(In life, spelling counts.)

On a forum (as long as you can understand what the other person is saying of course), it doesn't count.

We're obviously from different worlds.

and again, we hear from the king/queen of non sequiturs.

Anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) are very, very bad!  As a sport and exercise psychologist, I am researching and contributing to my thesis on the psychological effects.

You're kind of correct when you mentioned that steroids could be a "good thing".  Like many drugs, steroids can serve medical purposes for treatments of cancers, and infirmity caused by AIDS, but of course these are prescribed, monitored and used in minimal doses.

For the mere desire to obtain "gains", AAS are a horrible idea!  Beside the physiological abnormalities such as acne, heart defects, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, enlarged prostate, etc, "juice" causes psychological changes, some of which are irreversible, including: increased aggression, mood swings, hostility, dependency, psychosis, mania, depression, and anxiety.  All of these changes researched and proven in animal and human studies!  The biggest concern for this is that abusers aren't only endangering themselves, but their impulsive, reckless, and aggressive behavior put others in danger as well!

I dated the steroid guru at my college in Montana, the prized running back that led our school to 4 NAIA national championships.  After ending the relationship because of his outbursts and rages, he stalked and harassed me.  He broke into my home in the middle of the night and beat me into the hospital.  I moved away from MT, left everything I had behind; both of our lives are changed forever.  He is now a registered felon; a record containing unlawful restraint, breaking and entering, burglary, theft, assault, and 9 counts of failing to honor a no contact order.  Trust me, steroids are a BIG DEAL!!!

Honestly, do the research!  And if you have any questions, feel free to ask; I'd be more than happy to share some of my research with you, or direct you elsewhere for explanations :)

I have done plenty of research.  The studies on animal about aggresion do not translate over to humans, the most know research was on hamsters, when given steriods they did show increased aggresion, but they cant prove that it was perminate because there is a huge difference in the time span of a human life an a hamster.  As for your ex-boyfriend, that horrilble.  but whats to say that it was'nt just him. Did steriods increase his aggresion? probibly but you cant say every thing was the steriods.  Look at ALL the people taking them, very little of them show any thing that would resemble "roid rage",  So to speak I dont believe "roid rage" even exist, I believe It's simply because when you suddenly put on 18LBS of muscle you suddenly go "oh look at me in a mofo badas" and they get cockier.. Steroids just turn a assh*le into a bigger cockier assh*le.   Studies, researches are very often flawed.. thats when YOU need to step back and just look at the large view and not at the microscope... there are tons of people on steroids,  How often do you see people out in public throwing chairs through windows because they forgot they're wallet.

System, it seems you've already made your decision and are very ready to debate anyone who sees steroids in a negative light.

I can see the medical uses for steriods. I don't think anyone should use drugs to increase performance for sports or for basically cosmetic reasons.

what do i think of them? they are gross.

there is nothing attractive about a guy with fake big muscles (if you need drugs to get them, they are fake to me) , bacne, and what i will assume from what i've heard about steroids, shrunken balls.

i honestly think the only people who are impressed by the way a juiced up guy looks are the other juiced up guys in the gym. if that's who you want to impress, well, good luck, but otherwise keep it natural.

to me it's kinda like the male equivalent of boob implants.

  • First of all, most studies in fact used rats and mice, even monkeys, rather than hamsters.
  • AAS users commonly report changes in affect such as lack of inhibition, impulsiveness, irritability, and alertness (Conacher, 1989).  In a study involving body builders, 81 percent had experienced altered behavioral characteristics, including mood changes.  The study revealed that AAS users had significantly higher levels of aggression toward objects, verbal aggression, aggressiveness while training, irritability, and anxiety.  When the body builders refrained from using AAS, the traits diminished or disappeared entirely.  In a controlled study, researchers learned that during higher doses of AAS administration, men reported significant increases in euphoria, energy, sexual arousal, irritability, hostility, violent moods, and cognitive impairment.  Moreover, one participant had an acute manic episode, while another became hypo-manic during the time they were receiving high doses of AAS.  The results suggested that AAS have a significant impact on mood and behavior, even after short-term administration (Borges, 2001).  Studies have also shown that in humans, levels of certain acids in the cerebrospinal fluid were higher after administration and were correlated with increases in energy levels, sexual arousal, and diminished sleep (Barreto-Estrada, 2004).
  • In the early stages of AAS use changes in mood and euphoria occur.  There is an increase in confidence, energy, self esteem, motivation, and enthusiasm, with diminished fatigue, sleeplessness, and ability to work through pain.  Irritability, anger, agitation, and an edgy feeling are commonly reported.  With larger doses or prolonged use, there is a loss of inhibition and lack of judgment with mood swings and grandiose ideas.  Users become suspicious, quarrelsome, impulsive, and more aggressive.  These aggressive feelings often manifest into violence and antisocial behavior.  These rages can result in “property damage, self-injury (including reckless driving or crashing cars), assaults, marriage breakups, domestic violence, child abuse, suicide, and attempted murder or murder (Borges, 2001).
  • By 1988, we had witnessed at least 20 murders in the USassociated with the use of AAS.  Today we have seen things such as the murders committed by Chris Benoit, former WWE wrestler, and other similar cases.  One such case involves a 32 year old prison guard, who was using AAS, and became grandiose and paranoid and shot an assistant in the spine leaving her paraplegic (Corrigan, 1996).  Another case exists, in which a 19 year old college football player stacking two different steroids, physically abused his two year old child and wife.  Another man, a body builder in Stockholm Sweden, murdered his 12 year old step daughter with an absurd number of stabs.  He then spent about two hours raping, knifing, and wrestling with her 13 year old friend who was over for a sleep over.  After the knife had broken and the man fell asleep the girl escaped and called the police.  Another case in Australia, where a man met a woman in a nightclub, and they took off to a hotel stairwell, where he murdered the woman.  The criminal described that, “something snapped” which led him to commit the heinous act of aggression (Corrigan, 1996).  All of these men were found to be using steroids at the times of the crimes.

But, thats my point, in reasonable use it is perfectly fine and as very little long lasting side effects, Steroids are just like anything else. even too much of a good thing isnt good

Well, regarding HGH, it isn't a steroid.  You have no choice but to inject it multiple times per day otherwise it will be absolutely worthless.  HGH has a half-life of just a few hours unlike conventional steroids which are often (but not always) a week or longer.

From my own personal experience with steroids, I was not pleased.  I did have mood swings.  It wasn't anger, but instead depression that hit me hardest.  However, I did "snap" a lot easier than I normally would.  The problem with your argument is that you're claiming that steroids are ok in moderation.  Unfortunately, the amount you have to put into your body to get any muscle gains is not a moderate amount, it is significant.  I gained ~20 lbs of muscle on the typical suggested doseage for a first time user.  Had I cut that doseage in half, I probably would have only gained 4-5 lbs... comparable to just taking creatine.

ethics aside, anabolic steroids can be a benefit and have none to minimal side effects assuming:

-100% pure product (no apple juice)

-take small enough amounts to just simply aid your training,

-there are side-effects with everything on the planet, moderation and observation are key. if you know what you are taking and whats its supposed to do inside and out, then moderate use will yeild positive results

- there are countelss studies as many people have said, but almost none of them truly PROVE anything.....associations dont mean anything

- also just because its been done in a "study" doesnt mean that this is the end all be all answer. there are bad studies and good studies. there are biased researchers and many other factors that come into play.

problems will arise in large amounts in young and old alike who use according to bodybuilders they know or what they read on the internet.

Education and knowledge of Anabolic Steroids is key prior to using.

That's why you have to take 6-8 pills (30-40mg) a day to get any results.

DBol is one of the worst steroids BECAUSE it is taken orally.  Injectibles are much safer because they do not damage the liver.

If you've ever been told by ANYONE that you can take a cycle of roids by themselves without seeing any side effects, you've been lied to.  You have to take medications such as Clomid and Nolvadex to combat the estrogenic side effects.
