Anyone trying to Lose 15-20 pounds by Halloween?

I have been messing around with this last leg of my weight loss journey for far too long. I'm really going to get serious about this last push and wondered if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to help motivate each other?

Here are my stats, too:

5'6" female

157

28.9% BF (would like to be 25%)

Goal is 140

Moderate Activity Daily (I'm a SAHM with 3 little ones who keep me hopping!)

40 min. cardio 3-4 times a week, 90 min cycling once a week, 30 min. strength 3-4 times a week

(edit: added links to weigh-in form)

Hi girls,

How's the day going? Mine's been pretty good. took the dogs for a 90 minute walk, started my second week of start to run and did some weight lifting. basicly I earned myself 600 kcal already today Laughing

My official weigh in day is saturday but I usually check in on mondays and wednesdays too.

I'm up for any challenges. I'm pretty competitive so it would be a great motivator!

Original Post by ohtobethinagain:

I'm walking 2 miles/day most days. Plan to up that to 3 miles/day as soon as I can increase my speed to 3mph. More than an hour on the treadmill and I start getting bored.

Stewmama - don't feel bad. My baby weight is 8 years old and in 3rd grade. LOL! She weighs 55 pounds, which is exactly the difference between what I weighed when getting pregnant and my all-time high (which actually came about a year AFTER she was born). 20 of that 55 is gone. YAY! 35 to go. I can no longer pick her up. How I was carrying around an extra 55 pounds at one time boggles the mind. I never thought of it as being that much until the moment I realized the extra weight was the same as her weight and I can't pick her up. Imagine carrying around an 8 year old 24/7. No wonder I stay tired.

That is such a great point.  I am down 27 pounds since my son was born and now he weighs 30 pounds and feels sooooo heavy!  It's hard to believe I had one of him attached to me all the time!  Wow!

I have a tough time keeping my exercise routines fresh, too.  My gym has a great child care room so that helps out tremendously.  My kids love going there and I get some much needed exercise and mommy time in.

Before I joined this gym, I would put the kids in the stroller and go for walks.  I let my older daughter bring her bubble machine, so that would help pass the time for them, plus I'd play my iPod through a mini speaker and we'd rock out and sing (what a sight for my neighbors -- LOL).  I rent exercise DVDs from the library from time to time, or swap with friends who are bored with their own collection as I get with mine.

Dancing with my kids is also a great way to get exercise and have fun with them.  They love it and it's an easy way to pass 20 min. of cardio!

I'm doing good so far today -- I still need to get my exercise in, though, so I'm off to pop a video in while the kids nap!

Keep on losing!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the advice!  I do have a front carrier for the baby so I know I could always stick her in that and walk around. I could also put my 3 year old in a stroller and see how that goes. That is a great idea. My school does have a gym so maybe I can somehow squeeze time in for that. As it is now I am in class from 2pm until 10pm pretty much straight through. I have a 1 hour break throughout the day but since I am breastfeeding my little one I was planning on finding a nice quiet place to pump. However, that shouldn't take an hour so I should be able to make it over to the gym... even if it is a short workout. anything is better than nothing right? Thank you so much for the great advice so far and I will be sure to try them both out. Please do add me to your friends list. Thanks again!Smile

Just wanted to bump and note that you all are good motivation already.  I was thinking to myself that I've got to work hard if I'm going to keep up with parents -- I know the four of us kept my parents in top form :)  Maybe a little less sane, but in good form no less LOL

So thank you for the motivation to walk a bit more than usual and do a little bike ride (2.8 miles of bike bliss).

Best of wishes in all of your pursuits today Smile

Hi Ladies

so I walked about 3 miles to get my car today... and then washed it... taking a breather from my hard work out yesterday even though I don't feel any muscle ache... Bob from Biggest Loser DVD power sculpt challenge kicks my ass! I tell you!

So I'm trying to focus on healthy and clean eating and being disciplined when the late night hour hits I get hungry and need to munch so I'm going to try to incorporate some healthy snacks... baby carrots / flax seed spicy multi grain tortilla chips... something like that...

Yesterday while I was working out I was trying to work with the Mind/Body connection while jumping rope (WINDRINRE - I LOVE JUMPING ROPE TOO!) I closed my eyes and tried to focus on the muscles being used... and I kept chanting my mantra to myself...

"I AM SO HAPPY AND GRATEFUL NOW THAT I WEIGH 120 POUNDS I AM SO HAPPY AND GRATEFUL NOW THAT I AM BACK TO MY NORMAL WEIGHT"

I'm going to continue my mantra anyone want to make one up and join me in doing this while working out? I really want to it to seep into my subconcious that I am a 120 pound girl again and I am ready to let the weight that I is holding onto me to go... it's stress weight and depression weight and I did it to myself... I let myself go in effort to punish myself for being in a bad relationship and allowing things to happen to me that I would have never accepted before... it's been 3 years and I'm ready to let go of that girl I have been hurting and feeding just to fill that hole that women tend to carry inside ourselves... SELF LOVE ' ... "I am so happy and grateful now that I love myself and my body honors me and I honor her"

Kiss xo ... everyone have a healthy day! p.s. Stewmama - did we decide when to do weigh ins?

xoxoxoox Soraya

Wow, that's a lot of walking to get to your car sorayazada!  I'm very impressed --  and this is your rest day?  Laughing  Nice work!  I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes to close their eyes and focuses on the feel of the jump!  I'm sure I look a little ridiculous to anyone passing by, but it's worth it!

I like your mantra, I'll have to try one while exercising :)  I haven't thought of one yet, but I'll keep trying to find one with deep meaning for me :)  Hm, perhaps a good quote?

Also, kudos to you for letting go and loving yourself :)  I still struggle with that from time to time, but am slowly improving.  Keep up the great work, you are inspiring Smile

thanks girly... I sent you a message in your inbox :)

Hay,

Looks like I fit this group (except being a guy), with my end goal only about 18lbs away. I am of smaller stature at  5'5" and 138lbs my goal is to be 120 or under. My current exercise schedule consists of some type of exercise (running, rowing, biking, etc.) every other day for 30min+. It seems that these last 10-15 are the most stubborn lbs and are just sticking here.

I am a really competitive person and wondering if anyone else would be up for a challenge? I would be willing to try and coordinate something if others are interested.

Welcome new faces!!  So glad you've joined our cause!

Jumping rope is such a great cardio workout -- I never do it though because I'm not very graceful Undecided -- maybe I'll start doing "no rope" jump rope during commercials when I'm watching tv in the evenings.  And congrats on the positive self-affirmations -- I try really hard to remind myself of how far I've come and how strong I feel with all of my exercising.  Sometimes I'll even flex a little to remind myself of my hard work- LOL!

I'm going to look into that BL DVD.  I can't wait for the next season to start -- that is always so inspirational!

Ok, so a challenge.  How about most total minutes of spontaneous exercise from 12 noon tomorrow until Sunday 12 noon.  By spontaneous I mean fillinf time with little bits of exercise and then add everything up -- if you walk around the block and it takes you one minute -- add that to your total -- if you lift the milk jug for bicep curls for one minute -- add that in.  If you do one minute of squats while you wait for your oatmel to heat up in the microwave -- that counts too!  The only thing that won't count is your typical workout routine (30 min on the treadmill).  Think of all the extra little minutes you can add into your days this week!

Good luck and keep on keeping on!

Can I join in????  This sonds like a good active group to join!

My stats are:

SW: 236 lbs in October '07

CW:  174 lbs

GW: 150 lbs

I want to lose that last 24 lbs by the end of October. That will be year of losing weight and changing my lifestyle.

I can't wait to be at my goal weight, but there are times I lose all motivation and just maintain! lol

Good luck everyone! :)

Welcome to the group!  Congrats on your success so far!  That's awesome!  I look forward to losing with you Laughing

Thank you! Sometimes I have to be reminded about how far I've come already when I get frustrated when I don't lose anything for a while.I'm just so close! I'm so excited to get to 150, I can't wait to see what size I'll be then! lol

I am in also. I have a 4 month old and a 3 year old and I really need to lose the weight I put on while pregnant and then some.

CW: 160

GW: 130

25 years old

I do own a treadmill but it is so boring to get on it. Does anyone have any tips or ideas on how I can get exercise in with 2 little ones? I would love to be able to work out for at least 1 hour straight everyday but I honestly don't ever have an hour straight to myself. I really do well with the buddy system however all of my friends are very overweight and only stick with a work out program for so long before they start to make excuses as to why they cant work out with me anymore... I am sick of it. So I am hoping that this sort of buddy system works the same way. I work part-time and go to school full time. I am home with my babies whenever I am not at school and between watching them and keeping the house clean while trying to study, I do have my hands full. This is a wonderful idea to do and I am definitely ready for a new approach! Thanks!

 Some of the gyms have a nursery or playgound area.  Maybe the little one will fall asleep on the way.

I'd like to join also.  I have lost 18 pounds since July 3, 2008.  I want to be a Oktoberfest beer wench for Halloween.

SW=183

CW=165

GW=145

Ultimate GW=125

I'm in for the challenge Laughing

You guys are all so motivating!  Here are my stats:

Female

SW (also CW) = 129

Height = 5'4"

GW = 115

Moderate activity level (run for 45 min 4X per week, also strength training for 25 min 4X per week)

I'm having a really hard time with my self-image right now.  This time last year I weighed about 120 lbs and I've managed to put 9 pounds since then, mostly this summer.  I chalk it up to vacation and eating out too much.  I'm really unhappy at my current size but I keep losing motivation and feeling depressed.  I definitely need to be held accountable!!

I'd like to join as well if I may...I'm in another weight loss group but it ends next week (and it was sloooow going for me). I need a group that's active and chatty on a daily basis as well!!

SW: 173

CW: 154.8

GW: 140...by Halloween would be fantastic!  Also, I'm 5'8", 24 y.o.

I weigh in on Thursdays or Fridays, that's when I've finally managed to get rid of all the water weight from the weekend. Do we have an official weigh-in day?

hi, well i just got back on my diet yesterday i am getting married in may 09 and need to drop some weight, i having really hard time not eating alot cuz im always hungry and i hate exercising, i figure if i do my elliptical machine 6 times a week for 30 minutes and stay between 1200-1400 (ill try for 1200 but its so hard!) calories a day i can hopefully drop some weight soon, i always give up if i dont see improvment right away, so any motivation would def help! i figure at 2-3 lbs a week i could look liek 10 lbs by halloween i know that would be a great start for me and once i start on the track and see results i should be able to stick with it, so the next few weeks will def be the hardest for me. Hopefully we can all motivate each other!

I think i would also like to weigh in on thrusday or fridays

Welcome, newcomers!  Just to give a quick role call, this is who I've got on my list -- if I've missed your name, let me know!

Stewmama (me), Slaffer, soraya, windrinre, kikilem, nayomi, anniebakers, octopusqueen, kcovert, le400, jkppt (Jen), kim79my, mambinki, berryblue, kcullop, ohtobethinagain, momoftwofunykids, missechelle, veryvegan, tink8, kimbrali

How's everyone doing on the Spontaneous Exercise Challenge?  I've logged 5 minutes today so far -- two of which involved a crazy decision to park at the back of the parking lot at the grocery store in the middle of Hurricane Fay! LOL  I earned my two minutes, but the rest of my minutes won't involve gale force winds if I can help it Laughing

I've found myself making some better eating decisions over the last couple of days -- skipping high calorie snack options and replacing them with fruits and veggies.  I was down 1 pound today at my weekely weigh-in here at home!  WooHoo!

Just to get it set and official, group weigh-in will be Fridays.  You can pick what time of day on Fridays, but try to report in by Friday evening.

Oh, and Missechelle -- love the costume idea!

I'm momof2funykds, by the way. :D  Weigh ins on Fridays are ok with me!

The Spontaneous Exercise challenge isn't for me right now. I have back and leg pain, and it's been really bad this past week. Just been laying around and not doing much. Going to the dr on Wednesday to see why it's worse.

I'm disabled but I exercise as much as I can. I was walking up to 4 -5 miles a day and WITH a cane. I belong to a gym and used the weight machines. But the last week I've done nothing. I'm so anxious to get back to walking again. I really miss it.
