Stir-fry? Or alternatives...
Ok so yeah, here I am again. For those who have been on here for a while, I'm back after slipping up on my new lifestyle change...blah blah blah. I was dissapointed but whatever, I'm turning it back around. Well, on a good note, I still managed to get 20 lbs lost and kept off...so that's good.
Anywho...my doctor says I need to lower my bad cholesterol and raise my good cholesterol. She said by eating mre vegetables and exercising this will happen, but especially the veggies. And laying off fried food. Well that makes sense....
But I'm not a fan of veggies. Unless they are like stir-fried. Or something. Like from japanese restraunts? haha. I know, probably still not good for you after all the sauces, but surely there is some alternative that gives a similar taste...?
That's where you come in! haha. Any suggestions are nice =] My main problem is raw veggies. And actually, I know I'm way too picky, but I really only like green vegetables. Like some others, but few. So this stir fry would consist mostly of broccoli and cabbage. haha. But thanks!
I keep reading people saying stuff about stir fry and chicken broth...could someone give me this recipe? i can't seem to find it =[
there's absolutely nothing wrong with a little oil in a stirfry. extra virgin olive oil is probably the best choice, but any vegetable-based oil is fine.
adding a little (low-sodium) broth will add flavour, but then you're not frying so much as you're steaming, which is fine. your veggies won't be as crispy.
it's really important to get a variety of veggies, and colour is a great way to do that. what about red and yellow bell peppers? they're delicious raw or cooked, and are beautiful on the plate.
I use sesame oil and tamari sauce. I don't use very much oil. Only 1 tsp. for a giant plate of veggies. Snap peas, broccoli, celery, peppers, mushrooms, carrots, squash, and spinach all can go in. I put in egg whites for protien, and sometimes shirataki noodles.
thanks =] i had already went to the store by the time i read this, and i got soy sauce, chicken broth, corn starch, cabbage, broccoli, carrots, and an onion, and chicken. any specific directions on how to cook this haha? im only 18, and i have very little cooking experience...
congrats on losing 20 pounds & keeping it off! :D congrats on finding your way back to CC, too!
Actually for stir frying olive oil specially extra virgin one is not good, because it has very low smoking point. You want to use oils with high smoking point. An alternative to using oil is to start with stir fying some onions with a bit of cooking stock, then add stuff.
For stir frying you also need a wok. I got mine form here: http://www.wokshop.com/products_main.html
Ok so tips on cooking. The rule is add oil (or whatever) to hot wok. So let it hit up first. Be careful thought. If you use oil with low smoking point it can actually catch on fire. Add veggies first and just move them around to let them brown, but do not let them burn. Take them out and stir fry the chicken or whatnot. Put everything back in, poor in the stock and add stuff to make whatever sauce you are making. You can also buy premade sauces. Same thing as above, just instead of adding stock in the end stir fry everything with the pre-made sauce. Try googling stir fry recipes. There are a tons!

Get Frozen Asparagus, Frozen Green Beans, Frozen Spinach, Frozen Broccoli & Frozen Bell Peppers (there are green ones in there)... You can stir fry ALL of those together... with some sun-dried tomatoes (for the fat & olive oil & yumminess) and water chestnuts along with garlic, thyme, oregano, basil, onion, salt & pepper!
*All the mentioned veggies are GREEN & DELICIOUS! I make stir fries every night (or broil a whole bunch of veggies) & I never get sick of the stuff I make, so if you need more ideas, just let me know!
THANKS everyone! yall are amazing!
umneydurak-so are you saying use cooking stock instead of oil? what is cooking stock haha...like chicken stock? if that sounds dumb, please dont laugh =/
Yeah. Chicken, Beeft Stock/Broth.

I use olive oil to fry up veggies (and sometimes tofu or chickpeas) all the time. I just use a regular frying pan; nothing fancy.
I put a little oil in the pan, then add fresh garlic. I always start with garlic -- I love it!!
Then I add onions ... after that, it's a free-for-all. I love red peppers the most, but I also usually add green peppers and sometimes yellow or orange...then mushrooms. Sometimes a cherry tomato or two. A sliver of alvocado.
To give it more flavor, I add curry spice ... and a shot of hot pepper...and ginger and cinammon. Sometimes a tad of honey.
This is my fave. Hope it adds to your idea list.
