Should I Just Stick With Cardio?

Quote  |  Reply
I had a quick question. I need to lose weight and I also want to be muscular. The problem I was having was, when I did weights, push ups, situps, ect. ect. it seemed like the scale went up. So I was just thinking about just sticking to runnig only. Will I drop weight faster by only using cardio?

no, you will drop weight faster doing both
Probably, but you'll lose both muscle and fat.  Especially if you are creating a caloric deficit.  The best way to maintain your lean muscle while burning fat is to incorporate weight-bearing exercises into your workout.

You mentioned nothing about your eating habits. I tell people to break it down this way - 50% is your diet, 25% is your weight lifting and 25% is your cardio. First don't watch the scale. Go by how your clothes fit you because muscle weighs more then fat and your weight may be high but you may actually have more lean body mass than fat. You shouldn't do only the running because that will drop weight but not give any type of definition to your muscles, and weight lifting can burn fat. Also, do you want to build muscle and bulk up or are you looking for tone and definition? To build muscle you want to do lower reps with higher weights, for toning you want to do higher reps with lighter weights. If you superset (go from one exercise to the next with a 60 second rest in between) you are lifting weights in a way that gives you a cardio workout also. Id also like to mention that weight lifting will be sculpting or building your muscles as you are doing cardio to lose, so as the weight comes off you will see results. It takes time and, again, what you eat is the biggest factor. Hope this helps.
