanks All....
Am still at it. I kinda bumped up my calories by 200 to 2,100 a day...I miss my Bread.
I changed my walking routines a bit. out of the 10,000 steps I now try to do 6,000 steps in one session...that is about 3 miles.....done in my lunch break. takes about 45-50 minutes.
Am also trying to add 2,000 steps to the routine(12,000) By adding a 15-20 minute walk before I come to work.
So far I have not skipped a day Monday-Friday that is. Last monday I almost skipped...but felt guilt....so I ended going for 1.5 hour walk at 9pm at home. Not sure I I lost any weight this week....won't know till Sunday..hehehehe.  OK... is is almost Noon...time to head out for my walk....ciao
