I just had to get this off my chest. There is this girl who I see at the gym a lot. A while back she was working out on the first row of elipticals where the santizer liquid bottles are. As i passed her to get a bottle to clean my machine i noticed she smelt like sweat. Thats no big deal, i mean shes working out so shes sweating. A couple of days ago I was on the eliptical and she came into the gym and got on the machine next to me. She smelt REALLY bad, i was gagging. I had to get off the machine to get away from her. I went to work out on the bikes behind the elipticals and everyone around her began to leave the area as.well I noticed her shirt was extreely dirty with, what im guessing, is sweat stains - her shirt was black and all along the top of her shoulders it had white cacky stuff on it. The next day I saw her again and her clothes were the same and in the same condition, she never washed it.

The gym has a sign that says clean clothes must be worn in order to work out. But I just dont understand how she doesnt realize her clothes are so dirty and how can she put that dirty clothes back on?

Anyone else have to deal with something like this?

BARF!!

almost threw up just reading that!  maybe her house smells like that too so she doesn't notice??  I don't know...  I have a hard time puttin the same socks back on after only taking them off for a few minutes.

That is foul!  My two gym pet peeves are stinky people and loud talking/cell phone usage.

Last week I was using a weight machine next to a rather heavy man and he was wearing a tank top and spandex pants.  Between the spandex and the stench, I couldn't help but stare with morbid fascination.  I really tried to force myself to think, "well, good for him for making an effort to get in shape (I myself am still a good 40 pounds over weight, after all)".  But it was GROSS.

Then, today, these two women came in and were using the eliptical machines on the complete opposite side of the gym.  For 40 minutes, all I heard was "Blah blah kids, blah blah thighs, blah blah stupid men, blah blah mini van".  Seriously?

(We should start a gym rant page.)

I don't mind the stench when people are working out and sweating, but when someone comes into the gym and hasn't even started their work out yet, then it bothers me a little bit. There is this older man that comes into the gym a lot when I am there and I swear he smells like old rotting cheese. There are several elliptical machines in my gym, but no matter what it seems like he ALWAYS has to get on the elliptical right next to me. The smell is sometimes too hard for me to handle and I seriously have to get off the machine and move somewhere else. I kinda feel bad about it because maybe some people can't help the way they smell, but it's still pretty difficult to be around them when it's that bad.
Sometimes I'd go to the gym on my way home from work last summer. I worked at a bakery whose specialty was ginger snaps, and I smelled overwhelmingly like ginger. At least it was during suppertime so very few people were there, and I made sure to stay away from others.

But I think ginger is easier to deal with than stinky unwashed gym clothes smell.
I would point the lady out to the staff.

Surely it is not up to you to take care of this situation by talking to her yourself. It is a communal environment and she should follow the rules like everyone else.

I hate saying this because I'm not that big into company policies and I'm expressing a bit of a double standard here.
